I remember when Runes were going to be tiered/have Ranks and be similar to gems
I remember having my snake/bat/pig follower scroll thing, picking up all my gold and then Blizz decided to remove it to make pickup radius more beneficial...
I remember when i used to see a lot more dfans mods/news guys/wiki people around these forums prerelease (Ophion, PhrozenDragon, Don_guilletine, ScyberDragon, Sixen etc) - these guys helped get me really excited for D3 everyday when I was but a lurker in these parts..

JuskiReign posted a message on Diablo III: I remember when...Hello all,Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
I just wanted to start a little game/discussion for the forums here, for those of us who have been playing D3 since its release last year. Please post a memory you have of Diablo III that is no longer in the game, whether it has been removed by a patch, changed, no longer viable, etc. Feel free to comment on the memory of the person before you, and please add your own! If you like, you can also add pictures/screenshots as well.
I'll go first.
Diablo III: I remember when... we had Invulnerable Minions as an elite affix.
Note: Please, nothing immature like I remember when the game was good, or something like that. The point of this is to reminisce about things that people may have forgotten about, or haven't had the opportunity to experience if they started playing Diablo 3 at a later date. This is not a "let's bash Diablo III" thread. Thanks! -

Bagstone posted a message on Why are you happy about the AH announcementPosted in: Diablo III General Discussion
Ha, good question. I am excited. I'm so excited that when I read the announcement on Tuesday I called all my friends to tell them the news. We were all as excited as hearing that Santa Claus was coming early and we'd get presents tomorrow. And yeah, I asked myself "why is that?" - because I was never an outspoken "AH hater". So, why? It's gonna be a long story, so here's the...
TL;DR: The auction house killed the spirit of the game for me (killing monsters to acquire loot), thus immensely reducing fun.
Long story:
I played Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 a lot, but never really competitive. We kind of played self-found, with occasional trading with friends (or no trading at all, as Diablo 1 was single player in the beginning). In Diablo 1, it was pretty easy to hit "max" and create a BiS character, as the caps weren't too high and reachable for everyone. Games were just simpler back in the days. In Diablo 2, I started offline, but moved to ladder eventually. The main reason were the low-level runewords, which made self-found much easier and much more fun. But the other reason was that after years of playing and having no progress, trainers and cheats are just too convenient. You're stuck at level 85 forever, you don't find any upgrades, and after 100 Baal runs without a single unique item it's too tempting to just create yourself a +5 skill charm to speed things up a bit. Of course, it doesn't stop there... so, moving to ladder made that impossible. There were no trainers/cheats, and duping would get your account banned. Which meant losing all progress, and no one would want that. However, even though I looked into trading, I dismissed it immediately as I realized that chances are high that I'd just get a duped high rune or so. I knew the implications: it could get me banned, but it would definitely spoil the fun for me, just like using a trainer in offline mode.
So, when Diablo 3 was announced, and I heard about the auction house, my first reaction was two-fold. At first I was like "I never traded in D2, so how will this change my game?". On the other hand, I perceived the offline mode as an advantage (and still do) - it was indeed effective to kill all dupes. The only dupes are rollback dupes, and since rollback items are BoA now, even this doesn't happen anymore. You can hate online mode as much as you want - but I like it, as it killed dupes and made trading an option for me. In addition to that, the auction house helped me to trade items without the need of becoming an expert in evaluating prices. Still, I didn't want to use it, but kept it in mind as a last resort.
Then Diablo 3 hit. And I wasn't there. Spend the entire summer in an internship - and the game I eagerly waited for for years was released such that I missed the first 3.5 months. My friends started playing and even saved up gear for me, but when I came back they were just too far away. They were clearing Inferno and I couldn't even stay alive. So... after a couple of days trying out different strategies (with the help of DiabloFans - eventually the reason for me to end my lurking and sign up), I borrowed some money from my friend and used the auction house. Oh boy. Just with a couple of clicks and some hundred thousand gold, I was able to compete with them. But just like in D2 with the offline cheats, it got out of hand: we all used the AH. Monster power was introduced, the uber event was introduced, and our goal was to kill ubers on MP10 (and with 1 wizard + 2 DHs, no credit card, it's a pain in the ass, it took us months). So, our characters became pretty powerful (well, 200-300k DPS was powerful for us, though pretty laughable for many forum members I guess), but we never found any upgrade ourselves. The 1.07 crafts gave us a bit of the feeling what it would be like to have something that you "earned yourself", and not just "bought off the shelf". And it also gave us a little bit of the feeling from D1/D2 that we missed in D3, despite it being an awesome game.
So, when RoS was announced we discussed going self-found. But we immediately realized that as soon as one of us became weak and would use the auction house, we all had to. And from our history we knew that none of us is as strong as maka or Indimix and able to stay away from the AH forever. I guess that's the main reason why I'm so rejoiced about the AH removal - we can finally go back to self-found and enjoy the game as we did its predecessors. Because in my opinion, besides the weak story everything has improved since D1/D2. And with the AH gone, this game can only become more awesome for me and my friends. -

Both Diablo 3 Auction Houses are shutting down. Details below.

With that in mind, we want to let everyone know that we've decided to remove the gold and real-money auction house system from Diablo III.
We feel that this move along with the Loot 2.0 system being developed concurrently with Reaper of Souls™ will result in a much more rewarding game experience for our players.
We're working out the details of how the auction house system will be shut down, but we wanted to share the news as soon as we made the decision in order to give everyone as much advance notice as possible. Please note that the shutdown will occur on March 18, 2014. We will keep everyone informed as we work through this process.
Josh Mosqueira and I wanted to provide everyone with a little more information behind this decision, so please have a look at the video, and stay tuned to this site for further updates in the months ahead.
Auction House Shutting Down FAQ

The gold and real-money auction houses have provided a convenient and secure system for trading, but it's also become increasingly clear that despite the benefits they provide, they ultimately undermine Diablo’s core gameplay. A big part of Diablo is the thrill of battling demons and finding epic loot. While buying epic loot in the auction houses might be more convenient, it doesn't feel anywhere near as heroic as plowing through a pack of fearsome-looking monsters and having them drop that one awesome item that seems like it was made for your character.
Q. Will this change affect both the gold and real-money auction house?
Yes. We will be shutting down both the gold and the real-money auction houses.
Q. When will the gold and real-money auction houses be removed from the game?
The gold and real-money auction houses will be shut down on Tuesday, March 18, 2014.
Q. Are the gold and real-money auction houses shutting down at the same time?
Yes. The gold and real-money auction houses will be shut down at the same time.
Q. Are the gold and real-money auction houses being removed for all gameplay regions?
Yes. The gold and real-money auction houses are being removed for all gameplay regions.
Q. Why aren’t the auction houses being removed sooner?
Since the gold and real-money auction houses receive a regular amount of daily activity, we wanted to inform everyone of this upcoming change as soon as we made the decision and give as much advance notice as soon as possible. Also, removing the auction houses from the game is no small endeavor, and there are many technical and gameplay-related questions we still need to answer before this change is implemented.
Q. Are there any plans to add the gold and real-money auction houses back into the game in the future?
No. We have no plans at this time to add either the gold or real-money auction house back into the game after they are removed.
Q. How will the removal of the gold and real-money auction houses work from a technical perspective (for example: What will happen to posted auctions, items or currency in the Completed tab, Battle.net Balance, etc.)?
We’re still working out all the details regarding how the auction houses will be shut down. We know these details are important, and we want to ensure that this transition goes as smoothly for everyone. We will be keeping everyone informed as we work through this process.
Q. How will I be able to trade with other players once the gold and real-money auction houses are shut down?
Once the gold and real-money auction houses have been shut down, players will still be able to trade with one another using the in-game Trade Window.
Q. How will the removal of the gold and real-money auction house affects changes planned for itemization in Reaper of Souls, specifically “Loot 2.0”?
One of the main goals behind Loot 2.0, which is being developed concurrently with Reaper of Souls, is to make playing the game the most rewarding path to getting items. That goal has not changed with this decision, and in fact was one of the big inspirations behind the removal of the auction houses. We’re still moving forward with all the changes previously revealed as part of Loot 2.0, but we’re also looking at additional improvements we can make that will help ensure that the loot hunt and trading experience in Diablo III is as satisfying as possible. -

Zero(pS) posted a message on Requiem For A Dream.Let's move onto the other recently problematic user, Xpire. Also spewing false info around.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
Way to lie to other users about it even. Too bad the post is saved in our database.Quote from Xpire
I Agree ras, But when It's not against any one nor was going for anyone that you just pointed out how much better diablo 2 and TQ did with their skills / passives you kinda wonder why It's considering as flaming.
Xpire was previously infracted for, I quote: "Only a retard like the current system". It wasn't a random comment, it was a directed commentary about previouS postS that he didn't agree with. Again, calling people retards (here we go again) _WILL NOT_ be tolerated around here.
I will CONTINUE to infract people who have that sort of attitude, as long as I'm a moderator here, whether they're defending or attacking the game.
Maybe you should listen to your own advice? Instead of calling others retards?Quote from Xpire
No, saying bad stuff about a game is "whining" or saying good stuff about it is "fanboyism". Sure, some stuff is whining and some stuff is fanboyism, but really... You need to take the two apart. When you add something that could be better then the current thing its feedback, not whining. (good things can also be feedback.) Whining is when you talk down on something with out have anything to add that would make it better. Fanboyism is blindly worshiping everything about the game(s)..
The second infraction was due to Publicly Discussing Moderation! (and he was clearly told about it) It's a basic rule in any online forum (read our rules, maybe?). You DO NOT discuss moderation acts taken against you in public threads. Firstly, it is almost always off-topic, and derails the thread; secondly, other users have absolutely nothing to do with that.
I'm ALWAYS open to discuss moderation via PMs, I have reviewed my position and actions multiple times because either I was outright wrong (as human beings sometimes are?) or the user step forward in a calm manner and explained himself and apologised for going a bit overboard. But NOT in someone else's thread, PERIOD.
You were CLEARLY explained about that Xpire, and you INSISTED in doing it again. TWICE!!!! In the same thread! How fucking hard is it to understand such a basic idea/rule? I don't want to live on this planet anymore
Same thing as the member BRX.
Almost every post in the past couple days/weeks has a comment on how whoever defends the game is a Blizzard shill/employee/advertiser, in a very sarcastic tone.
It adds nothing to any discussion, and only servers to provoke other users (with whom he disagrees). And he's done it AGAIN in this thread.
I haven't done anything so far. But now that the pattern has been shown, I will not let him keep poking others with that sort of trollish commentary hidden in his posts. If nothing is done, we might be getting 500+ posts from him saying the same crap, over and over and over again. -

Zero(pS) posted a message on Requiem For A Dream.Left for a couple days for a business trip, come back to see this . For crying out loud, how hard is it to read and understand the most basic forum rules?Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
AIRING THE DIRTY LAUNDRY like this isn't standard, not do I like doing it, but I feel like for the sake of clarity to other members/readers, it's gonna be necessary this time (specially after all the LIES that have been spread).
First and last time I'm gonna talk about this, because some users seem to have a very ignorant view on this particular subject. (and if you wanna continue this discussion, do it through PMs, but NOT in this thread!)
Yes, Shad3slayer's post got deleted. It started with a very clear "GTFO Cancer" (and went downhill from there). How civil and polite is that? Blatant, direct flaming like that will notbe tolerated, as long as I am a moderator here and keep true to my oath of protecting the integrity the Diablofans forums. For as long as I can, I will not let it dwindle into a mess of trolls and haters, venting frustration and negativity on others every single day, instead of a place where people can calmly discuss the game. There are other forums who don't mind that.Quote from Bandyto
Besides that, I have to agree with you that mods sometimes overreact. This is very pathetic. If the mods are so strict, they should have deleted the initial post instead.
His other post was clearly directed at another member (who called him out on breaking the forum rules), by mocking that member with his own words, and flaming him. Again, that trollish crap will not be tolerated here.
Ruksak's initial post wasn't directed at anyone (except maybe shaggy, but I can't really stop them from going at each other, believe me I tried). It isn't an attempt to troll people or bait them into an argument (which is what trolling is), it's just an honest opinion of an old and dedicated member, with a very valid frustration on some attitudes by the game developer. That is NOT against the rules. Ruksak was infracted a couple dozen times (almost all of them by me), but this particular post/thread does NOT directly and exclusively break any rules.
Just because you don't see infractions, it doesn't mean they're not there. Again, I don't usually do this. But I feel like I need to vent it and go out of line this time... Grow a fucking brain?!?!Quote from Shad3slayer
Also, the mods are only strict to people with different opinions than them, obviously. I've seen many instances were people are VERY rude/ name calling towards people who are unhappy with the game/ voice their dissatisfaction, yet I've never seen those moderated.
You really think I can be strict to people with different opinions than me for almost 2 years, and just get away with it? I'm the fucking minority, bro!!! Almost nobody thinks the game is good enough, everyone complains!!! Me and a couple forum members are the only ones who actually speak up their minds and defend the game, even with the past hundreds/thousands of posts against it. I'm not gonna apologise for liking the game, speaking up my mind in a civil manner, nor for enforcing the forum rules. Sorry...
I have infracted dozens of users for defending the game in an overly aggressive, sarcastic or trollish tone. Some of them present in this particular thread (want me to PM you their infracted posts?). Know your facts before spewing false shit about someone you don't know.
... and the rest of the post was so polite, uh? Let's see some quotes >>>> "learn to read" .... "so pathetic" .... "but yeah, you're so smart"... "acting big" ... "say something smart for once" ...Quote from Shad3slayer
Yeah the reason it got deleted was it had a kind of offensive part that consisted of 2 words >.>
Stop pretending to be the poor little fella being wronged by the mean evil mod. You're nothing but a prick, who really only uses your alledged superior intellect when it suits you.
Or you could have not written all that crap in the first place? My work here isn't to fix the shitty posts that break the rules.Could have just edited them out (the mod I mean).
Did you get infracted for contradicting me? NO! Even though your post was extremely aggressive towards my opinion, specially when I called you out on what were outright false facts. But I didn't care, I backed off. I don't usually feed trolls.
No, you got infracted for breaking the forum rules. You got warned, did it again. As long as you can't understand the basic forum rules, I'm gonna keep infracting you, because that's what I'm here to do. -

D2 was much simpler to develop. Game development costs increased exponentially in the last years. The "guest monsters" in A5 alone must have saved a lot of costs on sprites. Also, the RMAH somewhat restraints the possibility of doing whatever ones likes, as there is money behind.Quote from Shad3slayer
It's true that 1.07 was quite a few patches + LoD. The difference is LoD was ALREADY OUT a year and a half after D2 release. Back when Blizzard was a way smaller company with much more limited resources and personnel.
Right, because Tristram for D2 ubers wasn't recycled.Quote from Shad3slayer
Now we got some half assed first aid fix atttempts (ubers - recycled maps with recycled enemies giving a useless reward, whoopdedoo),
Errr... everyone because dupes totally messed up with the economy. You found a Windforce? Gratz, except that those bots are selling them by dozens! Heck, D2 economy was referred by some people as "jokeonomy". Not too hard to figure out why.Quote from Shad3slayer
Duped stuff in D2. Exactly, who cares?
Sure, and when I buy stuff IRL, I don't care if it was stolen? Is it supposed to be funny?Quote from Shad3slayer
If I MF, find stuff, trade it for what I want, I don't care if it's duped or not.
Listening to you, it's like uniques rained all over the place. Well, they didn't. I played for 4 years (even made it to the hardcore ladder and stuff) and I can literally count the number Occys/Arachs/Shakos on the fingers of one hand. Highest rune I saw was an Ist.Quote from Shad3slayer
Also about sitting in channel. 1) it was fun as you spoke to someone all the time, bartered, talked via /f m (I still can't believe this is not in Diablo 3) 2) you could always offer a good deal and trade instantly if you cba "wasting time looking for a good deal". When I wanted my first Tal Armor in any ladder, I'd MF for a couple days, find a few Arach's/ Shakos/ Occys/ runes and stuff and offer more than the worth of Tal armor, I'd get it instantly, then I'd continue MFing and getting better and better stuff...
I won't even mention the fact that chatting in /f m while playing was plain dangerous for me.
I don't buy gold, yet I'm progressing quite fine. Sure, I won't be farming MP10 with my gear, but I'm doing MP7 and I'm pretty happy with that. It's just that - again - D2 was tuned much lower. Why? Because it is a single player game, basically. Which is supposed to be playable offline, with no trade. So of course, once you get access to some decent gear, you just mow stuff down. In 1.09 and before, it went all they way up to solo-8.Quote from Shad3slayer
you know, constant upgrades, constant buying and selling. Just the opposite of Diablo 3 where you buy good stuff for a couple of million that you pick from the ground (as you rarely get anything sellable) and then you can't get anymore upgrades unless you buy gold.
How is D2 leveling different from D3 one? They're both boring after a couple of times. Actually, D2 was worse because if you got your main skills at lvl 24 or 30, you had to resort on boring and painful leveling. Same deal if you're a no-energy class (which for HC, was all classes). If anything, D3 leveling is more fun (with the exception of closed areas for final bosses - which IS a gigantic pain in the booty, I'll agree).Quote from Shad3slayer
Ladder. Yes, good point. Ladder is a big part of what makes D2 so long lasting. Though I'm happy we don't have it in D3 due to the extremely boring lvling process I already mentioned in one of my previous posts (and I note no one disagreed on that :P).
Hmmm, why didn't I get those tons of stuff, I wonder?Quote from Shad3slayer
What would you get by MFing? Tons of stuff. I'd go as far as to say you get SOMETHING sellable EACH or very nearly each run. You can get Runes (Pul+)
"Making alts" makes a huge time sink, which runs contrary to today's gamer's profile. Today's average gamer won't do that, he will rather leave and play another game whose editor is not as clueless.Quote from Shad3slayer
I know respec was released with 1.11. Still, I think it wasnt a neccessary addition to Diablo 2. Its system actually stimulated making alts
Holy fire is 1.09, it was all but eliminated in 1.10. Zealot was marginal, especially in HC.Quote from Shad3slayer
Pala - Hammerdin (you are correct about it being the most common at least), Zealot, Holy Fire Chipadin
PS got the axe in 1.10, shadow as well. The HUGE majority of assassins in 1.10 ran either DS/LS or a hybrid with Dragon Talon.Quote from Shad3slayer
Assassin - Shadow, Trapsin, Phoenix Strike
The huge majority ran the cookie-cutter Lightning or the Burrito Cannon with MS.Quote from Shad3slayer
Amazon - Light Javazon, Poison Javazon, Bowazon, Spearazon (though much less common)
How can you list Bone Spear and Bone Spirit separately, as the synergize each other in 1.10.Quote from Shad3slayer
Necro - Summoner. Bone Spear. Bone Spirit. Poison. All about equally played.
Necro is either Summon or Bone. Some motivated guys run poison nova but not much.
Elemental was crap in 1.09, and half of the tree is still useless in 1.10. WW/WB are cool, that's for sure. But hey, I thought the class had 3 trees?Quote from Shad3slayer
Druid - Elemental/ Werewolf/ Werebear.
If anything, patch 1.10 gutted the build diversity much more than D3. Which is expected - builds requiring 60 or 80 points into a skill + synergies can only be extreme. But somehow, people did not complain about it. Also, again, you can have diverse builds in Diablo 3. Especially on very low MPs, because that's how complicated D2 was once you got some gear. So sure, you can have just about any skill and it will work. It's just that the higher the obstacle is, the less builds remain. And in D2, once the patch 1.10 buffed the mobs and synergies were introduced, the build diversity plummeted dramatically as well.
And a lot of crap legendaries and sets. Let's take the bows: who used anything else than WF or Burrito? Maybe some WWS here and there too. Everything else (especially low levels)? Utter garbage.Quote from Shad3slayer
D2 had so many useful legendaries/ sets.
Same thing for e.g. crossbows. Oh yeah, and it totally makes sense that you use a lvl 42 xbow at level 90+. And yeah, instead of CC/Crit dmg/AS, we had +X to all skills and resists. Big difference. -

Grafikm_fr posted a message on Requiem For A Dream.Posted in: Diablo III General Discussion
Yeah except 1.07 is already Diablo 2 classic + LOD + 6 patches. You just don't know how crappy it was prior to that (like, let's say, in 1.04 where there was this wonderful bow bug that took months to get fixed).Quote from Shad3slayerFYI I played Diablo 2 since 1.07 and still do to this day. Just so we know where we stand. From some of your points it seems to me that you didn't play Diablo 2 online AT ALL
Yeah, except most of that stuff was duped. But hey who cares.Quote from Shad3slayerDiablo 2 had THE best economy system of any online game - a Barter based system with values only serving as basic guidelines. Prices of any item are well known (if you spend any time trading) in High Runes/ Ists/ SoJs, but you can still get good deals either way (buy low, sell high, just like D3 flipping) but it actually involves human contact and isn't just Open AH -> enter stats -> Click Buyout.
Also, the big problem with bartering is that it forces you to spend hours in trade channels instead of - you know - actually playing the game.
The main reason D2 had a more stable economy was the ladder. End of story. D3 doesn't have a ladder (which is both good and bad, though I'm happy I don't have to go through the pain of leveling every 6 months). Since no items are taken out of the system, yeah it is slightly less stable. Hopefully, BOA-ing items with the mystic will correct that.Quote from Shad3slayer
This is a good thing however as it lead to D2 economy obviously being far better and more stable than D3 one, even with the game being 13 years older.
And what would I get? That's right, uniques that for most part are not worth a damn. Like woohoo, I get my 1256th steelclash, my 785th maul and the 95th WWS. Woohoo. Oh wait, those aren't worth a damn.Quote from Shad3slayer
Also you could just magic find and play in any part of Hell and nearly guaranteed get stuff to sell every now and then.
Yeah, an no one never ever bought stuff online in D2? Like ever? But of course, all those enigmas were 100% legit and not store-bought at all. /sarcasmQuote from Shad3slayer
There's a reason why 100% of rich D3 players are either Flippers or Dual Visa wielders. (This was all before d2jsp took over and D2 had an actual economy in-game - I can see how someone wouldn't like d2jsp, though it has its merits)
Yeah, and it only took patch 1.11 to add it. Whoop-dee-doo. Check the calendar and look when it was released.Quote from Shad3slayerLet's get the obvious right out of the way: D2 has a respec system (again obvious you haven't played it in a long time/ ever).
And it was the same thing in D2. Most pallies ran hammerdins, most sorcs ran with FO/FB (with an occasional lighning) and so on.Quote from Shad3slayer
Diablo 3 skills are unbalanced. Every class has 1-2 viable builds and everything else is used than less than 1% of the population.
Maybe the game had slightly more diversity, but you wanna know why? Because it was undertuned as heck. If you got some half decent (duped) gear, the chance of getting killed was closed to zero. Like, if Inferno had only MP0 (at its current level), you would have a bajillion of builds as well. Luckily, you have 11 sub-levels. - To post a comment, please login or register a new account.
