Another update: I found a stormshield. Still haven't found any akhans or a FotF or any other major end game weapon. HOWEVER, I have found that swapping in the +wrath/sec passives and +wrath/block rune: I was able to get rid of my wrath generator. Even at 50% block, as long as density is good, the wrath spending is pretty much non-stop. My current profile build has combust on it cause I went up against a boss before logging out, but I swap inhttp://us.battle.net/d3/en/calculator/crusader#eQlidf!caUS!aZZaaYwith the burning wrath. Of course, my sader is still inefficient, but I am not stressing out in T4 with diamonds equipped. Takes a bit to kill some elites, but works great with my group.
A buddy and I decided to try grinding T4 today and tried an Act 1 adventure run. We both died a number of times. Thankfully, neither of us got irritated. We kept moving slowly enough that we could anticipate what attributes the elites had before we took them on. My anti-arcane ammy really helped out tonight, as nearly every elite had arcane... =)
We did a lot better than I was expecting, and as a gear check, we decided to take on the Butcher as well. I died after he fell below 25% health due to unlucky timing on pots and health pools, but he finally downed him after a while.
After seeing how much more XP and gold we were getting, we may continue to take the pain on and grind away. And though my fire based build may not be as efficient as the HF/holy build, I haven't been lucky enough to find any Akkhan's pieces yet, the Maximus is the best weapon I have found. And the fire-based build I am using fits my stand still and wham on everything play style. lol.
Oh, and we happen to have an understanding where he focuses mostly on single target burn, while I melt the groups with AoE. For boss fights only, do I swap out hammers for combust.

I have not really paid any attention to how much damage is coming off of Slash/Carve, but I am currently grinding T3. I say "grinding" because I am using health pots more often than usual. I barely need them in T2 unless I get caught by a jailer+freezing+arcane+plagued... you get the idea.
Maximus and my bracers give me a 34% bonus damage to fire skills, so I changed it over to my current fire dmg build. This is the first time that I have come across items that have convinced me to change my build. I thought of using the steed for my ohcrap button, and I might try it for a bit... but right now, the falling sword nicely smashes low health mobs and I can always fall onto a health globe as needed. And I found that hitting condemn/vacuum and then falling sword right before it goes off is a lovely combo for burst dmg.
The maximus demon tends to get a lot of agro in T3 and dies easily against elites, but I was able to take down Odeg without dying.
