We should be starting to see some really leading things from Blizzard in about 2 weeks if we're going to get an announcement. I am positive that if they aren't going to do a countdown then they will surely announce a forthcoming announcement.
My bet is either Friday the 20th or Monday the 23rd of June.

With an announcement for SC2 I do bet a larger number of people may have bought copies to revisit the game with all the hype and excitement for number 2.

I remember seeing the Diablo I engine (prototype version of the game) on a Video game tv show about a year before it was released, I was hooked, Got the game first day it was for sale, and beat it in a matter of hours of non-stop play. =)

I spent two weeks savouring my first playing experience of Diablo which means I got more fun out of it. -

They really built up the announcement for Starcraft 2 though. They build up the WoW expansions too. I can't think of a game they haven't tried to generate some hype before hand. I mean, Blizzard haven't even said they are going to announce anything new at Blizzcon; the nearest we have is a beta key to an "unannounced game".
We all know D3 is coming one day, just nothing specifically points to Blizzcon. Other than a great deal of hope.

It is made up based on a blurb from the Sin Wars is my understanding. There is absolutely no evidence that Diablo 3 is going to be an MMO or that they plan on making a Diablo MMO.
The fact that they are totally revamping battlenet suggests to me that Diablo 3 would be a Battlenet game.

As far as visual goes I hope they go for full 3D camera panning, with a similar but more extensive point and click interface. being able to swivel the camera just makes a world feel so much more real.

Hmm, two conflicting information leaks from Blizzard (see http://www.diablo3.com/forums/showthread.php?t=3989 ).
Only one can be right and hopefully will find out soon enough. I'm backing the non-MMO version

The split in development time doesn't seem to gel with blizzard's admission of 3 separate teams. Maybe some worked across teams. The rest of it seems sensible and logical and not really anything we don't know, except I feel strangely comforted by the part about no "world of" even if it is speculation.

This is pretty much the entire point. Blizzard normally telegraph their announcements in some way, they haven't done it at all for Blizzcon other than mention they had a third team on an unannounced project.
They made a big thing of the SC2 announcement.

But this could be just a draft and they wouldn't say secret announcement there anyway.
