So, after getting into the beta (THANKS YOU Diablo Fans) I immediately set to work on the Witch Doctor. And was actually surprised with the class. I found the pets a bit, well boring. I think it was mostly because of the lack of skill slots until later on, but I was just finding it too easy with them, and didn't have enough to do to keep me interested.
After realizing the issue, I took out the dogs, and started to have a blast. I definately see what people mean about the WD being weapon based, I noticed a major difference in damage with just a little bit of a weapon upgrade. Overall, I'm no longer too sure that the WD will be my main class. I had an idea for a build that allowed me to have dogs without using a skill slow for it, but I'll hae to wait til release until I'll know if it will work out very well. All in all though I found the class enjoyable, and am really looking forward to release to test the class out fully.
The biggest surprise I had was just how powerful Grasp turned out to be, I had run the numbers, and seen it's potential, but it's a monster of a skill, but it remains to be seen if that will still be the case in later difficulties.
So what about the rest of you? What was your biggest surprise when playing the WD?

my biggest surprise was also the power of grasp of the dead and its my favorite ability. considering how great it is now and with the crimson rune it can TRIPPLE the dmg over time so its definitely going to pwn even at higher difficulties.
also it was boring until i got to lvl 12 and unlocked all 4 slots in the beta. using 4 different skills made it infinitely more fun. also surprised on how powerful firebats was and how cheap it was to cast.
he will definitely be my main for his insane defensive power to farm EZ mode for my alts

"once the pretty hardcore gamers we had testing inferno found it fairly difficult, we then we doubled it" -trolololol jay wilson
Being too easy on the lowest difficulty isn't a bad thing. If you were having trouble on normal, imagine stepping into hard.
But, you can always change skills. Just ditch pets for the easier difficulties and pull them out when you start to have trouble. It might also be more fun once you get access to sacrifice, so that's something to keep in mind.
Many of the WD off hand items help to offset the dps differentials of the two handers, in addition to providing useful resource options such as mana regen, making them under most circumstances the better option.
