Ok see I thought there was going to be designated miners, but if it's every person for themselves then that works. How many mines are we shooting for? I think 4 will be a good number.
Ideally I think we should have one big mine at the bottom for diamond and lava/obsidian, basically what I've thrown up, and this mine would pretty much span the entire bottom under the city eventually, with new shafts possible to add as transportation gets too cumbersome. So simialr shafts could be added at any point to the same grid.
And then of course there can be all sorts of strip mines everywhere else if necessary.

Regarding mining and "ownership" of precious materials... since everyone is going to have their own space to get creative, I imagine some people will need precious materials. What will be definitions of entitlement as far as those things go (diamonds, redstone, gold, etc) from the community mine?
Well I know I'll be dumping all the redstone I find in a community chest since I don't use it, but do you think we'll have a problem with this? If we have a community mine, isn't just that you can keep whatever you mine their yourself, but if you don't need it, you make it available to the rest of the community? After all you did mine it yourself.

Also, in terms of personal housing, we are going to stick with something like a 20x20 plan for a personal area inside of the city right? Obviously people will want to build huge personal castles and stuff, but that should be done a little ways of yes?

I voted for Mrtnmine because I think it's more efficient regarding spacing, leaving more room for expansion of the city, and making it easier to close off with walls. I don't really like the idea of everything being seperated by some space, a real city would not have gaps in it..
I didn't think that would actually be spaces, but that they were just separated by white in the image for clarity's sake. Am I or Macros right Scyber?

I'm wondering why there are twin mines next to each other. I can understand having several shafts in different areas of the town, but right next to each other? If we want effective mining that seems kind of useless to me.
So long as we can build walls around scybers design, I'm all for that as well
