That being said, yes I do still play this game, how could I not, I love this game, especially BGII (with TOB installed), Jon Irenicus is one of my favourite villians of all time, and his voice (provided by David Warner) is amazing. I love doing all the side quests (or almost all of them, there is what 400 of them, and some can only be accessable based on class/race/alignment), especially the larger more involved ones, Cult of the Eyeless, The Shade Lord, Firkraaq (that bastard), the skinner murders, oh and Kangaxx.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
THAC0 is an acronym for "To Hit Armor Class 0". This is the number a character, NPC or monster needs to attack an Armor Class 0 target successfully
For example, a 3rd Level FIghter has a THAC0 of 18. He is attacking a Hobgoblin with an AC of 5. THe AC of the Goblin is subtracted from the THAC0, giving a "to hit" number of 13, if the fighter rolls a 13 or higher on a 20 sided die, he hits successfully and does damage.
right so it seems i was correct, uh somewhat, subtracting -11 would be the same as adding it, and 7 + 11 is 18, that would get you bashed, and a mage in -11 armor class doesnt get bashed by much.
unless it subtracts when the armor class is positve, like in the hobgoblin example, and adds the armor class when the armor class is negative, like in my example. yeh that must be it.

BGII uses second edition rules. in which, the lower your armor class the better.
6 Elf Fighter/Mage,
multiclasses mages can wear elven chainmail, and no penalties for wearing armor, so you can have a mage with an armor class of -11, my tanks hardly ever have an armor class that good.
SO how would it compare? How do you determine a hit? In ver. 3.5, you roll a d20, add any attack bonus (magic weapons, feats, base attack bonus etc.) and compare it against the enemies AC. If you get above it, you land the hit. How does it work in BGII?
if you need to roll a 7 to hit, and you try to attack someone with armor class -11, i think it adds the armor class to your roll 7 + -11 therefore 7 - 11 = -4, you cant get that on a D20 so you miss. also you'd miss if you got a natural 1, so anything less than that must also be a miss.
not really sure, alls i knows is, a mage with that armor class does very well, only the really powerful stuff seem to hit him, and my tanks usually distract them, so my mage can rock the big spells.

sure there are games closer to Diablo than Baldur's Gate, (the title does say somewhat, it didnt say it was a clone), but once you get over your intital noob status, its a pretty fun game, like Diablo.
I often switch between the two series, not that im saying they in any way accompany each other, as they differ hugely, but the BG series, esp BGII is still a really good game, once you get part the inital stages.
medieval fantasy setting, awesome isometric view (well sorta), great story and characters, lots of items to use (though there are restrictions), replayability, longivity, it is by no means a short game, NPCs are for the most part, not emotionless zombies following you round like the mercs in Diablo, great quests (there are a few fex-ed ones, but they usually get you an awesome reward), you can mod it should you get bored. gotta love that.

1 Half Orc Fighter/Cleric,
so i can do the multiple stronghold glitch, only works with mutliclassed Fighters, and i sick of being the only one left in my party and i can revive anyone
2 Human Paladin,
someone needs to use Carsomyr +5, and only a Paladin can do that
3 Half Orc Berserker,
i need another good pure class tank, and with H/O's having 19 STR and 19 Con, well there you go.
4 Half Elf Cleric/Ranger,
uses both cleric and druid spells, plus racial enemy, and other ranger bonuses.
5 Halfling Thief,
disarm traps, backstab, hide in shadows to scope out the area ahead
6 Elf Fighter/Mage,
multiclasses mages can wear elven chainmail, and no penalties for wearing armor, so you can have a mage with an armor class of -11, my tanks hardly ever have an armor class that good.
basic party set up for me is 1) Me 2)Paladin 3) Tank 4) Healer 5) Thief 6)Mage.
1 heavy hitter/divine caster, 2 heavy hitters, 1 back up hitter/healer/divine caster 1 thief 1 arcane caster
its a pretty good party.
ideally you want at least 1 divine and 1 arcane caster. 2 and 2 is better.
unless you want to powergame then you can bust out Kensai/mage, and well cleric ranger is kind of a powergame class too, but its been ages so ive forgotten how.
Recognized some of the pics, why don't you have any form Throne of Baal?
i do, check the 7th pic again
and its Bhaal, with an "h"

Is Baldur's Gate II, called Shadow's of Amn? cuz i got a copy of it. I never knew you could play online with it, err at least i couldn't figure it out.
yes it does, from the menu screen you go to multiplayer select the tcp/ip connection then go to join game and type in the host address of the host player you wish to play with. but if that doesnt work you need to download the hamachi virtual private network, open it up before you start up BG2 then type in the hamachi address it will assign to the host instead of his regular IP address.
you can get hamchi here http://www.hamachi.cc/, once downloaded you will need to join the same VPN as the host.
I've played Icewind Dale I and II, and they were tight (fighters pwn). And I believe these came out after BG 1 and 2? Do BG 1and 2 have that THAC0? Cuz that shit is gay
yes it does, but i hardly notice sometimes you hit some times you dont, its seems ok on larger or powerful targets, but when you miss hitting a goblin then it sucks

But I still remember those dragon fights. In diablo, you get stunned for a few seconds and hope you don't die, while the first time I fough The Shadow Dragon (Thaxss'syllia or whatever it's name is :P) all my characters just ran around being charmed, paralyzed, terrified, confused and everything else, but I still managed to win. Ah memories
yes i too recall my first battle with a dragon, charging blindly on as Minsc would often say didnt often work, getting flung back across the room, but overall i would have to say top 5 RPG series of all time for me. I find a lot of aspects of this series could be implmented effectively into the diablo series, and i have hinted at this thru out my master list/s

yes there are some rather big differences invovling game mechanics, and there are a few systems that arent in diablo (some of which should be), but it is still a very good game, a good accompaniment to diablo, if you havent played i recommend it.
if you turn gore on BG can be pretty bloody, and there isnt a lot of reaction tests thats more neverwinter nights, with failing your persuasion tests, and i have successful solo'd a monk in BG, (but in recent time have failed to duplicate that run thru) i was hacking a path of destruction were ever i went.
but i totally agree with you, it is the best RPG ever made, romance, betrayal, murder, comic relief, conflict, stolen souls, a total badass villian, gambling, alcohol, loose woman, demons, corrupt officals, dragons, character customization, lots of characters to play with, swords and sorcery, arcane spells, free to play online, longivity and replayability (ive have it almost as much as ive had d1 and i got d1 in 96), NPCs who adventure with you arent complete muppets, lots of side quests, lots of storyline quests, who doesnt want all that?
and you can play BG hack n slash style, well mostly, its gets a little hard if you go round killing everbody/thing you see.

neverwinter nights came out after BG, so NWN is similar to BG, but i get your point.
but a Isometric view, great story, good charcters, lots of item combinations, demons, brilliant scenery, Hell, open spaces, labyrinths, caves, cathedrals, undead, golems, awesome spells, sounds like diablo to me.
