I do agree that it perhaps reinforced WWI being a key date for the Diablo franchise. It wasn't a complete loss. I just wasn't feelin it I guess.
Well it all depends in surrounding circumstances, most particularly how much hype is generated. Regardless of whether it was right or wrong, the sheer amount of it affects anyones expectaions.
PlugY for Diablo II allows you to reset skills and stats, transfer items between characters in singleplayer, obtain all ladder runewords and do all Uberquests while offline. It is the only way to do all of the above. Please use it.

It sort of just confirms what most people predicted in the first place. I don't know, it was slightly over hyped with the count down. We've already been told other diablo domains were targeted by Blizzard. It's not really refreshing news, just a reinforcement. We've all always known Diablo is not a neglected child.
However there's a key difference in this particular matter. This domain name had an active and quite large community that was patiently waiting for a game which there had been no announcement for. Blizzard showed us great respect by handling this a good as it could possibly have been handled. And they most likely (speculation here) waited with it for as long as they could before taking over it because now Diablo 3 is close to announcement.
