Well, from what I've seen Lost Ark seems to be an MMO...
And quite frankly, so far I'm not really that impressed by it.
You also have "Lost Eternal" coming out.
A D2 remake woudnt sell big. It only attracts the old school players who played Diablo before.
Honestly even a remake would look like crap. The game is freaking old. Making a new game or an expansion of D3 would be so much better in general.
Better for the company and gamers.
FWIW, I do not think the HD remake is going to be just taking a 780-620 resolution and cleaning the edges. It will likely be a max resolution recreation of the product, even if simply put into the D3 engine, that is a major upgrade of graphics.
In fact, I would be willing to go a step further and notice that at Gamescom the art rendering was the wanderer in the D3 graphics engine. Could be speculation, but I think there is more to it!
BUT I SWEAR TO GOD THAT IT BETTER BE MORE THAN JUST A D2HD REMAKE!!!!
Well there used to be 8 job postings for Diablo on the Blizzard site, Now after Gamescom there are only 5. Maybe crunch mode for Blizzcon? We can hope.
Those 5 are in addition to the 13 people they have already hired since last year May (2015).
They clearly have something going on in the Diablo Universe, aside from speculating, we really have no clue other than "something"
I really don't know if there is really room in the world for more MMORPGs than WoW. So many people have tried, and so many MMORPGs have failed. Even WoW has less than half the playerbase it had at its peak.
I certainly wouldn't be the one sticking my neck out in a games company to push out another MMORPG.
Some say they failed, but failed on what? Comparative analysis? WELL OF COURSE, nothing compares to WoW. But when you do cost analysis almost every single one of these MMO's have actually been ultra successful and all of which still have a very strong dedicated playerbase.
That being said, if Diablo does go the MMORPG route (which they will not) I would go the route of free to play with micro-transactions. Nothing in micro transactions that give you a strong competitive advantage, but something more cosmetic and QoL.
I think I have mentioned this to you before, but I think they will look more into a hybrid MMOARPG, the Action part of the genre is ESSENTIAL for Diablo to succeed. Adding dedicated towns for trading, as well as reputations and other MMO elements would be massive for a game like Diablo, but I would not make it a completely open world that we all run around and kill stuff on, that seems to much like Runescape and the plethora of gimmicks that are coming out in that ilk (ala lost ark, albion etc....)
Instead, the new rendition of Diablo should still have zones that only a party of 4 (maybe 5?) can enter into at max. Still having that seclusive/private feel to the game imo is also ESSENTIAL for Diablo.
Season 7 i literally was fully geared and most of my items were perfect for their slots in two days. Also lvl 600 paragon on day 3. That to me is not diablo. I want it to take months on end to get to 99. and i want to break my key board because i die at level 98 and lose a fat chunk of exp. I WANNA TRY AND TRADE SCAM PEOPLE I WANT SAY HEY SEXY IM A CHICK GIVE ME YO SHIT I WANT D2 BACK. : ) plz? Thanks. K bye.
I want the whole losing xp thing to be a part of dying in Softcore, would really penalize people for only regarding one aspect of character creation.
Regarding no player trading, removing the gold ah was just dumb, but having the rmah was even more moronic. There fix for that issue was doing two wrong things and praying it became a positive, which it did not, so to fix it they greatly increased drop rates. Yet that was a third wrong, really compounding the problem.
In the end, I think Blizzard as a whole is learning (FINALLY) from their past mistakes, and I look forward to what the future holds for Diablo!!!
Though this might be true, my expectations are that we get 2 or 3 more large content patches likely due to them canceling/scrapping Xpac 2 in order to put more resources in their "New Diablo universe project".
That is what simply makes the most sense. I doubt they design D3 specific features and never implement them into the game. I for one would love a runeward system, an ability over paragon system, and difficulty that is not simply tied to Torment but actual playstyle. I feel all of these are staples of the Diablo universe, and were all part of a D3 xpac 2.
My guess, and there has been at least one report in Forbes that this is the case,is that we have already seen those content patches with Kanai's cube, the set dungeons, and all the new zones.
Well, friendly advice, NEVER listen to what Forbes says.
Secondly, the next D3 expansion was suppose to take us into the Amazon, and likely contain 2 new classes. The Cube was actually suppose to release on RoS launch, but it got delayed to be reworked. I also know there were 2 other features that were removed from RoS launch that they promised at some point in time we would see.
In the end, set dungeons, the cube, and new zones with no ACT are not an expansion. Any and ALL Diablo expansion or universe game WILL INDEED have a new act. FWIW, a new act can be introduced via a patch, it is simply whether they want to do that or not, which at this point, why not?
It's entering maintenance phase, just like D2 eventually did.

What was confirmed today on twitch? This:"BlizzCon will be really cool this year :-)" ...What confirmed that? Nothing. He could be announce everything, from starcraft, hots, every single game that blizzard have. He not confirmed nothing. Just some hype to make some money from the virtual tickets.
They would not respond to a Diablo specific post if it was not related to diablo, per normal Blizzard PR style. That is not rocket science to figure out, when asked something about specifics, Blizzard stays quite if nothing is planned.
Hence the 100,000 plus tweets about announcements at Gamescom that went UNANSWERED!!!
I would preface all of this however with "Do not get your hopes up to high!" Although something will certainly be talked about and unveiled, do not set expectations to high, or you are only harming yourself in the end. Learn moderation in all thing, and EVERYTHING becomes better.
So, I guess we'll see - today, as it's already Thursday in CEST time zone.
I'm still 99% sure that there won't be any Diablo announcements, but if there is something big - it should happen between 10:00 - 11:00 am CEST, as that's the huge gap in their schedule.
ALSO!
MrLlama also said "any announcements IF there will be any announcements will be tomorrow" and that he "can't say if something is coming and he's just going to mess with us, so we shouldn't take anything too seriously". He was clearly trolling a lot on that stream and thus we cannot really tell whether he knows something, but can't reveal it or he doesn't know anything and was just fooling around. Personally, from watching the thing, I got the latter impression.
Quin and Llama were in-ordinarily excited about something, they have the scoop, and the fact they both said IF there is an announcement it will come on Thursday means something to me, because there is still 2 full days after that.
FYI, simply announcing the D2 HD remake which was already confirmed at Blizzcon 2015 does not qualify!!!!
"Mark your calendar for 18:30 CEST on Tuesday, August 16, when we release a special preview video of what we’ll be showcasing at gamescom 2016, including some new game content.
We’ll also have some epic entertainment on the Blizzard stage, and a few surprises in store.

D3 still has loads of potential, assuming they revamp some of it's systems, so imo an xpack is prefered, not to mention that d4 would take 4+ years to come, while an xpack would be like 1 year max.
Agree on the system changes.
People need to also keep in mind that when an announcement comes it does not mean they just started. Diablo has been posting jobs for their universe since 2014 directly after the release of RoS. This makes me think they have already been working on D4 for about 2 years now. The decision to have a 2nd D3 expansion could tie into how much story needs to be told in D3 in order to progress and make D4 as complete as possible.
maybe ppl will hate me for this, but it would be cool to see Hots but for D3. so a D3 card game, dunno might be fun, but an actual D3 expansion or even D4 would be a lot better.
i mean heartstone sorry, not hots
I actually wonder if they will enter the mobile market with another game. I always was thought a tower defense game based on the Diablo Universe would be a pretty fun game, especially after playing Act 3 and seeing the raid on Bastions Keep.

I still think a Diablo based movie would easily be THE WORST THING EVER!!!!!

I love all this discussion, it shows me one thing that is of vast importance, PEOPLE STILL ABSOLUTELY CARE ABOUT THE DIABLO UNIVERSE!!!!
If we all keep this level of passion, we will get something new and innovative, which is awesome!!!!
