I wasn't talking about he change of the art style, guess I wasn't clear; I was talking about D1 and D2...meaning they had two Diablo games come out already. So they aren't adding things in terms of style this time around? Are you trying to say that D2 was just D1 added upon? Tristram doesn't even look the same; even remotely in D2. I could list a ton of differences between the two; not to mention the largest the style and graphics. I mean has anyone, in the thousands of time playing through, ever stopped to look at some of the bright, cartoony colors used in D2? They've already said that they have taken inspiration from many other places. Why is everything related to lord of the rings? Those movies sucked anyways....you ever think maybe the lord of the rings movies were being unoriginal? Ureh is based on the lore by the way; it's an abandoned city built into the moutainside where one plane exists in sanctuary and the other in a different plane. Why does the dune thresher have to be from tremors? Just because it travels underground?
Umm they didn't have merchandise for D2...really? There were no figurines or posters? Maybe you should look that up on ebay sometime. I don't know where you are getting the notion that they scrapped the art style for something that would be more publicly acceptable? They said themselves it was because those dull, bland colors do not cross over to 3D. I don't really see what your fan art has to do with anything; maybe people didn't want to see the barb artwork because it's nothing new....they've already posted what his art looks like.
Well, I understand your point I think; but it's almost impossible to be original in something....especially art since you mentioned it. Everything is going to take from a collective of experiences. I don't see the comparison to any of those games as being apparent; save for WoW (even though WoW took a lot of things from Diablo). We know almost nothing about the game...I've been saying this for months now geez...we barely even know most of the game mechanics they will use.
Wait...they aren't being creative? They are changing things from a game that has already had 2 iterations of it done already..on top of that trying to make it unique compared to the games that have come out in the past 8 years since its release. They have to be creative to not redo the same aspects again. It sounds to me like what you really want is NO creativity and just a rehash of the first two games. What you really want is more of the same..is what it seems to me. Maybe you're just scared of change?
Lydeck, you make some good points. I totally agree...the games for me were about the loot, the time spent with friends or total strangers playing levels, the areas and unique characters and of course the lore. A lot of this stuff we don't know about yet. People are judging this game on a fraction of a fraction of what they have done. I don't know about everyone else, but I already get a sense of atmosphere from the game. Yeah and I know there's a lot of light and color...that's how contrast is made.
I can see everyone elses point about atmosphere...I agree I don't want the atmosphere to change nor do I think it has/will. Honestly we've seen like what 3 areas of the game so far. Old/New Trist is for sure the darkest in my opinion. It's a new game in the series...it's going to do some things differently. I'm sure people complained as much when d2 came out an look how many people today still play it.
I don't understand what was so scary? D1 came out when I was like 13 or 14 though, maybe I was too old or something. I mean, yeah I have moments like "oh crap, I'm gonna die...have to get out of here." I think it is neccesary to remember too that they have said a lot of these characters they are showing are over leveled and in the real game enemies will be much harder. That's another thing there are not a lot of enemies out yet either, hell has anyone realized we haven't even seen the Dune Thresher in a screen or anything yet?
Honestly the moments were more memorable than scary to me. The Butcher, Diablo coming out in D2 after you open all the seals, having to fight on Mt Arreat, etc. Those were all interesting, definable moments in the game that honestly made Diablo unique. We don't know what those are yet in D3; there will probably be a bunch I'm sure. Having fans like us; Blizzard knows they totally have their work cut out for them...I'm mean c'mon we are considered some of the most rabid, hardcore fans...
I second those before me who said annoying people complaining about everything and just being plain stupid or calling everyone 'noob'. I mean; I deal with enough jerks in real life, can't I at least play games without dealing with them too.
