Actually, a quad core wasn't a bad idea. I routinely multitask and it works like a charm. Especially considering mine is clocked higher than 90% of the dual core chips.
Quad Core at this point is a bad idea in terms of games. Quad Cores are slower than some Dual Cores, and there are still a lot of games which have trouble with affinity.
Like, Quad Core is very good for Maya, but, apparently, not for Crysis. And for Perimeter, it would be a disadvantage because that game only reads one core or begins to run at a weird speed. So I guess it depends on what you are doing. I just don't like it when people start to complain about optimization if they payed a lot for their system...
You want me to rec something with FRAPS for proof or just tell what FPS I have?
The game is poorly optimized. I have very close to top of the line hardware and I should be able to run it very close to maximum settings with little problem and that's not the case.
It has nothing to do with which processor I'm using.
This game was never advertised for normal PC users... I was expecting severe issues with it, lol. And now my cheap non-DX10 card can run it and play it on high.
No idea I'm doing my math/eco homework so I can't really play.
Well I tested it with Fraps and it's mostly 20-25 dropping to 15 if a lot of vegetation is met, or rising to 30 if there is not much to render except people.
IXBT guys say that Fraps doesn't count Crysis FPS correctly and it gets late by 5 FPS or so so I dunno.
Also Crysis uses 2 cores, possibly 3, but it doesn't engage the fourth much, it's very concentrated on the render process so the VC ends up being more important.

Specs:
Core2Quad 2.4
8800 Ultra
4 gigs of ddr ballistix.
Settings:
Very High
1920x1200 Resolution.
Ran Flawlessly.
If your having trouble running it, please run it at a lower resolution.
even at 800x600 Very High the game looks great.
Game looks stunning, it is similiar to farcry.
I was disapointed with the first few minutes, running through a beach.
Then a dark dense jungle.
Then I saw sunlight creep out of the vegetation, I walked out of the jungle onto a hillside.
I saw a gigantic set of mountains covered in trees, a beautiful ocean and sun, and a small village beneath me.
Seriously,this game looks real.
Core2Quad 3.6
8800 GTS 640
2 GB Crucial Ballistix
Settings:
1440x900
High
I get 25-30 fps. It blows.

Speaking of FPS, I really don't care as long as it's playable. I've played with much greater lag.
And Quad Core was a bad idea.
Fraps > http://www.fraps.com/
You run it before you start the game and then while you are playing, it shows your realtime fps in the corner of your choice.
