This is very inaccurate. World of Warcraft was last said to have 10.5 million subscribers. It has never been said it has lost subscribers, far less to drop to 5 millions.
ok that was just a guess, didnt know it was growing.. dam.. but i still think diablo 3 will dominate it ^^
jebus its hosile on here today, wheres all the love gone ?
if d3 was announced at this years wwi or even blizzcon you still wont expect a release until sometime around 2010. That being said i would expect that wow's popularity would have started to decline by then due to either competition or lack of interest, if d3 is announced i strongly beleive that wotlk will be the last expansion released for wow freeing up the team to work on a new title which i beleive would be wow2 due to the fact that it would make financial sense to continue an interest in wow (thus continuing a regular revinue) and would be announced either next year or 2010 before the release of d3.
once the teams working on starcraft 2 and diablo 3 have been finished they will develop an expansion for both titles or even 2 depending on popularity and also if they increase there man power further to have a fourth team working on yet another title which would be something original but would still have a fantasy feel
all of this is my opinion though and not based on any evidance or facts
i likes the speculation.
I wonder if the secret team is making a brand-spanking-new title. That'd be awesome.

YAll seem to asume DIABLO3 cant be a MMO for the following reasons and let me point them out why they are wrong.
A) Blizzard does not want it competeing with WoW!
Answer) Wrong there is nothing more they would love to have happen then one of thier own games competeing for NUMBER1
If its a MMO it will just be like WoW.
Answer) why? Why couldnt blizzard think of something really new and cool. Also Why does it have to be cartoon graphics. I remind you in 2 countrys the word DIABLO implys "M" rating already so. No children already. Lets add good graphics and killer story...
C) It has to be hack/slash RPG not MMO!
Answer) why cant it be both...
I doubt it will be an MMO. WoW stole a lot of ideas directly from Diablo. Sockets, gems, the whole item system is really pretty much diablo 2, set bonuses, everything. It'd be them just having two competing mmos. People will play one or the other, they probably wouldn't play both (unless they offered a combo subscription for like $20/month, then maybe). The next gen MMO is NOT WoW2 though, the lead designer of WoW said in an interview I wanna say in January or February that they haven't even started thinking about WoW2 yet. They will most likely introduce a new graphics engine before they do WoW2 and that's not even in the works.
I wouldn't be 100% surprised if the next gen MMO is diablo based, but I just don't think it will be. I would guess it's starcraft based as that's a whole different type of game world. Who would be a tank in starcraft? There are so many guns and everything as well, it just would make so much more sense in the end. I don't see blizzard coming up with a whole new franchise based on an MMO, that's why it really has to be Diablo MMO or World of Starcraft. And like I said before, I think Diablo is just too similar.
However, I don't know anything about the inside workings. I hope diablo 3 is just a new diablo game in the series. I hope there is a diablo 3! It's definitely possible, and it'd make a lot of money. I do know most of the guys who worked on diablo 2 are gone, so that makes it a bit more sad. It's also really sad that they were working on D3 at one point and canceled it. Anyway, hopefully it's announced in the coming few weeks and we can all wet our pants.

Not if Diablo is free.
Then WoW players would transition to Diablo causing Blizzard to lose money.

Huge groups of people sittting in front of a giant Diablo trying to kill it, doesn't sound to bad, right? Now imagine if this game was a hack and slash, where you run into mobs of tons of little midget daemons and slice them open with two axes... but now, there's only one boss... and you sit there, spamming the one skill you maxed.... sitting... and sitting.... not fun in Diablo, sorry...
Blizzard puts some things from Diablo into wow, Blizzard/WoW didn't break into one of their own games (Diablo) illegally and take it's stuff.
I didn't mean they broke in and stole stuff from the Diablo shop. I meant they used the same game mechanics as they did in Diablo 2. A lot of stuff from there actually. If they were to just utilize it again in Diablo, it'd be old hat. Nothing to draw new people. I have ultimate faith in Blizzard to make a great Diablo MMO. I LOVE WoW because of how much it reminds me of Diablo 2. It was a Diablo 2 I could play forever and always get something new coming. I stopped playing because I didn't have the time to spend on it that I wanted to. That made it not worth my $15/month.
However, I just think that the Starcraft universe would lend itself to a more unique game experience, and that's what Blizzard wants. That's what I was trying to say. It'd be a MORE different game. I probably wouldn't play a Diablo MMO because I just don't have the time. I love playing Diablo 2 and I love playing it online with some of my friends. I don't like having the high end raiding being for 25 people and taking 3 hour chunks out of my life. Then, having to do that 3 or 4 times a week. That just makes it less fun. I loved raiding, but it took over my life and I never got to see anyone anymore.
I don't mind paying maybe a $5/month battle.net fee for Diablo 3 where it's just a server that I can save my own game and play with my friends whenever I want, or join someone elses server and maybe play with 5 or 6 other people. Maybe make it like instances are in WoW, that part of WoW I love. I just don't like paying $15 a month to have a set schedule each week.

But Ferret, IF Diablo happens to be free, Then they would lose money becuase people from wow would transition to Diablo.
Meh, I think most people would just play it with WoW. When I was hardcore into raiding, Oblivion came out. Almost everyone in my guild bought that game, but we beat our way through BWL pretty quickly because those people still showed up to raid and do everything else. The people who play WoW, don't just do that and nothing else. I also have a few of my old guildies on my Wii friend's list and I've played stuff with them before. I've also played Warcraft 3 online with them (unfortunately almost no one still had their D2 discs so I couldn't really play that with them).
I seriously doubt Diablo III will be a WoW style mmo for many reasons
1.) They already have competiton in the hack and slash genre with Mythos (from the original creators of Diablo). While Mythos is stated as mmo, it's the style of Diablo but with mmo elements thrown in.
2.) Blizzard listens to their fanbase very closely and should know damn well that most ppl do not want the next Diablo game in the form of WoW. One quick look around these forums and you can see what the majority wants from Diablo III.
3.) Everyone here seems to have forggoten that Blizzard is hard at work at majorly revamping their Battle.net service and since, in the past, all 3 franchises (Diablo, Starcraft, and Warcraft) have used the Battle.net I seriously doubt they would spend so much time, money, and effort just for Starcraft 2.
4.) I doubt Diablo III just started production after WoW was released meaning that if so, they were making the game before they had any idea how much money they would make off of WoW. Do you think the would completely scrap everything they previously had in mind for the game, drop the genre completely, and shove away what the fans thought?
5.) If they announced Diablo III as a mmo now, it very well could drive ppl away from WoW and the Wotlk expansion. Many ppl could just go 'Why should I continue to pay for WoW when I will be moving to Diablo III as soon as it comes out'? I know it's a huge shot in the dark but there is a possibility of that situation happening.
Imo, if Diablo III turns out anything like an mmo it will be just like Mythos' style while using the new and improved Battle.net
Diablo III better have a subscription or i'll be pissed. Without it, it would just turn into Diablo II and by that I mean that the economy would be in the shitter, you would never know if your traded items were legit, and there would constantly be hackers looking to steal your stuff.
Look how nice the economy is in WoW. No hacks, no dupes, no bullshit. They need this with DIII.

Well, I could even talk seriously and personally about sex without saying something akin to, "My girlfriend and I have had sexual intercourse not once, not twice, but thrice. During these times I had inserted my penis in and out of her vagina and ejaculated accordingly. I gently sobbed afterwards while she held me in her arms. This has all brought us closer together."
i likes the speculation.

Can I call you up? You seem to know alot about the future. You could be just like those psychic bitches.
I beg to differ, Diablo III will not be a MMO like WoW, because, Blizzard does not want two MMOs competeing againts eachother.

WoW didn't steal anything.

Demons ?
Demons ?
What about them?...
Are you spelling it wrong?
I put a question mark because I don't know if Daemons is something else or if your spelling demons wrong or something....
