First of all, sorry for the possible mistakes. English isn't my main language. I've tried to avoid the spoiler on the title, to those two in the world who didn't played Diablo III
I would like to clarify that I didn't play the expansion yet, because I'm replaying all the acts first. So if anything revelant about this topic happens in the Act VI, I ask you guys to avoid spoilers.
Well, i know it's one of the first big things that happen in Diablo III, but it bothers me everytime that I replay the Act I and see that. What I'm talking about is the death of Deckard Cain.
Deckard Cain is arguably one of the most important characters in the Diablo series. Since the first 'till the third one. He have a huge knowledge, knows almost all the secrets out there and is always trying to bring peace in the world, guiding the heroes through the challenges they have to face. He have a important hole to fill, and in Diablo II he's always traveling with the hero, giving important information not only to the story, but helping stop the evil from spreading. His work, his passion, is something unique.
Then... Diablo III.
I'm a old player, and like a good old player, I was really happy to see Deckard Cain again, with the original voice (at least is what I think. I don't really know if the voice-actor changed). I was happy and excited to see new secrets being discovered, while learning more about the lore in Diablo.
Then this... girl... happened. I saw potential at first, I thought it was some very young person who is willing to follow Cain's steps, but in a very innocent way. Not knowing the true danger or the real importance of things. But no. She's someone, really, really out of the world she lives, thinking that Cain is always "telling stories".
Like. Really.
If was someone not that important to the lore, I would understand totally, but Cain is one of the most important characters in the franchise. Well, it's my opinion, but after this, I was certain that Deckard Cain lost his importance on the lore.
Then. He died. To a demon that even today I didn't saw any importance at all. Okay, it was one of the Belial's pal, but only this. It could be anyone, anywhere. Deckard Cain died, after being kidnapped. The hero arrives to late, the girl wasn't able to stop in time, and Cain dies.
One of the main characters, dies, in the hands of a random demon, in a very simplistic way, without any emotion or even a cutscene. Even later, when Tyrael tells the girl his story, i didn't saw any importance given to a really huge character.
Well, this is my little "rant" about the lore. I've beaten the game, following all the acts again to beat Reaper of Souls. I miss the "hello my friend, stay awhile and listen". I know that characters sometimes have to die, but not this way, right?
Sorry if I made some mistake in the name of the thread or something, I'm still knowing the forum
Maghda isn't even a demon... she's just a human with a stupid hat.
I like how they showed that Cain had indeed aged twenty years since D2, but at the same time, I felt like his death was really forced. Especially with how dumb Maghda was: FIX THE SWORD! NO?! FINE, DIE! ...except herp, now no one can fix the sword, idiot, and Belial gets nothing but a matching set of fancy paper weights. If anything, she should have killed Leah.
Speaking of which, Leah not believing the stories of Hell was kind of weird. I mean, everyone else in the world seems to know that Hell and demons are legit things, even just as concepts because they've never seen either. But Leah, she seems to completely think that zombies and skeletons and all kinds of weird shit is normal but then... demons? TOTAL CROCK, CAIN!
It's amazing to see how Maghda almost screwed everything up by killing Cain, and even then, I don't know why the heck she didn't kill Leah. I mean, she have this "potential", so it's obviously the major treat. I mean, which one you'll kill first: The girl that have MAHFIRELAZER or the old one that talks about prophecy? Everyone knows in this point what's goin' on. Maybe keep her and then force him to make things the way they want? Nope. Let's kill the old pal.
The "not believing" stuff. I didn't get it. I see a lot of NPC's talking about monsters and how they lose their families. Legends and such. You leave your town and face a couple of monster trying to eat your soul. "It's not safe anymore" sounds like a hint, right? I remember one dialogue that my DH had with Leah, an she said: "But everything went to darkness". Well. If the new hero know what's going on and everybody talks about demons and tragedy, then the girl, which had learn from one of the best, doesn't believe?
It would be awesome if the girl dies and only in the end she realizes how blind was. Then Cain have a new reason to move on. But nope. Let's keep the girl that have MAHFIRELAZER.
