I'm sure there will be the Hack & Slash flow to the game still, but with a little incentive to move around. Is that such a bad thing?
Absolutely not, and the "kiting" you described is perfectly-appropriate to the game. Hell, I wouldn't even call that "kiting" honestly. You moved the monsters a small distance for a tactical advantage. Kiting is that dogshit we did in the beginning and there's no chance we go back to that!
Shaggy...
I was actually going to mention something like that in my previous comment, but I didn't get to it. I feel like a lot of people (not necessarily Polrayne) make the mistake of thinking any kind of strategic positioning or retreat constitutes "kiting" when it really doesn't. For instance, I know I've seen Barb players complain that they didn't want to have to kite...ya know, because they're big giant indestructible walls that should be allowed to just stand in one place.
However, I do stand by my opinion that, while kiting may not be required, like it once was...I do feel like the updates will leave a lot of room open for people to play kiting builds if they so choose.
Which I think is a big part of the overarcing problems D3 has had...kiting used to be one of the primary ways to surviving, and it shouldn't be. It should be a potential strategy, if a person wants to employ it...but a player should be able to decide that for themselves, instead of getting pigeonholed into it because there's no other choice. :-)

Yeah, I stand semi-corrected there.
If people CHOOSE to go back to that style, more power to them I suppose. But I don't think Blizzard is going to re-make that mistake such that kiting becomes the status quo mainly because that destroys the "hack-n-slash" feel of the game. Therefore, it just doesn't make sense as the overwhelming way to play the game. Just like tank builds being the only way to play melee. Sure, if that's what you want to do I support you, but the game cannot be built around that as the "norm."
would like to kite at begginig of ros until u get more and more strong its all part of getting to higher lv .Dont know what u think its gonna be like ownage at beggining like u owning now?
now, we have to consider our 'current' gears going to RoS. surely we are to start with what we have now and farm for the new ones. with that in mind and the skill/mechanic/gear stat changes/etc, maybe we wouldn't kite asap but then again we have no idea how new enemies would play out.
i do hope they would make high difficulty have better drops. as of the now, mp10 drops are surely disappointing that there's really no reason to go there even if you can clear maps under 10 mins

Obligatory picture of Norm:
