Very unimpressive. Ultimately, I expected much more from a game in development for over 5 years now.
The cinematic was boring, uninformative, and simply unfitting to introduce us to the world of Diablo with some weird drawings of Angels and Demons fighting.
Exactly what I was saying. The Intro to Diablo 2 was really good and really helped set up the story. This intro for the 3rd instalment falls flat in comparison.

The intro for Diablo 3 doesn't set us up as players in any way. We don't gain knowledge via watching the intro nor do we feel like we are learning anything. It doesn't tell us anything about the story nor does it give us a point of reference. I have no idea who Leah is and she shows me nothing about herself. I can only assume shes important because shes in the cinematic, not because of what it tells me.
Cain is there for a split second and then the church falls to pieces and it ends.
The first 30 seconds or whatever of Angels fighting Demons in some weirdly drawn artstyle tells me nothing either. It's a Diablo game. I already am fully aware of Angels and Demons fighting one another. I am the PLAYER. What am I, the player, going to be doing in this game? Fighting the Demons? Fighting the Angels? Fighting both? Who is my enemy? What is my goal? What am I being INTRODUCED to? You have not told me ANYTHING. Just made me more clueless. Not in a good "I want to know more" way either.
Diablo 1 and Diablo 2 had clear cut intro cinematics that were both highly engaging and very "introductory."
What I saw in this cinematic that was just released was nothing short of mockery of the past games introductions and it might as well have been a random cut scene from game that has nothing to do with Diablo.
Very poor job Blizzard. I'm beginning to wonder how Diablo 3 will turn out without Blizzard North as you've so clearly indicated the stark differences already.
The only people who find this introduction impressive simply haven't been playing Diablo for 17 years. Either that or they never paid attention to Diablo 2's cinematic masterpieces.

I don't know i wasn't to thrilled. I guess i hyped myself up way to much with the whole release date thing. The cinematic itself, meh. I may just start re-adjusting my expectations to something more realistic, like June.

thats a rather bad thing to say.
You have to keep in mind, thats not what opening cinematics are anymore. Its been 10 years. They are now or catching your eye, for maken you go... -wow-.
They now have technology to tell you the story IN GAME, WHILE you play, they dont need to do it here anymore, so they can make it for pure eyecandy... thats what people dont get. Its better to tell story in-game.
You couldnt make good looking ingame areas for storytelling like you can now.
The cinematic was epic, but I cant grasp the full respect for it because I'm let down by lack of release date. I know they never said there would be a release date at the end but it would have made it so much better. Sooo let down right now. I'm a sad panda
It was only 2:42 seconds long. I have a feeling that there will be more to the cinematic as well as an additional cinematic piece for the character that you select.
Just like with the 'Black Soulstone' cinematic they said they kept certain parts of the cinematic out until game release... I assume it's something very similar here.

Now, I haven't played the beta, but I've watched plenty of livestreams, etc, and this cinematic looks to take the player directly into the game. What's the point of a generic cinematic of demons yelling and a sizzle reel of skills and characters when that's already been done (by Blizzard) many times before? This cinematic is a great way to kick off this game, and I have no doubt there will be even more awesome ones in the game.

Diablo was released in 1994?!
I though it was very cool, yes it doesn't tell us much about the story per se but it introduces two very important characters and shows the starting events of what bring the player to Tristram in the first place.
In addition to that it shows some general demon vs angels fighting to set the theme of the game. It's a war between heaven and hell and Sanctuary is stuck in between. What is this if not an introduction?

The game itself pretty much explains everything to you once you start playing... not sure why people want everything laid out for them before they even start playing.

That "technology" as you say isn't a wow factor anymore. No ones wowed by special effects. Entire movies are produced without actors now and on low budgets. You have to have a compelling story and a point of reference to become engaged in what's being shown to you.
Not to mention that has NOTHING to do with the first 30 or whatever seconds of that insane weird ass artstyle that looks NOTHING like Diablo and it doesn't remind me of ANY of the past Diablo games at all. I have no idea what I was watching and if it hadn't been for the hooded angels I would've been very confused. I have no idea where that art style came from as a past Diablo player. Ultimately, the intro feels nothing like Diablo.

Why did we need to be shown that? More importantly, would anyone have any idea what the hell was going on if not for their prior knowledge that Diablo is about Angels and Demons in the first place? Do you see what I'm saying? It was worthless footage and the art style was NOT anything relevant to anything I've seen in past Diablo games.

It's obviously done in the same fashion as the art in the Book of Cain, which is the book you see cain reading and scribbling through. The intro is his "prophecy" that he's deciphering. You see what I'm saying?

Then you have not been paying attention to news, they already said they would be useing some of that art style throughout the full game, so you might want to get use to it.
