It lists time played per character on the selection screen. If you add up all my chars, 6 or 7 max levels and them some I probably have totalled close to 50 hours played
On a serious note, this isn't a stat that I'm really fond of. I hope there's a way to turn it off or even not allow friends to see it. I enjoy some privacy while playing.

Lol, the character was just created for the purpose of showing the time played thing.
Also, I don't think anyone else will be able to see it. I think it's just for you on your character screen. Unless it ends up somewhere where people can look up your character and see things like that, but I'd hope they wouldn't do that either.
Worried about your friends making fun of you? I know I am
i wouldn't worry about that but i can see idiots pulling that stat out of their asses if you happened to start an argument online.... "Oh yeah? well, look at your playtime u have no life hurr hurr durrrrrrrrrrrrp!?"

Kind of. Not real/true friends (more like our acquaintances), and not exaclty make fun of, just wasting time arguing about a pointless thing - a trait some people have.

Why would you want to socialize with people that would mock you for enjoying Diablo III?

The question isn't why do I kill. The question is, why I don't kill everybody.

Is there or will there be an indicator on the menu or stat page that tells you how many hours you have played the game for?
Yeah, similar to that. It would be cool to know how long you have played the game for, after all the different characters lol.
Cool/depressing
Example (18:30):

Character name
Level # class
Time Played: #
Last Act:
So it at least tells you on your character screen how long you've played each character.
Of course it has the side-effect of letting me know how much of my life I have drained away (GOTTA FIND THAT INFERNO ITEM TO SELL FOR $200!!!111ONE)

Ha ha, that's nothing. I had around 400 days /played and I quit nearly 2 years ago. Getting rank 14 really beefed up my playtime back in the day.
