No, I 100% understand where they are coming from, and im glad they even told us to begin with.
However, they could have just been smart enough to say that in the first place, as they know thats what we care about
Agreed, I'm not mad since at least SOMETHING is starting, just wish that would have been the case earlier today... so I could have like you know, gotten up to pee.
if { $invited == nope } { set hope ($hope - 1) print "OMFG not invited yet. Going to CRY ($beta - $hope) tears."
} elseif { $invited == YES } { print "OMFG INVITED!!!! Going to JIZZ ($beta + $hope) gallons of PURE JIZZ!!!!!!" break
}
}
true/false ftw... just trolling^^

damn right, it's better than yours.
i let Sixen know about this beauty, he's gonna embed it on the home page. the best part is, there's a background program that'll just keylog his username and password granting me full haxccess to his account so i can get my beta jizz roll on. i'm gonna stream it live too. for the bold.

Went outside today, the graphics were ok. But the gameplay sucked
So, I'm thinking they weren't planning on starting the closed beta yet but they realized after this weekend they weren't going to be able to keep the press out of it. They decided to at least do right by the guys doing what they asked and open up the beta for press members. However, they still weren't ready to start the actual closed beta yet.
/tinfoilhat
Why they elected not to tell everyone the truth or to simply announce press invitations had been sent is beyond me. Something like:
"Hey guys, we know we said press would gain access along with the start of the closed beta, but we're just not ready for that yet. We're going to let press start playing and posting. As soon as we work out a few lingering kinks we'll begin sending opt in invitations. Thanks for your understanding and patience. I know we're all excited about this game!"
I think that would have gone over quite well with the players. Anyway, Zarhym, in traditional Blizzard style, told us practically nothing. He posted a whole bunch of words but the meaning was all pretty shallow. Literally the only solid thing we got is a daily time frame for checking on invites. 9-6, M-F, PST. Even then, he made sure to qualify it with "typically."
Preemptive defense incoming: I know people think they're keeping the peace and being mature by blindly defending Blizzard and the CMs, but it's not "immature" or "entitled" to call a spade a spade. Community management doesn't have to be as hard as they make it. My frustration isn't with how long Blizzard is taking or about how unlikely it is for me to get into the beta. I'm a Blizzard fanboi and have been since Diablo 1. I know the ropes by now. My frustration is with how they've made communicating with their fans overcomplicated and ineffective.
Either you get into the beta or you don't. If you get into the beta, you will get into it at this time, or at some other time that is later.
If you're feeling mad, hurt, butt-hurt, really mad, sad, betrayed, wronged, or otherwise down in the dumps, I have a simple remedy: GET OFF THE PIPE! Unplug, go to bed, go for a run, go fight a bum, go shoot a monkey into space... whatever it takes.

What is it about the D3 community where they read every criticism as being "butthurt" or what have you? It's possible to have a problem with the way a company does its business without actually feeling emotional about it.
i guess i won't hold my breath the numbers they are accepting seem pretty low and I have no doubt the number of people opted in for the beta are quite high... and i have never really been that lucky of a person

Re-read my post. If you don't feel emotional about what Blizzard "did", my post doesn't apply to you. What is it about the D3 community where people are intellectually sub-normal?

Tomorrow makes sense. It's a Wednesday. Press gets a day on the servers to throw out some info and get some coverage. Blizzard monitors the increased stress and tells everyone that closed beta is here.
Yeah, I'm going on tomorrow or Thursday. Friday at the latest. Sometime this week.

Probably a good idea not to get your hopes up regardless, but I wouldn't despair just yet either.
They said one of their goals was to ultimately stress test the new B.Net and their servers in general. I kinda doubt they have enough numbers to truly do that right now. Especially compared to the several million people who will likely be trying to access those servers the first week of release. Right now it stills seems like they are mostly looking for big bugs with the game and with Bnet/AH. When they move more into stress testing I would imagine the number of invites will increase quite a bit.
Another thought is that the events of the weekend (all the youtube media streaming) may have forced them to send out press invites sooner then expected. They simply decided to call it the start of closed beta instead of saying they just let press/media into F/F beta. They probably assumed people would have been happier about the start of closed beta then angry that only press/media got in.
