So yeah it's obvious they will announce the Trading / Mercenaries systems. However there is much more still unknown.
Battle.net? Let's see things though their eyes. When they announced new systems/spells/zones they specifically said "IT NEEDS TO BE AWESOME!"
So then we ask, What is not awesome about Diablo 2?
Battle.net style chat channels, these are so last decade.
For anyone who have played Mythos, the very early beta, you had sort of capital cities which you could hang around in cities and start games from there. Combine this with the chat channels system (like USA-1, GER-25, etc). You could get a lot of instanced cities with a flat cap of players in them. Why? Because its awesome to showcase your gear and whatever character improvements. Plus, its fun sitting around seeing some visuals instead of watching flat boarders whenever outside a game.
And.... Theres an infinite of fun possibilities with this system.
Beside the Auction House. Imagine this; You got someone to trade with, you say "Lets meet up in ENG-12". So when you're there it is actually a whole lot different than the channel you came from. Something like randomized city blocks. Caldeum anyone?
Also; They've said guilds would be apart of D3 right? If everyone can make a chat channel, then those channels will also get a randomized city block. Wouldn't that be an awesome place to hangout as guildies?
Next: Auction House. Would it be awesome to -log into the game world every time you want to look up on your auctions, mail, etc.? - no - So, that would also be a great use for this system. Simply join TRADE-X, get a randomized city block with an auction house/mail box etc. See other players trade as well.
Since D3 doesn't require all that much pc power and that these so called "city blocks" would be limited in size it is possible that they can be loaded without a loading screen.
More systems? Ask yourself; What is not awesome about D2? Then come up with a better way to handle it, multiply awesomeness by 10 and you'll have what they have in store for us

The little boat gently drifted across the pond exactly the way a bowling ball wouldn’t...
Was it Guild Wars that let you purchase Guild Halls? I'm pretty sure it was.
But anyways, you could purchase a Guild Hall (for a hefty sum) and you could choose from a variety of different themes. I think it would be cool if you could do the same in D3 - however, you could customize you're own area. From initial purchase, to customizing it, it would cost a lot of gold.
Perhaps that would maybe drive the value of gold up? But then again, should you be allowed to get a Guild Hall if you just have a lot of gold? No - you'd probably have to do something else to actually earn it. Like have 25 guild members beat Diablo III on Hell mode or complete all Guild Achievements. Something else besides gold would have to be earned before you get something that prestigious.
Sounds too MMORPGish for Diablo 3. It'd be cool and all but I can't see this happening. It could potentially ruin the Diablo atmosphere but would fit well with the "showing off" aspect of the game. Still... I highly doubt something of this nature would happen.

I disagree, having a flat cap on players being able to join a channel (like d2 had) won't make it an MMO. Besides, the MMO aspect for games comes within the game. Which D3 clearly has not. The whole Battle.net function looks a lot like an MMO (Massive Multiplayer Online, the term says it, how many players are there on b.net?) And how many players are within a game? Meaning D3 isn't an MMO. Although Battle.net can clearly show some MMO aspects but won't influence the game in any manner.
And what would you rather have? A whole line of stacked characters sitting next to each other? Completely unaffected by the game world they exist in?
OR, have them stay in the world, add flavor, visuals, interactive and an -alive- chat room.
Also, when you're using the Auction House; how in the world would it seem plausible when only 3 other can join your game. It's completely shut off from the rest of the online experience. Having a general area (with a lot of duplicates) would make it feel so much more realistic.
PS, yes i like my idea

Really, in my opinion we should not have any high expectations for BNet 2.0.
I was really looking forward to it in SC2, where it turned out to be a total disappointment, with even lower basic functionality than the original BNet. Right now it has improved somewhat, Blizz has finally patched it with chat channels (which I like less than the BNet 1.0 version), but for example Custom Games are still a mess. So, the only thing that I could reasonably hope for, is that the chat channels/entire BNet interface in D3 will be as good as in D2, not worse.
Honestly, BNet 2.0 is the worst part of Starcraft 2 (a game that is otherwise awesome), and I'm afraid it will remain the same in D3. So, no cool ideas to be implemented. Sorry guys.
Blizzard will have 2 games running on bnet, don't you think they will spend a little more time on it than before? The possibilities for D3 using bnet are much greater than SC2.
I mean common, there is no company that would spend countless of hours redoing a system which won't have improvements.

I dont think that b.net is bad for starcraft its gets you to the game it gets you out of the game, and you can talk to ppl, the only problems i've had is not being able to hear my friends on voice chat, have any suggestions for that?
