The splashscreen at the top of Blizzcon specifically shows characters from WoW, SC2, and Diablo, but none from WarCraft (I know Blood Elves are inded from WC, but this one looks WoW specific).
While I must admit that my own stupidity got me here, it wasn't because of the reason brought forth. I assumed that no one here recognizes WoW characters when they see them, which was an absurd thought.
actually you never made a stupid post ^^
Murlocs made their first appearance in Warcraft 3 and Blood Elves in Warcraft 3 - The Frozen Throne (its not WoW is it?).
Anyway, the banner shows all the Blizzard franchises, as they always did. Every BlizzCon has a fan art contest about all franchises too, so thats why all show on the banner. As someone else said earlier, its more likely to have a WoW expansion announced (with a release 1-2 years later) rather than having Diablo 3 yet. We can still hope though.

Hmm, great theory. But if Diablo has been in development since LoD like everyone says, then it would be more likely if they announce D3. Hell, they could reveal both and nobody would have a problem with it.

not saying someone would have a problem with it. Rumor said that Diablo 3 as it was after the first development wasnt good enough and they started over with it. Again, some of the founders of Blizzard and vital parts of Blizzard North left for other companies. The "team behind Diablo and Diablo II" had been recruiting over the last 2-3 years. Diablo 3 should be still in a very early stage of development. Except perhaps the storyline that Metzen thought of.

Yes. You are exactly right. I kind of forgot about that. But wasn't it said that the game was near completion and it just wasn't fun enough, so they closed down the Blizzard North and are now doing a hardcore overhaul. That's what I heard, there are always different sides to rumors. Metzen is said to be our almighty Lord reincarnated, by the way.

i sure hope he does! But all we knew in the first place were rumors. We have no clue whats really going on in Blizzard. Maybe they didnt start developing the game till after WoW was out, or maybe they did make it and didnt like it so they closed it down. The point here is that Blizzard is so secretive that none knows something before they let it out. And till now all we can do is check for job ops and assume. I still cant tell for sure. Rumors (that partially come from Blizzard people - so they were told to do so) say of another announcement. All we can do is wait to know for sure. Till then, hope!
It's possible that they just included the soulstone there so that he would be recognizeable. I mean, other than the fact that he's red and mean looking, there's nothing to prove that he is actually Diablo. The soulstone in the head is very recognizeable though, so it may just be meant as an identifier.
Also - It's already been made rather obvious that Blizzard isn't in to big hints in their images, so they may have kept it there to keep away rumours of "OMG! Look! The stone is gone! IT"S D3!!!". (Not to say that I don't hope to god that they announce D3).
Another thing that is certain is that Blizzard has scrapped projects entirely for not meeting their standards of quality, e.g. Warcraft Adventures. I actually thought that game looked fun too. I was sad they scrapped it.

WarCraft Adventures looked like an awesome game. It was a sad day when they confirmed it was cancelled. But scrapping an entire sequel to one of Blizzard's best would be a bad move. One thing I can see is Blizzard building a concept until it is nearly finished and then realizing that it is very dissapointing, thus having to scrap it and go a different route.
When D3 does come out, Siaynoq, shall we join forces?

Didn't Blizzard also drop a Diablo sequel/expansion - the night of the long knives when Blizzard North got closed down? It too didn't live up to expectations - the only possible explanation. It's not like they were developing a new game with commercial risk. All they need is QUALITY for a new Diablo title and it's a guaranteed hit.
Maybe someone else understands the closing of B North better than me.

So we've got over the problem of colour in D3. Great. Now let's argue about everything else not yet set in stone and help make this game simply great! Game on.

Who knows exactly is the people that work there. But rumors suggest that they did scrap their first rendition on Diablo, and are now doing a massive overhaul because it didn't meet expectations what so ever. And quality is what Blizzard is all about, that's why none of their games are bad. I don't recall any of their games getting below 8.0 on IGN (Does Hellfire count or any of the expansions?).
