It's possible the authentication server you are hitting is on the fritz, try selecting a different gateway, if that fails wait about 30 minutes and try again.
If that was true then it wouldn't detect the random invalid passwords I typed.
You might be right but as a SQL DBA I have seen databases look and act like they are responding but only to discover a hung SPID or locked table blocked new queries. Depending on what the return code and how the client app is designed to handle error codes is could appear to the client application your username or password is simply wrong. It could also mean a lot of other things, maybe a piece of middleware responsible for passing requests isn't responding, load balancing between clustered servers isn't working, who knows.
Going under the assumption this issue is on your side (because you can’t do anything if it’s on theirs) Here are couple of things you can check. Also here is a help from blizzards site, things to check.
I’m assuming you are running Windows (if not my bad) check the event logs to see if any error’s come up, particularly under Application, System, and Internet Explorer. Look at the clock on your computer, then try to connect and after it fails look to see if any events have appeared in your event logs with time stamps that are close to the current time. You may need to refresh the screen to make sure you can see the latest events.
You can get there by going to Start, Run, and type in eventvwr and hit [Enter]
You are going to look for any yellow warnings or red errors like below
If there are errors post them here and I may be able to help
Do you have version 1.12?
Do you have a firewall on the computer that is setup to block outbound ports (maybe by accident if other people use the computer), it could be an anti-virus/anti-spyware/firewall all in one package. (See blizzard link above)
Do you have more than one antivirus or firewall on your system? (If you think that is crazy, I have seen that. Windows has it's own firewall and then people install something like Norton Enpoint Protection voila! Two firewalls)
This is much less likely but do you have a hardware firewall with outbound ports blocked, if you don’t know then probably not.
Do you have any other chat applications running in the back ground, you know like MSN IM runs in the bottom right corner all the time even when you are not using it. It is possible such an application could already have a connection and not let anything else use it.
Did you or someone else in the house recently make any changes to your system, such as apply Windows updates (especially Internet Exploder updates), if so do you remember what they are?
Were there any changes made to the security settings in Internet Explorer, the reason I ask is because even if you use FireFox or some other browser Internet Explorer is enmeshed into Windows. Third party applications such as a chat program inside Diablo may piggy back off Internet Explorer components even though they tell you they don’t.
I recently had that happen with an application our company used that told me it used its own communication medium. Because our company works with personal health information in medical claims I had to lock down Internet Explorer (IE) tight so the medical reviewers could not surf the Internet on these machines. The people who made the remote viewer application swore up and down it did not piggy back on IE in any way shape or form. So I locked down IE and I’ll be damned if the application stopped working! Egg on their face.
If you find events in your event logs, post them here before doing anything and I’ll come up with some possible solutions for you.
Hopefull one of those will shed some light for you

*sigh* I hate you Blizzard. Thanks to your stupidity, I have to give up yet another exploit before I'm ready. I thought the forums would be back pretty quickly, so I didn't post this earlier. And yes, this came from the hours of research I've done on these forums.
Directions 1-4 curiosity of Blizzard Tech Supprt
- Click on Start then Search or Find files and folders to search your hard drive for a specific file.
- In the file name field, type the word "hosts" (without the quotes) and search for that file.
- Once Windows has found this file, you may want to make a backup copy and name it hosts.bak.
- Double-click the hosts file (not the backup) and choose to open it using Notepad.
- Add this line to the bottom of the file: 12.129.242.24 forums.battle.net
Note: When this is fixed, you should remove that line. Blizzard might patch this hole once they read this and fix the forums.
While you're here, it would be a nice idea to download the Firefox extension BNet Squelcher: http://bnsq.lordaeron.org
*shameless plug*
@Blizzard: 12.129.242.36 lacks read/write access to the forum's session ID system. By the way, I love the "Invalid Access" error that makes me resort to the hosts file. Anyways, please keep this open in case it happens again.
It doesn't say BAD PASSWORD or BAD LOGIN, it says nothing, except :
So I don't know whats the problem, it just doesn't log me in, nothing happens.
Anyone know whats the problem ?
Do the same thing with the second account. =/
I went to the diablo 3 forum, and I was logged out. I tried to connected, nope didn't work.
So I went back to tech support forum to post it but I was logged out too. Tried logging back in but this time it didn't work.
Only worked once. That's really wierd.
I tried again this morning and same results, can't log in.
