hey all. i am wondering if anyone knows what first robotics is?
well if you dont know what it is, its a high school robotics competition. a high school gets parts and builds a robot to do a special job. (no this is not battle bots sadly)
for instance the last competition was something about shooting a ball into a circle thats 5 feet in radius. and its 10 feet up and for extra points you need to make it up a ramp at a 15 degree angle.
so that was one of the competitions like 2 years ago. we get to build the whole robot ourselves. do all the programming for the controls of the robot design it and basically everything.
i really hope it is fun and isnt a bust. we dont know what the competition is until january 3rd.
I'm in that. Our particular club is really funny, though. Everyone in there is an oddball one way or the other, and we have a very bad meeting attendance record, lol. Our president is getting seriously pissed at everyone.
Overdrive was pretty cool, personally. We went to a mini competition recently at a nearby high school, with VEX robots. The funny thing was our president decided to assign the mini competition as practice to our new club members. They had no clue what VEX was or anything... so they barely made a rabbit... and, the funny thing, they ended up 3rd at the competition. The president was sorta mad because he really had no leverage to blame them. So he ended up blaming all the new people who didn't attend the competition...
Our team actually began in 2007, and I joined last year. And our team name is 2007 (Robots of the Round Table).
I'm mostly an assistant/developer of intermediate things (I built the overpass last year to simulate the overdrive's overpass, for instance)/scout. I also bug our president a lot because it's fun.
oh cool equinox and ya jazz i think i remember that thread. ya this is our first year. and i am like the website designer for the team at out school. and programmer. which looks like its going ot be a pain in the ass. ugh. lol.
We have the coolest programmer in the nation, though... I think we're the only robot at Peachtree Regional who had proper autonomous mode that worked because of that. Nobody seems to like that thing.
We have basically a strong programmer and a couple nice "construction" people. But we had big issues with design, our design was horrible, even though it was well made... As our president said "no ropes next year as a lifting mechanism". Ropes didn't work out, even though they did meet our theme LOL.
lol the team this year for my school. like they asked questions about flamethowers and shit like that. lol. but i think we have a couple decent people that will do stuff
Our team is really dorky, the kids go to mcdonalds and play dungeons and dragons......
Our team kinda wanted to be that. But our president is on a crusade against dorkiness. So, we end up with a lot of weird people who are close to dorks but aren't dorks that much... nobody seems to play WoW, but we do have a huge SW fan, a Monty Python fan, a football fan (well, like 4), and they are all republicans (president's influence, again) and we also have a few awesome girls who migrated from Science Olympiad...

My team won the chairsman, last year i think?
We got into the last tourney at our regional but lost there...
I'm really excited for this year because last year I joined basically in the middle, somewhere around the beginning of second semester, and I was seriously behind times. So this year is the first time I can attend an actual kickoff. Woot!
