*BTW i was apparently completely wrong about the range you have to be to punch through un hardened knights armour with a longbow. its 20-30 metres. so the bow of a samurai simply would have no plausible use against a knight.
"Sword edges could not penetrate even relatively thin plate (as little as 1 mm). Also, although arrows shot from bows, crossbows and early firearms could occasionally pierce plate especially at close range, later improvements in the steel forging techniques and armour design made even this line of attack increasingly difficult. By its apex, hardened steel plate was almost impregnable on the battlefield. Knights were instead increasingly felled by polearms such as the halberd and blunt weapons such as maces or war hammers that could send concussive force through the plate armour resulting in injuries such as broken bones, organ haemorrhage and/or head trauma. Another tactic was to attempt to strike through the gaps between the armour pieces, using daggers, spears and spear points to attack the man-at-arms' eyes or joints."
"Contrary to common misconceptions, a well-made suit of medieval 'battle' armour (as opposed to the primarily ceremonial 'parade' and 'tournament' armour popular with kings and nobility of later years) hindered its wearer no more than the equipment carried by soldiers today. It should be remembered that an armoured knight would be trained to wear armour from his teens, and would likely develop the technique and endurance needed to comfortably run, crawl, climb ladders, as well as mount and dismount his horse without recourse to a crane (a myth probably originating from an English music hall comedy of the 1830s, and popularised in Mark Twain's A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur's Court). A full suit of medieval plate is thought to have weighed little more than 60 lb (27 kg) on average, considerably lighter than the equipment often carried by the elite of today's armies. (For example, SAS patrols have been known to carry equipment weighing well over 200 lb (91 kg) for many miles"
as i already quoted in the other thread.
and upper-class Japanese warriors (bushi or samurai) never used a shield since both hands were needed for the bow, spear or sword.
and from your very own source
"The highly developed weight distribution that became possible with the era of Articulated Plate was simply amazing. A warrior clad in a suit of properly made Articulated Plate would have been able to do cartwheels in his armour. Each plate balanced perfectly to a part of his body. This effectively dispels the myth of knights in armour falling off their horses and not being able to stand up. Such stories must have developed from certain examples of Tournament Plate Armour. Tournament Plate was specially designed to take the incredible impacts of jousting, so that it was very, very heavy."
also i cannot find your quote about japanese vs european mail
*edit k i found it but also this which followed it- "Of course, it's not really fair to compare Europe to Japan, as the fighting styles of each evolved on completely different tangents. European armour needed to be heavier to deal with the bigger, crushing weapons common in their battles, even if heat exhaustion from the thicker, less breathable armour was common. Japanese combat techniques used lighter, faster weapons and thusly mobility was more of a concern."
but we arent discusing chain mail we are discussing plate armour and its superiority to japanese samurai armour.
now look at this, look at the many gaps in the japanese armour compared to the european armour
i understand where you are coming from but both pieces of armour have there own advatages samurais are definatly faster while a knight would have protection
they both have there key points
the main thing is if they add a samurai to d3 im not buying it
not if they add a knight and call it a crusader/templar or something like that. that would be worth buying and it would be a good replacment to a a palidan
i agree both have their advantages but this entire time i just wanted to get the point across that medieval knight armour isnt some clunky barbaric armour. it was relatively light, and one could be quite agile in it.
for plate armour- "While it looks heavy, a full plate armour set could be as light as only 20 kg (45 pounds) if well made of tempered steel"
for samurai armour- "or Japanese samurai armor came about in the form of the yoroi during the Gempei War of 1181-1185. The weight of the yoroi was around 60lb."
*spent a good 15 minutes on google looking for the weight of samurai armour and its 60 pounds. couldnt find anything lighter.
so there we have it, you could be lighter wearing plate armour.
I would be fine either way. The samurai may not fit into the current lore, but Blizzard wouldn't put them in if they didn't fit. If there's one thing I'm sure about it's that htey won't release a crappy game.
To those of you who say you won't buy it if it a samurai, I say cut the drama. You wouldn't be here if you didn't want to play the game regardless of the classes. We all know you'll buy it and play for hours. It's just a question of how many hours...:P
You wouldn't be here if you didn't want to play the game regardless of the classes.
we dont know what the remaining classes will be
but if they released the game as is with 3 classes i would get it. i would only be the barbarian but meh. not too fond of the wizard as the laser beam looks like something out of dragon ball z, and the stopping time thing is just.... weird. if they were actually able to do that, then in pvp they would auto kill everyone. I really like the idea of the witch doctor but i hate how they look, and i hate their spells.
the stopping time thing is just.... weird. if they were actually able to do that, then in pvp they would auto kill everyone.
Imagine using stop time and teleport on a ranged person in PVP. It would destroy them. Especially with the multiplicity rune on teleport and the death beam.
how can you tweak stop time.... or slow time......
...
<_< ....
>_>....?
thats like tweaking water... water is water... i suppose you could make it not slow time as much but wtf use would that serve, might as well remove the skill entirely. which is exactly what happened with starcraft and then mothership special ability the black hole
I oppose a Samurai class per se, but have nothing against a class influenced by eastern tradition. Nor am I opposed to another close-ranged fighter. It's just something about the name "samurai" strikes me as being wrong in a setting such as Diablo. The same goes for "Witch Doctor" and "Wizard". Just doesn't seem... esoteric enough.

Its not that hard....they can test it in pvp and see how it does.....things such as the area of effect can balance it out....its total duration......etc. etc....there are many variables to tweak in a lot of skills...also your comparison to waster is ridiculous and make no sense at all man.....no offense

run away? it would be instantaneous and anything slower than that would defeat the whole purpose of it as its main use i assume is to stop ranged attacks from hitting.
area of affect? duration? even if it was 1 meter square for area of effect and lasted 5 seconds that would be sufficient time for anyone in pvp to kill any opponent. but we know the area of affect is larger and duration longer. meaning its even more unfair.
and my comparison to water was just. if you make the duration too small, and area of affect too small it becomes pointless. so its either keep it as is or take it out, there is no changing it.
k holy shit this is getting to be a chore coming back and back to this thread.
The wizard class inst Asian. Nope.
yes it is, look at her eyes and skin colour in game, she is very clearly asian. they ignored the lore and stuck an asian person in as a wizard.
anyways you keep saying things are ridiculous but you have yet to give a satisfactory explanation as to why... you completely ignored what i said, entirely.
you are starting to treat this is a race issue, and no doubt you are japanese. you said something along the lines of if the japanese had large quantities of iron they would make the same armour. that very distinctly implies that you are treating it like a battle of caucasian vs asian. sigh.... i have clearly said that we are simply comparing a knight and a samurai. and you keep pulling these weapons out of nowhere saying that if the samurai had this and that he would win. and as i said, if you insist on giving the samurai all of those weapons, the knight can use a european crossbow and win automatically. so i dont know why you keep going on about that.
anyways this will be my last post in this thread as you cannot see what is right infront of you, because you simply do not want to.

As I said before tweaking certain things in the variables of the spell or skill or whatever will be able to make it balanced. They might give it a long cooldown, a casting time, or anything else to balance it out. Theres no way there going to let it be the end all skill of pvp and yes things such as area of effect and duration and amount of slowing the spell does can easily balance it out enough for pvp so its not overpowered.
Edit: How do we know that other classes wont have similar abilities or efficient counter abilities such as a dispelling type skill? When it all comes down to it we dont know enough about the game, its mechanics, or how pvp will work to be saying right now that ZOMG THIS SKILL IS OVERPOWERED PLZ NERF yet...

Slow time slows the wizard, not the attacker... yeah I do not see a problem. Make it have a low duration, so if you want to cast it, you have to catch the moment...

Then that's some bad PvP mechanics.

We know nothing. PvP rules and MP/SP rules always must differ for balancing purposes.
