I've been a fan of The Red Paintings for a while, and then I found out they were making a music video where I live so decided I would go along on set just to see what its like (especially since I am a film student). But turns out a lot of the extras couldn't make it that day, so I had to fill in (but I'm not telling you which one is me).
Its a huge propaganda music video trying to stop whaling Japan. I'm not much of an activist, but I do agree with them because well there aren't many whales left. There are plenty of other food sources out there that aren't nearly extinct, go pick on them.
The Red Paintings aren't against all Japanese people though. They are just against the ones who are killing whales.
The music video and song is completely free, they aren't gaining any profit from it. All we want is for people to at least watch it. I know the quality isn't that great, but it looked heaps better in real life with all the flashing lights and everything. It'd look better watching it full screen in a dark room too, so you can actually tell when the lights flash.
"The Sea Shepherd Conservation Socity is one non-profit animal rights organisation that is actively involved in the protection of sea wildlife. They are currently out at sea intervening with the Japanese whaling ships with the hope of saving whales and stopping the illegal trade altogether. Their previous campaigns have cost the whaling trade millions of dollars, and their recent campaign has sucessfully prevented the death of any whales.
Ochestral art-rock band, The Red Paintings, collaborated with the Sea Shepherd to record this song the night before their ship, the 'Steve Irwin', left Australia for their latest campaign in Antarctic waters. Lyrics were written by lead singer, Trash McSweeney in conjunction with the Sea Shepherd's founder, Captain Paul Watson.

Nah, I'm wearing a mask. But I never really managed to get into any of the shots anyway. My friend Sam was the male whale on the right though (female was on the left). That was funny, because he stripped down to his underwear and had acrylic paint smeared all over him, and then wore that whale head piece. Yeah, its not a whale suit, its just their painted skin.
Holy crap, I just found out a MASSIVE piece of purposeful irony with this.
The song Whales Are Dying is based off the famous song Beds Are Burning by Australian band Midnight Oil.
The lead singer of Midnight Oil is Peter Garrett.
Peter Garrett is actually also a politician, and is currently the Australian Minister for the Environment, who is actually allowing the Japanese to kill whales in our own backyard!
Haha, they are using his own song against him! Such great irony.

Warning: don't watch it if you're epileptic!
