Charlton Heston is dead at 84. While I'm no big fan of his movies, I have many fond memories of watching The Ten Commandments and Planet of the Apes when I was younger. He had that overly dramatic acting style that you just don't see anymore. And he actually did some really funny stuff of SNL before the show became total crap. Anyway, I reckon I'll miss him.
I was never a huge fan of his movies either, but the The Ten Commandments is a special exception. I remember that my mom always let my sister and I stay up late on Easter, just so we could watch the whole movie on TV. Granted, we almost always fell asleep halfway through, but still.
I also remember loving the chariot race scene from Ben-Hur. It just seemed so epic at the time.
He was kind of an ass when he held a NRA meeting near the Columbine high school shortly after the massacre. And then again, when he held one in town after a six year old boy took his mothers gun to school and shot a girl at his school. Obviously bad parenting, but it's no reason to hold an NRA meeting.. Just isn't right. So, I really don't care that he's dead.

Been a while since I've seen that movie. Was he in it? THe only actor I can recall is Kirk Douglas.

First movie of his I saw was the made-for-tv movie Treasure Island. I love the emphasis he puts into his lines.
That lead Penguin in Madagascar is supposedly based on Charlton Heston.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Heston was the lead role, actually. You might be thinking of Spartacus; Douglas was the lead in that movie.
Like I said been a while. And Yeah that was the movie I was thinking about now that I think about it. Those movies were released fairly close to each other and the are set in similar time periods.

I often felt that Heston never took the NRA as seriously as some people thought. Even as the organizations's president, he was really more of just a paid spokesman for it, an iconic symbol of a romanticized era that the NRA wanted to associate with gun ownership. He just sort of went along for the ride.
Ive heard my dad mention him a few times but surprisingly ive never seen him in any movies
I saw this random few clips on Youtube called The Origin of Life and the host was Chalton Heston
An Ape-Slaying Actor\NRA President with Alzheimers who spoke to God

Regardless, though, he'll be missed.

But seriously, Planet of the Apes and Soylent Green are Sci-Fi classics.
