Good afternoon everyone. It’s the new guy here again. I hope everyone is doing well. I wanted to make post to see everyone’s favorite literary segments, sound bites or story sections from the Diablo universe. My personal favorite would have to be the story from the D1 instruction manual; the Overlord biography. The segment about Inarius being captures and tortured with hooks and chains and damned to a cathedral of mirrors was quite striking to me. I would love to hear about everyone else’s favorites.
im interested in anything to do with the lore of the games.
think i might just see if my local store can order in the Sin War books, i really need to read them.

-Humankind cannot gain anything without first giving something in return. To obtain, something of equal value must be lost. That is alchemy's First Law of Equivalent Exchange. In those days, we really believed that to be the world's one, and only, truth.
Damn it, i live in New Zealand and i dont even think any Diablo books even get shipped out into my country...
Maybe i should just order them off the internet, but then i would need a credit card...
Wasnt Inarius's eyelids ripped off so he had to stare at his own disfigured face for all eternity? I should try and draw that
When it comes to ingame NPC speeches...
Tyrael was a fool to have trusted me!
You see, it was I who told Diablo and his Brothers about the Soulstones and how to corrupt them. It was I who helped the Prime Evils mastermind their own exile to your world.
The plan we set in motion so long ago cannot be stopped by any mortal agency. Hell, itself, is poised to spill forth into your world like a tidal wave of blood and nightmares.
yes, we NZ'ers get sooo stinged when it comes to things like books, movies, tv series, games, etc. we always get them bloody late.
hopefully i can order it through Mark One.

Quite so, friend. Elfen and I have had a few conversations about how interesting the story of Inarius and the Overlords are. It's very interesting how ultimately Inarius had underestimated the Prime Evils, especially Mephisto. I thought the story of Inarius was a testament to Mephisto's true power. Cause sometimes throughout the games, the power of the Prime Evils seem relatively weak compared to the combined power of the High Heavens. Yet, the High Heavens never seem strongly united, and furthermore, Inarius was a rebel angel who conspired against both Heaven and Hell. And what of his followers?
After assaulting one of Mephisto's temples, Mephisto himself supposedly appears and captures them as well as Inarius himself. After Inarius was tortured, mutilated, then chained within his chamber of mirrors, his followers were transformed into mimicking images of the deformed Inarius. And they became Hell's cruelest taskmasters.
I always found it significant that the Overlords were the most verbal monsters. From the Butcher, to the Smith, to the Armorer. They seem to retain a small aspect of their humanity in the form of their intelligence and wit. But that is all that seemingly remains.
The overlords are quite interesting indeed, though my fave thing regarding npc speech would be that of many of the less important Npcs
one of my fave is Qual-Kehk, he actually has some speech regarding that of Larzuk (act 5 armorer) and his projects regarind gunpowder and metal tubings (much like that of a gun) Now dont get me wrong i as well as many others do NOT want guns in the world of diablo but i think these small in game npc speech hold some credibility as to what to expect in terms of the future of the diablo world
I never knew you came from New-Zealand Elfen Lied, may i be so bold as to ask which part of NZ?
I am of the Shire folk. with its lush green fields and pastures, and small towns, blueish green streams and rivers its a peaceful place. Yes the Shire (Waikato) is where i call home.
I live about 45 minutes from Bag End, if i remember correctly, my firends uncle (probably more like his father's second cousin twice removed or something be he calls him uncle) owns the land Bag End is on, yet ive never actually been there, too many tourists.

and dont forget about his idea to borrow 20 of Malah's finest sheepskins and fill them with hot air and float above the battlefields.

You may even recall that Larzuk claimed everyone should wash their hands before they eat to avoid getting sick. I think it was Nihlathak who talked about that.
always good to talk/gossip with the NPCs in the game, you can pick up a few things about the characters and the world they live in.
the game might get boring is if was just move from one fight to the next all the time.

I still think that a lot of the gossip and speeches are a little better in D1. Especially the ones that you got from the tomes you found in the dungeons. I loved those. It's a pity that you only got 1 in D2 for the tower quest in act 1. I would have loved a few more.

Yeah, that's what D2 lacked was just tomes you could find and learn lots of great information about the world you were in. But the gossip itself in the first Diablo was kind of boring cause they literally only gossiped about the other NPCs.
I loved the books in D1, The told you so much about the lore of Sanctuary, and even the 4 or so "quest" books were cool too.
I can see what you see not
vision milky then eyes rot
when you turn they will be gone
whispering their hidden song
then you see what cannot be
shadows move where light should be
out of darkness, out of mind
cast down into the halls of the blind.
and so locked beyond the gateway of blood and passed the hall of fire, Valour awaits for the hero of light to awaken.
The armories of Hell are home to the Warlord of Blood. In his wake lay the mutilated bodies of thousands. Angels and man alike have been cut down to fulfil his endless sacrifices to the dark ones who scream for one thing - blood. Beyond the Hall of Heroes lies the Chamber of Bone. Eternal death awaits any who would seek to steal the treasures secured within this room. So speaks the Lord of Terror, and so it is written.

It was funny to me when the Sorcerer read the books cause he sounded so extremely passionate in his words and he carefully enunciated every syllable.
he did that each time you entered a new area for the first time.
"it is HOT... down here"
I loved the Warrior's voice, very masculine.
i love it when the warrior kills Zhar the mad. - "im sorry did break your concertration"
or Garbad the Weak - "Im not impressed"
or the Warlord of Blood - "Your madness ends here betrayer!!"

Ah, one of my favorite quests...and themes for the novels. "The Legacy of Blood" is still one of my favorite books. I fell in love with the story almost instantly. It is because of this book that I really would not mind Diablo becoming an MMO. I can just imagine being able to search Bartuk's barial site and battleing his specter or undead corpse and finally stealing his armor. Ah, that blood red armor. I know a lot of people don't want it to be one, but I will take either a hack and slash or and mmo. That's just my opinion.
go do it, then we should try get a tcp/ip game going. cracked versions i think work on tcp/ip as you dont go thru battle.net
