Anyone else really looking forward to this?
I sure am, it will probably keep me entertained for quite some time.
What I've seen from this game looks really awesome, I'm sure the game will take a lot of time to finish and will be full of awesome dialogue, dungeons, quests, side quests, items and basically everything that makes a RPG great.
And! the release date is coming closer! (november 3rd or 6th, depending on where you live)
wasn't there a thread on this or am i jus thinking of some other forums i visited?
anyway,
i used to be very excited about this when it was first announced then the more they revealed about it, the less excited i became.
reasons,
1 - for consoles too, which means that it would be dumbed down, the controls would suck (looking at past examples)
2 - over promotion of the blood and sex, which means that's it's target audience are virgins and little kids, who think that having so much needless blood is cool, that getting to have sex with pixels is awesome
3 - hyping the graphics which is really nothing to crow about and the 3D models just look dead
4 - EA
could be good. looking forward to it. but I won't buy it, I don't support EA. hate me for it but I don't care
must buy a new rig for it though.
is it going to be similar to previous Bioware games, in the sense that you can pause in the middle of fights?
Yeah you will be able to pause in the middle of fights.
I don't really care about EA, I'll buy it anyway.
@ Valtonis
I looked for it but couldn't find one, might have missed it though...
Or they were very old.
Anyway yeah, I'm not going to play this on a console, because I have a feeling the controls will indeed be sucky/limited.
Could be proven wrong though but it would be sort of obvious because of the lack of mappable buttons.
Still on the pc it will be okay and not dumbed down because the console versions aren't exact ports from the PC version (because of the controls)
I haven't seen any over promotion of blood or sex, just the developers saying it will probably be rated M, because of the existence of both.
Even if the gore can be a little over the top, I won't be bothered enough by it to not play this.
Sex and nudity won't play a huge role in this game either, and you can probably avoid it all together if you choose to.
On the graphics part I agree, it's nothing special, just okay.
But I don't really care about the graphics as long as the game is fun.
Anyway, I could very well be wrong and you could very well be right.
I haven't really checked out all the details on this game.
Even so, I will still check this game out.
If it makes me care about the characters the way BGII did, I will probably buy it.
The over use of violence and sex isn't needed. This isn't GTA.
Memorable characters, great compelling story, intrigue, complexity, and possibly getting to fight a dragon or too. That's mostly what I go for.

About the sex thing in dragon age.
This was an interesting read, I think people have the idea of a full blown porn fiasco to happen in Dragon Age, but I think there won't even be full nudity, just subtle scenes.
There was controversy over the sex scenes in Mass Effect, and now there are some in Dragon Age. It's common in films, but do videogames need scenes of this nature to portray a story?
Zeschuk: I don't think they need to have them, I think that in certain types of games it makes sense to have them. It's interesting because I think the Mass Effect thing was completely over-blown.
There wasn't even really nudity; it was like the side of a leg. I think some of the press took huge advantage of the situation. The reality was that it was the kind of stuff you'd see on evening television.
That said, I think from our perspective we want to reflect real human relationships. If you're trying to have a relationship with a character we want to reflect that and the impact of the connection with that character. And if that involves some sort of intimate scenes, we want to provide those for the player.
It's based on the fact that this is a sophisticated mature experience. The same way that a kid's anime or cartoon will have a different style of content in it than a really serious drama, this is like a serious drama. Really what we're going for in all cases is emotional engagement, some kind of impact.
I think that's not to say we should overdo it, but very simply we want to say: 'Here's a character, we want this to happen. How can we make this impactful?' Whatever comes from that, we evaluate it and put it in the game if it makes sense.
A: Yes. One of staples of BioWare stories is romance, which you can choose to pursue or not. You might find a potential love interest that you can choose to develop a relationship with, but we can't say any more than that without giving away spoilers. As always, we approach romance plots tastefully and maturely.
In any case though, I guess we'll have to wait and see.
well, of course they are gonna say that.
Bladur's Gate didn't suffer from not having any sex.
are they implying that games without sex don't have a mature relationship
and isn't it immature to go into a relationship just for sex or that it must occur for it to be a "true" relationship?
well, of course they are gonna say that.

They didn't say that, they just say it is possible if the player chooses to, and that it is up to him/her how far they are willing to take it.
Which in my opinion adds to the realism.
I myself probably won't get settled down with some medieval skank in the game, because I'm not interested in that, but I can imagine some players would be.
I'm worried about the sex/violence part... games who advertise that too much commonly do not do well...
Unless said game is a variation of Grand Theft Auto.
Bladur's Gate didn't suffer from not having any sex.
Well not any over the top in your face sex.
Sex came mostly in the form of a "rest" screen. Even in BG1. Course back then you were reserved to choose from between the whore in this town, and the whore in that town. Not the female companion you just killed a dragon with. Yeah sorry female gamers who made female characters, you only got the one choice. Anomen, whereas males got to choose from 3.
And in BGII it was more often than not a reward for time spend getting to know the person (Jaheira, Aerie, Viconia or Anomen). You could always decide to sleep with the local bar whore if you wanted to, but if you were in a relationship already it would have a dramatic effect on it.
That was how sex was always presented in Baldur's Gate. Cause and Effect. Sleeping with Aerie resulted in her having a baby, which she would (in typical Aerie fashion) insessently whine about.
Viconia would remain uncompromisably bitchy the next morning if you slept with her. And how her only purpose is to be an object of lust, and hopefully all those exhurstions last night were enough to please one of you (You or her).
Never could stand Jaheira, so never got around to getting her in the sack.

And if you choose to do that, then you should be rewarded as well in some way, maybe, possibly. Sex probably won't net you any real reward anyways, but choosing not to should be an equally viable option. Otherwise people would probably just sleep with the first romancable tart that come along simply to score whatever meager reward it offered. Without a care for what the impact it will have of the female (or male in question).

another thing that bugs me about this so-called realistic relationship is that they are always monogamous.
what about having a harem or cheating?
although seriously i prefer not to have these so-called relationships interrupt my saving the world.
if i want to have sex in a video game i'd go play some japanese hentai games
if i want to have a relationship with pixels i'd go play Sims
I've been waiting for this game since it was first announced. Greatly enjoyed Mass Effect and am also waiting for Mass Effect 2. Yes, they are trying to draw in the "horny" teenagers with the sex and violence. But I do not think that will hinder the game.
I also think that they took this approach with the game, making sure everyone knew that there was sex, violence, etc. because of the Fox News fiasco with Mass Effect.

you could cheat in BGII. Infact Viconia expect it of you at one point.

Looking forward to this game. Mass Effect, KotOR 1 and 2 were all amazing games. Bioware hasn't disappointed me yet, and I don't expect to be with Dragon Age.

So you can just choose not to in Dragon Age.
I really don't see the problem you have with this game...
Just because it's possible you feel like you have to do it?
If one of your companions tries to sex you up you can just beat some sense into them and say you have more important matters at hand i.e. saving the world etc. and go on doing that.
They keep saying that this is going to be the "spiritual succesor to the baldurs gate games" but i highly doubt it will plus its not even based in faerun so were gonna be seeing some random world that they made so that right there makes the game unfamiliar and not like the baldurs gate games at all. Im not saying that its going to fail but its just not gonna succed the baldurs gate series. The only thing that can do that is remake of the baldurs gate games which i doubt will happen.
Yea there were some parts in bg1 and bg2 were you could have sex but if you were in a romance it would basically end the romance. But i think viconia was fine with it, too bad she dies at the end of the romance.

like some people have said BG has sex too but they never advertised the game around it.
the why DA does it, it seems that the sex is a huge part of the game and they are trying to get the demographics that is into that kind of crappy sex scenes to buy the game

Don't bother about it, it is just my old people syndrome kicking in.

i actually started threads on it in 2 of the forums, hyping it
