lol one of my best memories was when me and my friend went to orlando (florida) for a week for spring break and one night we decided to go through the hastle of setting up diablo on the laptop and ended up playing for the entire night getting 2 lvl 70 chars, one bowzone with full mavs(got them the same night) and a barb with full ik to start them off. not bad for one nights work lol. naw i like the leveling like that. like tht was HARDCORE leveling, but u have the option to slow down the process and have fun with the story

I cant have fun with the story because people like me have the badluck and join act 1 games and there on act 5... plus if i read the diablo story i might get scared lol still am scared of videos between acts lol, But most of the game is fun cept when you cant find the right games
lol nice! naw idono, i just hate how slow leveling is in wow, so with diablo2 you kinda had the option to speed it up or slow it down and run the game solo on cruise control for cool kids

The game has been out long enough so that everyone knows all the secrets, the first time you played it took you forever to level, now you just know all the shortcuts. Just try uber leveling after a Grush, HA!

Ive built some characters where ive gone through the whole game. Got all the way points and everything. So you dont have to level that fast. I can have my friends glitch rush me and I can get to lvl 70 in hours if i wanted to.
How does one start completely from scratch with a new character, with no items other than what you find in-game, and gain enough xp to reach the end, without clearing every region of an act, and completing every quest? I guess, even though I've played the Diablo games for years, since they were first released, that I've been far too casual a player to pick up on the shortcuts, because it seems that I'm still taking the "long road", and not getting anywhere fast.
It's obvious that, by asking such a noob question, I do not possess a complete understanding of game-play; which I attribute to my lack of multi-player exposure (and that is entirely my own fault).
I realize that I need to get into multi-player games in order to grow to full potential, but from what I've read here in the forums on this site, and at other fan sites over the years, this stuff is so basic and obvious to you folks by now that I don't sense a great deal of patience being had for those with vastly less experience. So I'm hesitant to "jump in" until I increase my knowledge a little more.
Since it seems that this knowledge, at this point -- eight years in, is pretty much second-nature to just about everyone who still plays this game... is there a repository somewhere which contains these "secret shortcuts" of leveling-up, so that I don't pester anyone with, what I will dub as, "stoopid noob" questions?
I wonder how badly I'm going to regret asking this?

Starting from scratch can be a pain, even moreso when you don't really know anyone else on battle.net. The first step that most people take when starting on multiplayer is to make a character specifically for Magic Find, which allows that person to build up some wealth for trade or for other characters.
The most common builds to accomplish that goal are a Summon Necromancer and a Meteor/Frozen Orb/Fireball Sorceress. The beauty of these two characters is that they aren't terribly item-dependant, so a player is able to go through the game with relative ease, using only what they find.
Of course, if you already know someone on battle.net, chances are that you won't need to bother with a Magic Find character.

I understand what you mean. I never spent much time on single player, but I spent a large amount of time playing solo over battle.net. When I opened my first public game, I was fortunate enough to have a very helpful, extremely patient gamer join. He answered all of my questions, no matter how silly they were ("what's that yellow X on the map?"), and rather than rush me, he took the time to show me in the ins and outs of gameplay.
There are patient people out there. It's just unfortunate that they seem to be hiding under a sea of loud-mouthed idiots.

I would hope I'm not wrong, but I'm sure people on this forum would be willing to answer any questions you may have. There are several people that will likely even help you get started on the realms, be it East or West.
Diabloii.net has a newcomer forum, made specifically for those new to the game. It seems to be a pretty safe place, and most members are quite knowledgeable about various aspects of gameplay, from monster stats to ideal areas to level.
This chart may also help you with choosing an area to gain optimal experience. It's also quite helpful for use with your mercenary, since they have a habit of falling behind in multiplayer games.

i remember when you could level 1-90 in hell cows in like 2 days, back when the wrings could let you be level 1 in hell diablo and not get damaged at all.
and when iths were around... kinda losing track of what i came to talk about but yea, its not nearly as easy as it used to be trust me.

Well, it still is fairly easy to get to level 80+ in a day, provided you were glitch rushed (and even that only takes about 15 minutes at the most). A full Chaos Sanctuary run will net you some great experience from level 1 to 20, and then 25 onward.
I find Cows to be decent for my mercenary, but that's about it. Such a shame, too; Cows is just plain fun.
Leveling fast has it's problems, naturally. You quickly find yourself in "endgame" with naught to do but MF. But leveling slow is boring as hell. You don't want to sit there for 3 hours straight and find you EXP bar hasn barely moved.
If you play the game (semi) properly, you find you level about right. That is you do every area as you come to it, kill every monster and do every quest. Not just re-run rushes and xruns, or exploit glitches.
You finish act 1 around lvl 18 act 2 around 24 act 3 28 act 4 about 30 act 5 40. Come out of Nightmare about 70, and Hell about 90. That's not too bad. Not idea for some, but 90 isn't bad. Esp. for someone who isn't all that big on ubering up their char s othey can go pk noobs.

ya like when i first played. i would only play with 2-3 people. and it took me about 3 years to get to lvl 60. lol. but it all depends. if diablo 3 has a fast lvl system then it might not be fun becasue all the noobs will be high level. but if its too slow then people will be angry becasue they want that next lvl. there has to be a balance in the force.
Thank you, very much, Requiem and Elfen (and Equinox [*note to self -- rushing is gay.* Gotcha. HaHa!]), for your insights. I appreciate the time you took.
I'm running a druid (werebear build, as per my usual wont) in solo on b.net right now.
Just hit the [Act 1] Jail lvl1 waypoint, and I'm about half-way in between clvl 15 and 16. Roughly ten hours of play over the last three days.
my friends and i were playing for a few days this week one is level 75 the other is 80 and im 70
hopefully next diablo wont be this easy
It's possible to get from 1-80 in 1 hour.
and 80-90 in another 1-2 hours.
#1, get grushed. This takes maybe 30minutes MAX.
#2, get into an uber lvl game. 1-80 in a hour MAX.
#3, 80-90 go do ancients/baal runs takes 2hours MAX.
edit: the most ive done is 1-92 in one day (i dont mean like 24hours lol. more like 4-5 hours). if u have the fg, go on d2jsp and pay someone to lvl you. I'm sure some people there can do 1-94 in a day.
