I wouldn't say that him linking to this post is any real confirmation. Interesting find though. Hard to say what it really means, but ~early December release isn't unlikely.
Agreed, I believe he should change the way he stated it though. "Diablo 3 Official Release Date 12/5/11" is rather presumptuous.
I fully agree here. I posted this as an interesting find that more confirms the fact that blizzard has been and is still shooting for a 2011 release, and likely still on track for it. It is by no means an "official release date".
Regarding a lot left to do before shipping, Most everything they need done to ship the game is already done. For all we know the game has already gone gold, its entirely possible especially with the client server arcitecture that the game will have. All the dvd has to have on it is the basic game data and art files that will be client side, all the balancing stuff can easily be updated in a launch day patch. I can't think of a single blizzard game that has launched without a launch day patch come to think of it.
Sorry to burst your bubbles, but this means absolutely nothing, and frankly, I find it slightly brazen that this is linked on the main page as a "confirmed" release date. Sigh. As you can see, the certificate was first registered in 2010. Blizzard didn't choose for the certificate to expire on 12/5/2011, that's just when they have to renew it with their SSL provider.
It's hard to say exactly what this certificate signifies as far as a release date concerns, but personally I feel it has little to do with it directly.
Since it was obviously formed around 01/07/2010, I feel 12/05/2011 was/is a target date for something. This doesn't necessarily have to be something to do with the Beta, or release. This could be a due date for a legal process, or finalization.
While it's interesting that it's around the targeted date of release, I wouldn't place any bets yet.

The Diablo 3 installer certificate is the same as the Starcraft 2 installer certificate. Valid from 1/7/2010 to 12/5/2011. Those dates mean nothing. The only differnce i see is the Signing time is differnt.
When you set these up, it is typically required to have an expiration date. The expiration date is a security measure. It allows the company to issue the cert while not giving you access indefinitely to their network.
All the 12/5 date means is that they are comfortable giving you access until 12/5. The release date could still technically be before this date if all goes well. Or, they could simply issue a new cert with a later expiration date if they want to extend Beta.
What I take out of this date is that we are one step closer to launch.
