I probably am one of the few people who actually likes the AH. I keep careful lists of what I buy to wear, and when I've outgrown it, I try selling it for 3x what I paid and often settle for 2x.
Here's how I approach the AH (BTW, I've completed the game so these prices are scaled for lvl60): I will not try to sell any rare unless I think I can make 400k gold. I list the 5 highest and 5 lowest valued items, all with buyouts --- unless I'm not sure what value to place on a pricey item, and then I just have a bid and no buyout. Whichever of the 5 lowest items does not sell, I then relist at 200k bid and 800k Buyout. For some reason, people are more likely to bid on a 200k item at the last minute if they think someone else thinks it's worth 800 --- lol. If they don't sell, they are vendored. As for the higher priced items, I list them in the morning, and if they don't sell after 7-8 hours, I cancel and relist at about 60-70% ... and so on, until they become one of the lower priced items. This way, I always have a rotating inventory. On the rare occasion, I speculate: if I see an item just listed (1 day 11-12 hours), I'll scoop it up if I think it will net 5x+ what I paid.
