Hello Diablo Fan community. I find the official forums to be kind of a joke with a lot of disrespectful users. I tend to like the environment of well tended site as I hail from Gamereplays.org for my RTS addiction. (so needless to say I am excited about Starcraft 2)
So to the point at hand. Diablo 2 is one of my favorite games so I'm also pretty excited about Diablo 3. In Diablo 2 there were a few items which were class neutral such as the exploding and poison potions so I was wondering if there was word on returning items such as this, but this time making them useful past level 2. In Diablo 2, the poison potions were useful in very low levels of your adventure, but enemies were pretty easy to defeat at that point anyway. After a certain point in the game these items become pretty moot and simply a waste of time, unless you're like me and just like to chuck 8 at a time to fill your screen with green gas for the lulz of it all.
Will items like this be making their way back into Diablo 3?
Will the be useful this time?
What are other sorts of items they could be adding in this respect?
If there was a damage scaling attribute so that those potions did 100-200 damage in normal, then 1,000-2,500 in nightmare, etc... or something to that effect, I think they would be much more useful. If there were effects that your character couldn't attain normally except through those potions, such as freezing potions or slowing potions, area effect healing (thrown) potions, or a potion/item which summoned a pet which was class neutral but friendly (all of which scaled with difficulty) then I think this breed of item would be much better received. It seems to me Diablo 3 is moving in less linear way in terms of game play, difficulty scaling and mechanics, which is good.
Yeah, the official forums are a bit of a joke..
But you've found a great forum here, got a pretty good community here.
Anywho, welcome to the forums ^^.
Back on topic.
Hmm, I dunno about those potions.
Back in D2 not many people used them, only time I ever remember using them was the same places you used them, early on to get easy kills.
So unless Blizz added that scaling feature, I doubt we'll be getting them since their usefulness will wear out pretty quickly.
Though I do hope we get to use them again, they were fun to use for a while.
I like the idea of area of effect healing potions, they could be added as a pretty decent utility item.
Same with the freezing potions, they could be used to get away from a pack of monsters, or buy time to chip away at them.
Anywho, I'm all for this idea, would like to see something like this in D3.

they used to be great potions but after they raised all the monsters hp and such they became useless after a while =3
they really need to learn to scale certain things up with the monsters when they do that xD
