Each class will have stats assigned differently. A barb would most likely get more strength, a wizard more energy(forgot the name). Each stat will get raised by a set amount each time you level so rather than everyone getting 5 stat points each level and you manually put the points into whatever you want, now blizz will distribute the stat points along all the stats. Basically you have less customization with stats but more customization with spells and abilities now to make up for that loss of customization.
why cant they just give us everything customizable?
In D2 a large % of the player base just ended up with the same stats anyway, so they made it easier for everyone to just do it for you, plus why would a barb put stat points into a stat that would get him more mana rather than getting more strength or life. It is just silly and makes alot of sense to just do it for us.

i know its not as good. but what about if they went back too diablo 1. and have it that there is a max limit for your char stats.

and please dont count that to see how many lvls it actually is its to much.
but they could do something like that. its less customisable. but still gives you a customizable thats not unlimited. thats the whole problem with d2 stats. it was unlimited.
there were some builds that required different amounts of certain stats.. now everyone will be the same 'cries'
No... everyone will not be the same for the sheer amount of passive skills, skill runes and other game mechanics which increase customization
Why is it that people see stat distribution as the only good method for customization. Its lousy for customization when 90-95% of people do the same thing

you misinterpreted what i said. i meant that stat wise everyone will be identical. and if you have the same build as someone else no doubt you will be exactly the same. where as when playing in d2 those who planned better ultimately had better stats
i know that was an attack on me but i shall answer it as if i did not see it.
Anyways, no not all hammerdins use exactly the same strength (or dexterity for that matter, as it would depend on the level they got to for max block). Depending on the quality of their gear, what level anni they have, what charms they use, etc.
And not all gear is the same for a hammerdin, i personally liked the spirit + fcr ring combo for max fcr; over the more favoured hoz and another soj or bk ring. (i always used bk instead of soj as my merc took care of my mana)
as for the other builds, gear varied quite a bit in some instances, so ultimately stats were quite diverse.

Geez, until now, I had actually forgotten about the auto stat leveling system.
are you mad now that you were reminded of it or was that just a blank statement?
It's a bad thing to people who want to be in control of everything, but to the new people, it makes it alot easier. With skills it's easy to pick because you pick what sounds cool. Does health sound cool? Does hit chance sound cool? It makes it alot easier for the new people to pick and let's us focus more on getting certain gear or planning skills correctly.

I see it as a good thing.
das is a good point, and im just worried about the longevity of the game. Screwing up stats meant re making characters = more playing. however i suppose players should want to play it over, not just because they fucked something up, but because its fun.

Because it is easier for them to design what kind of quest rewards we might get (not enough str for this item.. duh).. what items will drop at every level. They know what stats we at least have and can design the drops and rewards and whatnot according to that info.
Also the stats in D2 wasn't anything special.. basically.. as much vita as possible.
Let's say you level
what happens after?
are your stat points automatically put into it randomly?

A lack of diversity in the stat distribution in Diablo 2 - Blizzard had deemed it a broken mechanic

By planning do you mean reading cookie cutter guides of the internet or asking "how much str do I need for hammerdin" in the b.net channels?
