I have just started the game, and I'm at about level 22. I've done some reading and watched some youtube videos about diablo, but a lot of the builds and stuff online are for players who are level 70 and basically have all the items and stuff. Could someone outline to me what the journey is, from starting a new character to completing the story to getting to level 70 to... i dont know really. To getting to the end game stuff?
I would suggest starting by NOT looking at any videos
I second that. Videos are about endgame content and much of what is being shown in most videos about Diablo will not affect you or be in any way relevant to you for quite some time (usually at around paragon 200-300 you have the items available to actually choose endgame builds).
Play the story. Once you've finished the story, do some Nephalem Rifts in adventure mode. Hit level 70. Continue doing rifts, with your goal being to get enough power to go to Torment+ difficulty. Then Greater Rifts and so on, and all the other advice Helyon posted. The game is very different once you're in the "endgame" and have played a few hundred hours, but the "exploration phase" in which you're in now is the most exciting thing about Diablo. Don't spoil yourself too much :-)

Thanks all for all the advice :). I've got exams coming up soon, but once those are done I'm gonna dive really deep into this game. Thanks.
