That is my current gear/build. First off ill say that I am switching over from FO build due to the recent nerf, so I am still in the process of switching my gear and learning about disintegrate. I have also never used disintegrate on my wizard, ever. I know nothing about it. Can it even crit? All I see from it are white numbers. Is crit chance/crit damage now effectively useless for this build?
The main issue I am running into right now is running out of arcane power. Keep in mind I am on hardcore so I generally run prismatic armor which right away leaves me at a -20 arcane power disadvantage. Is there any set pieces/weapons I should be looking out for in particular?
Yes, Crit and Crit Damage works for Disintegrate. If you notice, the white damage ticks are never the same. That's because of how it works as a channel spell, it hits extremely fast (we're talking splitseconds) and since that would be wayyy too many numbers, Blizzard "combines" all the attacks done in a 0.5sec window into a single number. If there were say, 20 attacks in that window, and 15 of them are crits, the white number will be bigger than if only 3 of them were crit. So yes, it does benefits from Crit and Crit damage, and its still the best way to get your damage up.
It also benefits from attack speed, but you dont see the beam shoot faster since it'll still combines all the ticks in the same 0.5sec window but 2 attacks per second means double disintegrate damage. It also means twice the arcane power consumption. The best bet to not run out of arcane power would be to have Ressource Cost Reduction, at least on your shoulders and possibly weaon (Damage, Intellect, Socket, Ressource)
The slower your weapon, the less arcane power Disintegrate will use. Slower weapons also means higher weapon damage so your damage will the same as using an equivalent faster weapon. Also, using the Templar with Inspire is great, as well as possibly looking into 3piece Tal Rasha for the 2 arcane per second would help.
