Hello again fellow d3'ers I'd like to first introduce myself before we begin, I am ControlledAnger and you may know me from my twitch, Twitch.tv/ControlledAnger, but you can call me Tom.
This is going to be a witch doctor build that consists of the full jade harvester set and allows one to faceroll T6 with the correct gear setup.Below you will find a complete list of everything you need to know about the build and how to play it as well as equipping the correct gear for it.If you ever have any questions about the build or anything wd/any class related feel free to ask at my stream, as I am always glad to give a helping hand.
GearHelm - Quetzalcoatl (This helm will give your dots double damage, thus doubling your harvest dmg completely[Ideal Int/socket/6cc]) Chest - Jade Harvester'S Peace - (Ideal - Int/vit/3soc/15% haunt) Pants - Jade Harvester's Courage - (Ideal - Int/vit/2soc/ armor or AR) Boots- Jade Harvester's Swiftness - (Ideal - Int/vit/armor/res, or MS for more dmg through paragon points) Gloves- Jade Harvester's Mercy - (Ideal - Int/cc/cd/cdr or vit) Belt- Harrington Waistguard/Witching hour/Hwoj wrap (Chest belt for zones with lots of clickables and rift bosses, WH for zones w/o clickables, and Hwoj wrap for solo so slow things down) Shoulders- Jade Harvester's Joy - (Ideal - Int/Vit/life %/ CDR or Haunt dmg) Wrists- Strong Arm's the knockback proc does work with piranhado (Ideal - 20% cold/int/vit/cc) Amulet- Any amulet with - 20% cold/Int/cc/cd Ring 1- Royal Ring of Grandeur (Ideal - Int/cc/cd/avg dmg or AS) Ring 2- Stone of Jordan or Unity for follower combo % dmg reduction in solo play (Ideal - 20% cold/Int/cc or cd/30 elite[Just remember you have controll of your crits in many circumstances so CD is just as good as cc and better in certain cases)
Weapon- Sunkeeper (Ideal - 2100+ 27+ elite) Other options are Mad monarchs Utar's roar and Azurewrath, just keep in mind lower speed harder hitting weps deal more damage then higher speed lower raw dmg weps since haunt dmg does not increase with speed at all. Mojo- Uhkapian serpent - (Ideal- int/vit/CDR or haunt) Mercenary - Don't underestimate a good mercenary. I choose to use the Templar as he adds a good amount of tanking support. Equip him with either support gear (unity/Thunderfury/etc) or magic find gear as your follower gives you 20% of his total magic find and xp gear.
Stats to shoot for with this build as aguidelineare as follows:
700k++ dps
50% + cold % dmg
50% + dmg to elites
7m++ toughness with serpent + life link dogs (up to 40% dmg reduction)
The idea of this build is to group up, apply your dots as a crit as fast as possible, and nuke with soul harvest, then re-apply as crits to whats left over, and nuke again. In a perfect world it takes 2 to evaporate any pack. The basics - Massive crits
Basically how this set works is that it dumps (roughly) 30 seconds of your haunt and locust swarm current ticking damage instantly upon soul harvesting. So the harder your ticking, the more damage the soul harvest will do. The best way to get more damage out
of your soul harvest is to get as much % cold and elite % in your gear as possible as well as critical hit damage. The crits can get upwards of 4-5 billion with a good party setup and the perfect situations, but normal solo crits range from 500-1.5b pending on your gear.
The way the set bonus works is when you soul harvest and it pulls 30 seconds off of your current remaining duration. With the Quetz helm this is 2.5 minutes (so a total of 5 harvests, though this is impossible with the harvest's cooldown). Once you apply a crit
the crit will NOT be removed upon soul harvesting, soul sit and wait for the next harvest (this is why CDR = Pure dps output with this build and to a pretty large degree considering all the downtime).
Offense
Upon entering a pack of mobs the first thing you want to do is piranhado first, apply locust swarm once, then apply 3-5 haunts depending on the size of the pack, and finally spirit walk into the pack and soul harvest. After this whatever doesn't die, you can re-apply as crits with haunt quickly since it should
be easier to see the numbers with a few less mobs. Depending on the pack size your soul harvest might come back up instantly after harvesting, so be careful not to double harvest (tapping the harvest furiously could waste it).
***Also there are certain mobs that will drop you dot's, this is because they are doing some mechanic that drops all cc's and haunt being cold damage is a cc. Goblins are one of the biggest problems here. Your best bet for killing a goblin is to run straight up and pirana, locust, haunt once and instantly harvest when they are not in their invulnerable state, then if it does not die instantly, let it walk a bit and namelock haunt it until he begins porting away, at this time you should be able to harvest a second time to finish him.
Defense With this set your off hand is mandatory as a serpent. The level of damage reduction this gives you is effectively turning you into a tank even with low sheet ehp. With life link dogs and a 30% serpent you effectively have 40% raw damage reduction to everything. As for play style, with this build you will be able to use siphon on your harvest rune to give you a lot of life return, so its possible to turn down all life regen and loh and go for pure ehp while using this as your heal (another reason CDR is very important and not just for dps).
Paragon Points
Tree 1 - Max move speed (to get to 25%) then a combo of int/vit or all int if you are a real man.
Tree 2 - CD first, CC second, and finally cooldown reduction
Tree 3 - Res/AR/Life% in that order, your sustain will come from using soul harvest, but depending on your play style regen may work better then life %
Tree 4- Area damage first, resource cost second, the rest is lulz (loh doesnt proc well at all with the skills used)
Video of exactly how to play this build. This was not a timed or speed run, just a straight up recording of one random run to give you an idea.
Why does no one understand how Quetzalcoatl works? (Unless it's bugged and I'm mistaken, please let me know).
Assuming it works correctly, all Quetzalcoatl does is double the RATE at which your DoTs tick. It doubles your damage per second but also halves the duration. Since Soul Harvest consumes all your remaining DoT, Quetzal does absolutely zero.
EDIT: Found a post that explains it, never mind. The Jade Harvester text is really bad, apparently.
I'm so close to being able to play with this build it's almost stressful.
I think I have most of the things off the list in terms of Pieces, but I defs don't have the ideal rolls on them
4/5 pieces of Jade, I just need the boots now.....uhg
Quetz Helm - Trying to find a better one, current one I have to choose between socket and CC
Sunkeeper- not quite 2100, but over 2000 and 28% elite, Also have Azurewrath with roughly the same average damage as the keeper and 20% cold with socket and int.
Video is not working on mobilephones. Maybe you have to enable it?
Nice guide but i havent got one jade set jet. After over 100hours and no sunkeeper. Instead i got 3 thunderfurys and a shitty shard of hate. Horraay -.-
I'm still new andgot a stupid question...the WD's haunt skill and locust swarm skill cannot be critical hit, and the video also show that the whole fight it does not proc any yellow damage (critical hit). and why your gear still get critical chance and critical damage?

Dots can crit and scale with chd. And what comes for yellow dmg, its bug.

To Put it simply: With creeping death your dots last forever(ish), when you Soul Harvest, you deal (I believe) a max of 30 dot ticks worth of damage, therefore Quetzelcoatl helm doubles the damage you do through Soul Harvest using the Jade set. Also doubles dot ticks in general, so you gain 2x the damage compared to what you would do without the helm.
Unrelated, finally got a sexy OH for Jade http://imgur.com/oVNL1Iu Somebody gave it to me in a WD lootshare group since they only played pets.
I just have a perfect cold SoJ, so while not using Unity, Serpent OH provides good utility. I suppose if I wanted to run Horrify over Zombie Dogs, I could get the Thing of the Deep for more mana/regen but I haven't had issues with either since I run the regen Spirit Walk rune.
Quote from dragonfroid With Horrify, I choose the rune which give me 100% armor, this give great survivability instead of Zombie dogs. (sorry for my english i'm french)
I'm still iffy about Horrify. Armor is on diminishing returns whereas the zombie dogs isn't and yields practically 40% damage redirection with a 100% uptime.
Armor / Reduction : 6,172 armor with 63.81% dmg reduction Armor / Reduction w/ Horrify proc : 11,337 armor with 76.41% dmg reduction Note: I assume the armor doesn't math perfectly since I paragon into %armor and the rune only double the base armor.
I do not gear towards much bonus armor, but even if I did, this ability/rune would still only be worth about 15% dmg reduction more than what I have currently and I would lose about 40% dmg redirection through Zombie Dogs(Life Link) + Serpent. As far as survivability goes, the Horrify rune seems to yield only 5% more dmg reduction than just the Zombie Dogs rune, but when you consider the Serpent OH, the difference is a matter of up to ~25% more mitigation in favor of Dogs + Serpent OH. Thoughts?
Can someone tell how Creeping Death works with Piranhas? How it can infinitely amplify the damage if it lasts for 8 seconds?
The right way to harvest is: Piranhas, Locust, Haunt, wait till Piranhas ends, Soul Harvest?

i've thought about this as well before, ( i don't main WD), and it seems to me that it's a bug.
but that's just my perspective and since the devs don't see it that way then....more power to WDs
Thanks for the info Drez. Though I guess the real thanks should go to my original post + Cunningham's Law
I still don't have a decent frog OH to use but I've the cdr to maintain 100% uptime on the Horrify buff for when I find one. That being said I still almost never run into an issue where I can't refresh my dogs after they take a good bit of damage unless I have a very unfortunate death right after I summon them the first time.

S6: Supp Monk / Supp WD / HT WD
1. how do you find the changes of DoT spell in 2.05 patch? is it a buff or nerf?
2. can i have a look at your defensive stat sheet? wanted to know what AR and armor to go for.
3. i have a poorly rolled Qualtz helm in which, i'll have to choose between socket and CC, which stat u'll prefer?
Thanks.
