You are down in a dungeon and have explored about 1/3 of it, when you find the exit to level 2 or boss level. But, you still want to farm, I mean explore, the other 2/3rds of the dungeon before going to the next level.
So you back track, search the remaining parts of the dungeon, find a chest or two, etc. etc. But now, you are miles away from the exit, and have to walk through an empty dungeon just to get there.
What I think would be cool, is if you had a pair of runes, or stones, or jewels or something. You could drop one at the exit point in the dungeon, and then when you are ready to return there, you click on the matching pair. Once teleported, they would both either return to your pack, or could be a 1-use type item, and you would have to find/buy more.
There would of course have to be some rules limiting their use to just dungeons. So maybe they would work like this:
1. They only work in dungeons, and when you leave a dungeon, if you have dropped 1-half of the pair, it returns to your pack.
2. Can't be used in town, or to teleport between dungeons (as per rule 1).
3. It would require 3-4 seconds to cast the spell, just as with the current teleport to town spell. This way you couldn't use them to get out of a tight spot.
In my opinion, it would take the boring parts out of the game.
Thanks guys, I totally agree! My example was just about finding an exit, but any back tracking through an already cleared area just to check out that unexplored hallway is annoying. Especially when you're hoping for a nice fat chest, or rares, and only find a dead body with 7 gold. Then you have to trapes all the way back.
I know there are a lot of suggestions floating about in regards to gold find, spells and such. But I think a lot of them (being very general here) would make the game too easy. I like the challenge, just not the boring walking where I've already been bit. It would mean more time playing the game, IMHO.
I actually played an RPG back in the day that did exactly this.
You could drop something on the ground, and click on the one in your inventory later on to return to that spot, it was brilliant.
I played a MMORPG some years ago that had runes. You could use a spell to mark a rune, and then return to the exact point where you marked it at by casting another spell. But as Diablo uses runes for skills, I thought maybe something else.
And in fact, sacridoc's idea of a 'fork in the road'. What if when you killed some monsters (maybe the hell dogs, or whatever they are called), you get to collect a 'wishbone'. Just like you'd get out of a turkey. Why a wishbone? One, you can make a wish on it, and two, it resembles a fork in the road.
So, you could cast a spell on the wishbone, and then when you break it, you are transported back to where you cast it. As long as you are still in the dungeon or section of the map where it was cast. If you cast a spell on the wishbone, then leave that part of the map, the spell is released from the wishbone so it can be used again in another area.
Just thinking off the top of my head here, but I think anything that could improve this part of the game would improve game play.

What do you think?
It's the fact that the whole game is based on 1) Locating Champs. 2) Killing Champs.
So you often end up in a situation where there's a fork in the road, you go one way, no champs... then you backtrack which is annoying.
The opposite is when you find 2 champs in very close proximity.
