From what I understand, Australia, NZ and general SEA will join US on the US server *by default*. But an Asia server does exist. Do Australia, NZ and general SEA get to connect to the Asia server too? Is it the one located in Singapore?
US Server: US, Australia, NZ, general SEA
Asia Server: Korea (?), China (?), Taiwan (?)
i'm not 100% sure, but i'm over in Aus, and i'd much prefer to play on a US server as opposed to one filled with people not able to speak english. Unless they bought up Australian servers, which they should! Hopefully we'll be thrown in the US servers.

You can connect to any region, but depending on where you buy the game - you'll be stuck to that region's RMAH. So if you purchase US copy you'll only able to to access the US RMAH. You can play in Asia, but only with the gold AH.
My thought process is that depending on what region you've set up your account to be in - that will be the region that you'll receive as your primary region, which will include access to the RMAH. And if Singapore is in SEA... well, you're going to the US servers.
If I'm wrong people are free to correct me.
If you purchase a physical copy from Asia then you'll obviously be defaulted to the Asian region. But purchasing another digital copy will not do you any good for 2 reasons:
1. You'll still be considered in Singapore.
2. You can't have 2 Diablo 3 licences on one account.
Something I've not thought about is if you change your country in your Battle.net settings. I can't promise anything though. Will try and research it for you.

Can't ask this question on battle.net forum even though i've a closed beta account. Apparently cos my WOW account has lapsed for ages.

As I imagined your address dictates your region. No idea though on changing your address...
