Just wondering what people are planning to use their gold for when the game is released. My initial thought, since I'm a huge pack rat, is get get those Shared Stash slots as fast as possible. But, I'll definitely want to split some off for Artisan training, which will definitely add up fast.
Edit: First attempt at making a poll - didn't mean to make the who voted part public, and not sure how to edit it now!
The blacksmith is a decent tool for gearing early on, specially if you're salvaging plenty of items.
I prefer the Auction House for its sheer potential though. I've spent something like 7k on the Auction House today and my mediocre lvl 7 Monk went from something like 25 dps to 48.
To me, selling "average" items that you find for "below average" prices is a great source of income (everyone's selling that 14 dps dagger for 5k, do it for 1k and you've got a guaranteed sale, whereas salvaging it would give you a net gain of around 100-120 gold).
It feels amazing to get lucky and find something people don't value for like 500 or 1k gold, or finding armors with specific stats (like +10 dex) but due to their lower armor stats (which is sometimes overvalued) or because they don't have 2% magic find.
I didn't vote because mine is going to be used for a few things. I want to level up my artisans of course, but I won't level them so much that the gear they can make is way over my level. So I'll only be leveling them up as I level up. I also want to buy stash space as I am a gear collector and I want to throw a bunch of stuff in there for alts. I will also spend some gold on stuff from a vendor is a really nice item shows up (on beta I found some some really nice 2 - 4 damage/5% attack speed rings that increase DPS by 10 each ).
Damn all of y'alls (and the internet in general) sound logic! When I read someone's reasons for saving for the AH, I'm like, "that sounds like a great idea! I'll do that instead." Then someone else comes along, and I'm convinced theirs is a better option.
I see the stash investment as a very expensive one that doesn't give many immediate gains (if any).
In less than 5 minutes you can create 2-3 characters (and get them to the shared stash) and have a huge combined inventory to save items for other classes, or just to "archive" your old/alternative gear. It can be annoying putting 4-5 items on the shared stash, transfer them to an alternate's inventory, then going back. But considering how much gold I'll be able to save early on, I think I'll do it anyways. This, obviously, only in the first couple hours
I don't wanna spend gold in the AH, imo that's just as "bad" as using real money as a big part of the fun in Diablo is actually fighting for your loot.
I understand. It's just that I probably won't have many hours to play the game, so I gotta make the absolute most out of the time I have. And comparing the costs of the blacksmith and the auction house's items, the AH feels a lot better early on.
In my first run in the current patch, I played for nearly 20 minutes without finding a good weapon (had a 7 dps club), until that point I was forced to attack each enemy (weaklings) 3 times to kill them. As soon as I got a 12-14 dps Sabre from the AH for like 1k gold (and it took me like 2 minutes to do it), I was blowing higher level mobs in 1 hit. That's a lot of saved time in the long run. Checking the AH and finding a "good deal" feels amazing.
In my 2nd character/run, I had nearly 12k gold saved up. A quick trip to the AH and boom, I was starting with two 10 dps daggers, and had another 2 with 15 dps already set for lvl 3 (or 5, can't remember) onwards; as well as some +mainstats defensive gear. So for something like 5k-6k gold I cut my run time to the SK from 1 hour (I explore as much as possible) to 35-40 minutes, and that will make a big difference to me.
I voted Artisans as I believe that will be the quickest way to progress item-wise up to Inferno. It's something that I would say that I'll be putting about 80% of my gold into over the course of leveling up my first time through.
I do not plan on spending my gold on shared stash space until I have run out of room on my alts. All 9 other alts. I think that will take quite a bit of time given that most items will be salvaged or sold in the AH. All the other options make up the other 20% of my gold budget.
Thing is the beta is very limited. We'll be getting better and better items as we progress in the game and it's very much a waste of gold to use it on early game items. I'd rather upgrade my artisans and make the items i need instead of buying. Would even be able to sell such items on the AH for gold aswell. It's not like I plan to sell on the RMAH early on, either.

I'm definitely going to create a character of each class and get them to the stash, but if it becomes a bit annoying because I'm running out of stash space quickly (14 slots isn't a lot :/) and having to log over and break up the fun, then I might drop a bit of cash so I don't have to do that as often. I can't see it being a huge problem though since I won't be throwing every thing I find in the stash, but at least get some gear for my alts so they don't feel so naked to start. In the long run I'd love to have a huge stash so I can be a huge pack rat.

True. I guess I'm just very desperate to progress as quickly as possible, and being well geared will hopefuly boost progression speed to the point I don't mind spending all my gold on early game items (higher difficulties should probably drop much bigger stacks of gold in the end anyways, which is my first-week goal reaching Nightmare/Hell).
I'd rather upgrade my artisans and make the items i need instead of buying.
Yeah, and also gold spent in the artisans isn't wasted (it's not like you "lose" it). I'll probably realize I should've upped them earlier and bash my head against the wall later on.
Plus, it's also good to not rely on the randomness of the AH. It's possible that when you check it, there's not a single good deal, and you end up spending a ton of gold for useless junk. The artisan is a lot more flexible (if you're lacking a good Boot, you craft that, if it's an armor, you craft that).
Crafting is quite random too, but at least you get to try to get your stats and if you get for other classes you can always sell them for gold. Keep the economy flowing, you know!

Sell them to me.. very cheaply, with at least 50% off

Just some rough numbers
