I think this thread is funny. On the first page people are like:
"X would be cool to see"
"I don't know... let's say NONE!"
"It would be neat to see a mob named X maybe"
"Diablo =/= WoW! Diablo is Diablo!"
And so on and so forth.
Personally, I wouldn't want to see TOO much, but it would be neat to see a little reference here and there.
For a weapon I always liked the Krol Blade, even though it's so simple, but for a flashy weapon I would love to a sulfuras-esque mace. And hey, it semi-matches with the whole Hell them, since it is, ya know, the hammer of a fire lord.
I may not be super smart, but I think Hell has fire (I sure hope it does >.<)
And Malminos, you sir, have just made my day, man.

Exactly. All I see are a bunch of fat, angry, weak nerds who try to claim what they do is sophisticated and challenging and what other players do is faceroll and easy. That is the height of hypocrisy.
I really don't care if you think there shouldn't be ties between diablo 3 and other blizzard titles, fact of the matter is even at fundamental levels the game has carried over concepts, skills, etc directly from the warcraft universe. Fan of knives, fury=rage, arcane power, spirit vs holy power, attacks which heal the player (life leech aside) and much much more.
That sir, is a reference worthy of the Diablo franchise
Its amazing how offensive the idea is to some about putting wow stuff in diablo. I'm talking only to the people getting extremely mad about this idea. Who cares? it's something fun and harmless and if you think it will ruin the game, thats like... your opinion man. And yes it goes both ways, but come on... shouldn't be so sensitive about something so small.
Putting WoW stuff in a Diablo game is also someone's opinion. So, what's your point? People aren't flaming nor overreacting imho, they're just posting what they think about the subject.
It actually amazes me that quite a few posters not only would approve this, but consider it to be a good idea. I'd think most would go "YOU CAN STICK WoW UP YOUR...".
Personally, I wouldn't mind, as I probably wouldn't recognize most references (played so little WoW). But if it happens I want a couple Starcraft references/easter eggs too
Tempest of Chaos. Don't care what they name it or what the stats are, just the model looks awesome. Lousy Archimonde didn't drop it the one time my guild killed him and I had the most DKP of anyone who might have bid on it, but it wasn't meant to be.
I get the feeling that this would be the case with at least half of the people saying none.
That's certainly true.
The reaction is understandable - people don't want so many similarities that what they loved in the franchise is lost. The whole reaction to the art style, to the more cartoony graphics, to the broader color palette, the armor looks. They're all related.
So while this has 0 impact on gameplay, lore or graphics/sound, people are still afraid of all those previous changes and any sort of WoW-related suggestion is usually instantly shut-down.
Which is also why I wouldn't mind any WoW items, or lore/meme references.
Well if you guys have more ideas other than WoW items that you like to be added in game, I made a thread a while back before the series of leaks came out that buried my thread. Anyways, here's the link.
I love all loot fest kind of game! I will be playing all of them for the next few years. Loot fest games I'm looking forward to: LotR: War in the North,Torchlight 2,Borderlands 2 and of course Diablo 3.
There are going to be references and there are already some recognizable (banner symbols anyone?). It doesn't hurt anyone and little bits of flavor like that bring back memories for those that do recognize those references. Pick up your items, use/sell/salvage them, do your quests, read your flavor text, and move on ffs.
Edit: For those that don't play WoW/SC2 you wont even get those references if they smacked you in the face.
I'm sorry to break it to you guys, there will be items that will reference WoW. First of all, if they have some tens of thousands of items... it's really going to be hard for them to avoid some of them using wow names. Secondly, Blizzard is a huge fan of the 'Blizzard community' for obvious reasons, you don't build a community by segregation. Having some items, npcs, monsters, etc. that have some vague wow reference is not going to change the game in any significant way - it will just add little things for people from the 'Blizzard community' to see and go 'oh cool I recognize that!' which will make it that much more fun for them. For those of you who DON'T know Warcraft lore or don't follow the Warcraft universe, these things will just be more loot, monsters, or random npcs to you.
Edit: and something I'd like to see is grey itmes that form a 'twill' set
Twill is a very logical material to exist in any low-tech world since it is easily weavable on a standard loom and made from natural sources... so it would fit and it would be hilarious to see a twill set in diablo
People took this topic way too seriously. I don't think the OP was implying that Frostmourne should be an item in Diablo. I think the intent was to just have a couple fun little easter egg references to some of Blizzard's other franchises. His examples in WoW were just that.. Wirt's 3rd Leg? It's just a little joke meant for a chuckle. Diablo 3 would do fine with a couple of these clever names for some people would crack a smile at.
It does the game no harm.
I do think the more obscure reference though, the better.
Blizzard has ALWAYS put Easter egg's in all their games and WILLALWAYS continue to do so. Diablo 3 won't be excluded and I, for one, am looking forward to the funny chuckles me and my budds will get when we come across them
Hmm ones that would really stand out to those who do or did play wow would be Gamon or Hogger for mobs. That would stand out, be noticeable, and give us a chuckle or two imo

EDIT: F that, you can even put a Horde symbol on your Diablo banner.
Crossing the line right there. Very disappoint.
"He made me do it. He...He put that thing on me. Then he made me wear it. Then he...Told me to &^%$ her. And I did. I *&^%ed her! Oh, god. Oh, god..."
