First off, I would like to say this is my first thread in these particular forums (third post, I'm a lurker) so bear with me if this topic has been addressed.
My question is:
How do you think Magic Find will function in Diablo III, pertaining to the idea of separate loot? Do you think it will be like Diablo II, where only the last-hitter's Magic Find is calculated? Do you think it will be a cumulative pool of Magic Find wealth, with diminishing returns? And would it apply to each character in the party, or would it only apply to the loot dropped for the bearer of the Magic Find gear?
Being an adamant MFer in D2, I would like to see a significant change in mechanics when dealing with parties. If you happen to have the most Magic Find in your group of friends on D2, you must get the last hit on a boss, and that can be frustrating when 4 mercenaries are wailing away. There is a lot of room for innovation in Diablo III for this particular trait, with the addition of separate loot, and I hope Blizzard runs with it.
Considering items are going to drop separately for each player, I don't see how magic find could affect the whole party. I believe it's going to be an individual stat, affecting only your drops.
Also, I think by now they will have adressed the D2 problem, where MF would only work if you landed the last hit on a boss/enemy.
I was never a big fan of Magic Find to be honest. It was such a strange feature. You could never knew if those 10-25% early MF stats that you got were actually affecting the loot being dropped. I felt like more rares were dropping, but they were also kind of useless, and Sets and Uniques weren't dropping.
At the end of the day, even with massive magic finding, you could still have to fight a boss 100 times and never get that Unique shield that only he dropped =/ it's a stat I wouldn't care if they got rid off completely (not that I want it, I just wouldn't mind).

The privatized drops is something that I am not exactly clear on.
If another player in a game kills a monster without me attacking that monster at all, is it still possible that that monster could drop something for me?
MF will be applied to each individual's MF and their loot drop. If I have high MF then it will increase my loot drops and mine alone. It won't matter who gets the kill since loot drops for each individual player.
@Shmark - Yes, as long as you are within the vicinity of the monster, it will drop loot for you as well.

As of now, it's a bit vague. Here's a quote that resembles your questions:
It's not yet clear how D3 will prevent MF leeching: what's to stop a character from wearing nothing but MF gear and tagging along, safely behind the action? Since all characters within some close proximity to the kill get their own, unstealable drops in D3, an MF leech wouldn't even need to risk diving into the fray to grab item drops.
To address this, some players have suggested that MF only be calculated for the players who deals the most damage, makes the kill, or deals some significant % of damage. Blizzard has not yet shared their design theory on this matter.
So, as of now, it seems as though there is not enough information to know exactly how MF will work in Diablo 3.
Also, Blizzard has stated that stacking MF gear (as in Diablo 2) is not going to be viable anymore. Stacking MF will cause you to lose other valuable stats (damage, hp, crit, for example), which will make it significantly more difficult to kill anything. It will be interesting to see how they end up integrating MF into Diablo 3.

Stacking MF will still be viable, but it comes now with a more of a cost to other things than it did in D2. Blizzard has said that MF'ing will still be a part of end game. In fact, Bashiok said that when leveling you might go with +gold find gear but then switch to Mf once you have leveled.

So are items always going to be dropped to class specific? So if a barb kills a monster it wont drop an orb or a wand or a bow? It will only drop barb specific items like swords, sheilds, helms, ex? How about if you are in a team game and someone on your team kills a monster, will it drop items for you even if they are a different class?
I can't see Blizzard doing that because it takes away the whole feel of what Diablo is and dropping random items no matter who kills the monster. Then you would have to make a character in each class to get items. Not everyone is going to have a load of friends to play online with so you can trade items. Those people are going to have the hardest time playing; like me because my friends don't play games like this.
If it is character specific than that is the dumbest thing I'v heard. If I'm jumping to comclusions, then my bad.
