In fact, Diablo 1 and 2 are the only computer games I have ever considered myself a fan of. Other games I never played more than a week...whereas I played Diablo 1 and 2 for many years each.
Today is Blizzcon and I should be more pumped than ever about Diablo 3. However, the more information about the game I learn, I must confess that I only grow more disappointed. This doesn't sound like a game that respects what we have come to love about the Diablo franchise, and I think I'm going to stop spending my time on the forums giving feedback and suggestions.
Unless you bought Diablo 2 multiple times just for yourself, you are no more valuable a fan than I am. I played Diablo 1 and 2 for very long periods of time. It's funny when people try to give extra weight to their own arguments by pointing out how much of a fan they are.

My reasons for having lost interest are the following:
1) Poor graphics. As a digital artist who specializes in both 2D digital painting and 3D modeling, I have a keen eye for graphics. I do not appreciate the low contrast outdoor scenes, the low poly geometry, the excessive use of bright colors, the cartoony look, nor the lack of normal bump maps. I do not feel that the dungeons look dark or gloomy at all. It all looks incredibly cheesy and I can't believe they are using such out-dated low poly models. Come on. This is Blizzard, can't you hire some artists that are AT LEAST industry-PAR? This looks like the graphics from 5 years ago. It looks like WoW graphics.
Bleeding edge graphics are annoying and memory-consuming. I want this game to run without having to buy a brand new machine. From Blizzard's point of view, it's more important that more people enjoy the game than one "lifelong fan" approve. Sorry, but you "lifelong fans" are bad for business, especially when you do stuff like this.

2) The inventory system has been demolished. One of the main reasons I loved Diablo was that it used the novel puzzle-style inventory. I thought this was obsolutely genious. It allowed the player to reorganize their backpack in a way that felt like I was actually reorganizing a backpack. That was fun. It also made big items feel bigger and more important than small items. It looks like a WoW inventory.
The tetris inventory was fun for all of 5 minutes. It was smart for Blizzard to upgrade the inventory into something that is far more efficient. If you want your grid system back, I recommend you go grab a copy of Hellgate: London. It was made by the Diablo 2 guys.
Quote from "mahamoti" »
3) I do not like the automatic distribution of attribute points. This is incredibly lame.
Go play Diablo 2. Problem solved.
Quote from "mahamoti" »
4) I do not like the new skill point assignment system. It forces players to put many skill points into low-level skills before unlocking high level skills. It also has very few options about specific damage dealing moves, which are gained at low levels and simply buffed up throughout. I don't want to be using the same skill at level 90 that someone uses at level 1, and I don't want my only specialization options to be which buffs I choose to put on my lightning bolt, or whatever. I hear this is like WoW.
It's a much better system than Diablo 2's current offering. I'd rather that characters be forced to diversify than dump all points in Magic Hammer, Lightning Trap, etc.
Quote from "mahamoti" »
5) I do not like the allowance for respeccing. It like to plan out a character and have to make good decisions that I will be penalized for later on. If I make a mistake, then that's just replayability. NO amount of respeccing comes without detriment to the games replayability. I think this is like WoW too.
It is incredibly frustrating wasting a whole character getting far into the game only to realize I made a dozen poor choices simply because I didn't know what to expect. Period respeccing is plenty fair and somewhat discourages making a new character just to have him/her rushed to level 90 anyway. Besides, respeccing only repairs a few mistakes. It won't stop me from making other characters strictly for the sake of having a different kind of build. Being forced to start over to move a few points around is no replayability; it's obnoxious.

These are my major complaints, and I hope that someone reads them and takes note. I am sure I am not the only hardcore lifelong blizzard fan who feels betrayed by Blizzard now. They clearly consider themselves the cat's meow, but I just hope they aren't so cocky that they have to wait until they see they are not getting the kind of sales they expected to realize that all their butchery to what made Diablo great comes at a cost.
LOL! I'm sure sales will suffer so much because your purchase apparently accounts for 40% of the total...? Honestly, get over yourself. You are entitled your opinion; I have no beef with you disliking Diablo 3, but to extend your opinion to a prophecy of the game's failure is incredibly narcissistic.

Blizzard owns the franchise. Maybe you should respect the franchise. Be open to some change, eh?
These whining posts about changes are just boring. Stop whining and play your so loved D2 or 1. Most of these posts whine about gameplay and how they change it for D3, so when the graphics really doesn't matter so much, you can easily stay playing D2.

-That's what you don't realize. Blizzard are caring more for money, than pleasing life long fans. Pleasing a life long fan should be way more important than pleasing some retarded 11 year old that just wants to click away at a game.
-New machine? 200$ chipped in for a new card are hardly a lot. Start saving up.
-Tetris inventory is very fair and efficient, and very realistic, what the hell?
-What is it to you if I want to put all my skill points in one skill? It's my build, not yours..I won't be forcing you to a specific build, and neither should you. This is a VERY ridiculous concept that a lot of you guys keep brining up.
-Respeccing is ludicrous, since you can't unlearn something. It's also ridiculous because a player would keep respeccing to do different things, and pass the game with ease, or playing PvP with ease. It has a penalty? Players will turn finding what you need to respec, into something as idiotic as rushes to level 90. Same problem, different thing.
-Stop saying go play Diablo II..we want a Diablo III that's all new, yet just as great.

Tetris Inventory is obsolete by fact...not by opinion. Wake the hell up. If you want to make an argument- do so with a brain and not your ass please. Carpel Tunnel in the D2 community probably popped up from all the tetris inventory shit...you on the other hand might've developed it by jerking off to the tetris system...
Respeccing does not make the game easier. On what basis do you want to argue that? Respeccs are just a way to explore different directions in your character without having to remake one from the ground up everytime you want to try something new. It's like saying you prefer a horse driven carriage to a car when making an inter-city trip...
Blizzard has never been about breaking ground in in-game graphics systems. Their engines have always existed in the fine line between quality and capability of running on lower-end systems so that everyone can enjoy their games. That's why they're blizzard and if you really were a long-time fan- you'd appreciate that fact at least.
Blizzard has the right to attract a larger fan base. They are far from the sell-out companys that develop games en masse these days. Want them to suck your cock because you think you're a life-long fan that deserves committment? Go pay EA games your 200 dollars, I'm sure they can work a deal out for you.
Serious LOL at the OP for this...you speak like you own the damn franchise. Wake up buddy! Dream time is over...It's Blizzard's not yours- give THEM some due respect instead of talking down to em.
I would buy the game even if it went P2P, there's no other game like Diablo and there's no other company like Blizzard. Find a company that has straight game of the years from each game release, even the makers of GTA(rockstar) didn't even get half the awards gotten by Blizzard.
You haven't even played the game, you have only seen SCREENSHOTS & VIDEOS. Watching doesn't make you right and it doesn't mean everyone has the same vision as you do. Watching and Playing is very different, you already assume its going to suck or its going down, because "YOU" think its sucking. You are not one of the devs nor a person that has good reputation. You don't like the new things blizzard has added, Respecing, Auto Attributes, You even think the graphics is poor ? it feels like your kicking a dead horse here.
Yet you already given complaints and whining to a game you never played, which makes any of your complains and whining 0% worth reading. The same thing has happened before D2 got released back in the good old days, he made the same post as you.. saying he was a very loyal fan and has lost interest in diablo after seeing the screenshots and videos of d2 from websites, didn't like the new features. And look what happened ? he's still playing Diablo II even thou he whined and complained like you do..
It feels like your one of the those people who need "attention" for making posts like this and end up just playing the game.
People who buy diablo or any blizzard game doesn't really care about the money(p2p) and has complete trust in blizzard they are the real True Fans.
Mostly on "RESPECT THE FRANCHISE" part. It's great that all these "new features and improvements" are in Diablo3, but most of it is straight from blizzards Warcraft franchise, not Diablo. Which saddens me. Graphics, Visual style, UI, skill systems.
It's not evolution of Diablo series, it's mating Warcraft with Diablo.
Now port it to console for extra awesomeness.
Seeing your hard erection and spraying cum on walls talking about Diablo 3 I assume you've played it and your opinion is right and worth reading 110%
True Sheep.
Honestly. Don't buy the game. Show your anger. Teach Blizzard a lesson.

Diablo 3 looks fine. I'll be glad to not have people like you cluttering up Battle.net. Why are you even on these forums?
Your signature seems to confirm what the others before have stated here Fuzz. You're latching onto a few screens and claiming- OH LOOK ITS WOW invading DIABLO.
Have you even bothered to pay attention to the gameplay videos to see the game in motion? It looks absolutely nothing like wow.
Moreover, Blizzard has improved every game based on the things it learns from its previous release. WoW is a product of years of experience with Diablo and Diablo II- especially through Battle.net. Whether or not you like it- that process continues and will continue with the new games they develop- inclusive of Starcraft II and Diablo III.
People used to say this ages ago when heroes were introduced into Warcraft III- OH LOOK ITS DIABLO + WARCRAFT- inventories and heroes! WTF! The game turned out to be a hit from all perspectives.
Learn to look at the bigger picture please- then perhaps you'll understand that we're not making be-all-and-end-all judgements like you are- but instead showing support and constructively criticising where necessary.

Diablo 2 is my favorite game of all time and Diablo 1 is a close second... I did spend playing WoW and I honestly don't think that you have ever played it.
You do realize that WoW is far more challenging than either of the Diablo games, correct? In fact Diablo 2 was actually a very easy game, the only thing that made it remotely challenging was hardcore, which I have played as long as I can remember.
When you say things like I quoted... It just makes people think you have no idea what you are talking about.

You're not alone Phrayed. Captain Knowledgeable here must've seen someone play WoW for 5 minutes or played the game for 5 minutes himself and then deemed it unworthy.
You are right indeed- wow takes alot of skill, communication and coordination to master. Anyone who thinks otherwise has clearly not explored the end-game aspects of the game.

Wrong. I've played in an AQ40 guild pre-expansion and we were just starting SSC when I finally decided to quit. See this thread:
You two (and the playerbase at large) have no idea how to play WoW properly, which is the reason I could excel despite serious time constraints in that game in the first place.

WoW is undeniably repetitive. "Bring me 15 raptor heads for X experience." "Bring me the horn of X for X gold.
That being said, it has many great aspects. Billions of dollars have been made, regardless of the negativity most Diablo fans portray.
I myself played it for a few months. Leveling was too boring/tedious after my first 70.
All I can say is that Blizzard always seems to find a way to create games that are enjoyable and addicting.
I mean, I played D2 for over 5 years. There is no way that they could produce a game that would be less enjoyalbe after 7 years of planning. Trust them, please. I doubt you'll be too disappointed after a few days of actual gameplay.
If you have too many complaints, simply keep out of the community until you actually decide to give it a chance. I can almost guarantee that all the negative nancys will still muster up the cash to buy the game.
You two (and the playerbase at large) have no idea how to play WoW properly, which is the reason I could excel despite serious time constraints in that game in the first place.
So you died more in Diablo 2 than you did in WoW?
You must have been really, really bad at Diablo 2 man.
You must have been really, really bad at Diablo 2 man.
No. I'm saying success in WoW (quantified as raid viability) is based on time input and rudimentary knowledge of its simplistic game mechanics, while success in D2 (which I quantify as PvP effectiveness, in my case BvB) was based on comparatively little time input combined with a much more serious mastery of its more robust game mechanics.

Yes, you have to spend more time on WoW to become more powerful in the game... It is an MMO and Diablo was created to be a single player game.
To PvP in Wow you generally needed to use a wide variety of skills and react with things such as silence, kick, etc. to what your opponent was doing...
In Diablo you generally used two skills... Teleport (Either by wearing a piece of gear or playing a sorc) and whatever you were attacking with, in both PvP and PvE.
Once again, I love the Diablo series a ton more than I ever did with WoW... I have played Diablo 2 for about 6-7 years while I played WoW for about a year and a half and got sick of raiding... But I don't understand how you are trying to justify that a game where you cast the same spell over and over is more complicated than a game where you have to use several spells to properly use your character.
Just like fighting 'bosses' or going through areas in both games. In Diablo you get good gear and then you can teleport down to a boss, stand there and tank it while you attack it and it dies. In WoW you have to operate as a 40 (or I hear nows a days 25) person group to accomplish a goal. Yes in WoW you pretty much press the same buttons in a sequence and everything is laid out in the fights, but it is still far more difficult than teleporting down to Mephisto or Baal in hell and killing him... Just like PvP is a much more indepth system in WoW than it was in the Diablo series thus far.

You two (and the playerbase at large) have no idea how to play WoW properly, which is the reason I could excel despite serious time constraints in that game in the first place.

So you died more in Diablo 2 than you did in WoW?
You must have been really, really bad at Diablo 2 man.
