It is very unlikely that Diablo 3 will fail because fans will go out and buy it anyway and any aspects of the game that they don't like, they'd get used to it.
It doesn't matter if people will rush to buy it, it only matters if the game will continue to be played a few years after, like Diablo II, 50,000 people are playing that right now... That's amazing for an eight year old game.
I actually enjoyed TQ the first time I played through it. I didn't care if it didn't have blood, at least it was refreshing. There were a lot of problems with the game, but the physics and the combat wasn't bad if you got your character up to higher levels the combat was actually pretty fun, and the skills were definitely nothing like wow, some had cool downs but most did not, and there were a lot of passive skills that were fun to use as well.
Replayablity for the game was absolutly aweful because there was no monitored or closed on-line multiplayer, the levels never changed, and the quests were always the same, so it bacame repetivive quickly.
The fact that you relate the lack of bleeding corpses to being like a "barbie game" completly nullifies you entire post because it makes me wonder how objective you are when considering what makes a game fun. That's almost like saying, "Mortal Combat pwns Street fighter cause of the bloody fatalities." You catch my drift?
I never thought Titan Quest was going for any sort of realism.. the same goes for Diablo. I never played Diablo for realism, I played it because its and interesting world, with lots of monsters to slay, and was extremely entertaining.
I guess what it always comes down to is what people look for in games really depends on the person. A company could put out the greatest product ever made both artistcly and techniclly and people would still not play it because aspects of the game would not appeal to them.
Perception is eveything with games, if someone does not perceive a game to be fun based on their idea of what makes a perticular game fun, then that game will not be fun probably 80% of the time for that person no matter what.
Nox (a much better game than DII if you ask me), Alien Shooter, Allods, Kult: Heretic Kingdoms, Blood Magic, and I remember a ton of old console games, I am pretty sure they are still making those. There are more but I didn't play most of them.
Not all of them are purely dungeon, but neither is Diablo II.
Nox was pretty good, not better than Diablo 2 though. Once I beat it I never picked it up again. Didn't have random loot or anything that made D2 so popular. The PVP was awesome though, a lot more skill based.

strange apothecary souls have turned it into an ill-tasting drop of poison that makes the whole of life repulsive." -Nietzsche

How's it not better than Diablo?

Beating DII once for me was agony. I never done so again. It's_just_so_damn_boring.

It's what made it so repetative and tasteless. But considering most people have simple brains, it's not surprising it got popular. Main reason Nox did not get popular enough through its PvP area is due to the death of its developing company and complete loss of any form of support. Diablo II was patched many times. Nox was patched once or twice. People still play it.

Yes,m and much more balanced. Not to mention that Nox was actually intended for PvP. Anyone can play it, not just some people who play one game all day, get 99 level chars, and go for loot, which is exactly the same as WoW.
Nox uses the save-load system, so it can't have HC mode. Besides, let's keep Diablo quirks to Diablo and keep them out of the other games. The reason Nox is worth respect is because it's not a Diablo clone. Unlike Sacred. What a failure that game was.
D2 LoD is extremely far from perfect. If you don't see its imperfections you are a total fanatic. It's disbalanced, underworked, repetetative, and unoriginal. All concepts are stolen. >> First time I played DII I thought I was playing heXen II because the area sequences of the Acts were the same.
If Diablo 3 fails they probably go for a better version of WoW with real life Fighting system and with better graphics. Anyways.. i think They wil do it even if D III dosent Fail because WoW is getting theire Behind kicked by AOC and GW2.
