Question: Why did the effect on the weapon keep changing like that?
I coded something in the server so it would send the character with the weapon. I applied the effect myself with some client-side memory modification after. I were switching characters so the model would update.
Yeah, I couldn't help thinking about the way these looked like WoW. The lot of them. They're still awesome though. The design team is completely different under Diablo 3 than it is for WoW, correct?

There are a few members of the Dev team which also worked on WoW and SC2. If you compare the effects side by side to the WoW effects you notice the differences.
I personally love the effects, they look a tab messy from the menu camera, but they look truly awesome from game cam as we've seen so far with the effects that are in the beta. I'd bet these effects are scaled accordingly with higher class items, in other words I bet better items are more glow-y lol.

Because the menu camera is a zoomed in game view correct? Cant wait for glowy perrrrreeettty items in game .
The player models are made to be viewed from game cam first and foremost. So when you zoom on them you start to notice the details blur and textures stretch. they simply don't have enough ploy count to look good too close.
Although I guess good means something different for everyone

I actually don't like this very much... it makes the sword look too cartoony imo. It love the art style of D3 but this actually makes the weapons feel kind of lame and not very diablo.

Very nice vid
Love seeing that the weapon particle effects are actually varied and very dynamic.
Everything from the world of Sanctuary

They're spot on as far as I'm concerned.
