In Diablo 2, remember when you opened the secret portal for the first time, went into it, and got obliterated by a hundred cows? You had just beat the game and were feeling pretty good, and you got creamed by hell bovines.
Do you remember finally being able to kill cows, and being super careful not to pull too many at a time? You would inch your way across the open map, not knowing how many were going to hall ass toward you next.
Do you also remember the awesome feeling of mowing down dozens after dozens of cows while avoiding killing the cow king, then going back when most were dead to claim your loot? Remember doing it a hundred times in a row, then doing some baal and big D runs, only to come back to cows again?
Being perfectly honest, I bought Diablo 3 vanilla knowing that Blizzard would have to somehow incorporate the D2 secret cow level into the new game. I could not wait to get back to mowing down cows for hours, getting rad loot, and all that.
So let me start by saying that I didn't expect that Blizzard would copy and paste the secret cow level from D2 into D3 just to satisfy me. I get that they're too separate games, and that they probably should tweak it to be something newer, like Diablo 3 is to the franchise.
I absolutely hated the pony level, but not because it wasn't exactly the secret cow level; I hated it because it was tiny, yielded very little rewards, and was altogether lackluster of a place. There was no reason to farm the level when you were tired of farming the main game.
Fast forward to now, when Blizzard implements a new cow level into nephalem rifts. I think it's a rad idea to tuck it into rifts, as entering the cow level is an awesome, much desired surprise level.
I'm surprised to see them in a small level, though, with maybe 6-10 cows per pack (assuming the cows only spawn in the level I saw). I would much rather see cows being spawned in much bigger levels, like the large outdoor areas in act 1. Fill the level with cows, and add maybe one or two random cow events to make it fit in with Diablo 3. Double the Hell Bovines' speed, too. And how about adding several legendaries that only drop within the secret cow level, just to excite players a little more at the opportunity to possible loot one of them. Let the stage be a true tribute to hardcore Diablo fans that have kept with the franchise through thick and, most recently, thin.
What do you all think about my ideas?
Are you a little unenthused once you get past the initial stoke of finally seeing cows in D3?
What are some suggestions for making the cow level better?
I was honestly surprised they managed to screw up the first cow level (Whimsy shire) so totally despite having a clear blueprint from d2. Only Jay Wilson could be THAT incompetent. This new variation looks promising and, finally, fun.

I'd like to point out that people used Whimsyshire for quite a bit of farming at one point in the game. It was definitely a premier farming spot before they nerfed MF on chests/breakables. In fact, it was so good that it was probably one of the biggest reasons they had to nerf MF for chests and breakables. People would clear out Whimsyshire, put on their MF gear, and then open all the pots of gold, etc.
I'm not sayinig Whimsyshire is good, bad, or indifferent. However, I definitely think it's worth pointing out in a "critique" that it used to be one of the absolute best places to farm in the game.

This must have been before I quit playing D3. I remember reading patch notes about MF and chests.
Anyway, I am referring to item drops from slaying ponies. The only reason to visit Whimsyshire now is to experience a radical change of scenery and maybe, if you have the right sense of humor, a chuckle or two. It could be so much better.
It wasn't really part of the main game.. giant cows walking with 2 feet wtf?
It was fun doing it once per difficulty.
All in all it was too easy exp.. and everyone went there. I tried to do actual areas and keep away from there.
The problem became only in LOD expansion when group exp bonus was introduced and the game became much easier in general too. First there was those Bloody runs which after couple months became cow runs. Only after 1.10 when they significantly boosted their HP and brought down the exp people quit doing it.

It'd be great to get some more attention and posts in the thread to get some blue clarification.
