Build Guide
This build is all support and control. You massively debuff and crowd control the enemy and buff your team. The build mechanics include
Team Buffs
- 15% increased Attack Speed (Big Bad Voodoo)
- 15% increased Movement Speed (Big Bad Voodoo)
- 5%xN life per second (Big Bad Voodoo where N is the number of Voodoos affecting the player)
- 20% damage reduction (Big Bad Voodoo)
- 85% Damage increase (Via Oculus)
Enemy Debuffs
- 25% damage output reduction (Bad Medicine )
- 25% damage output reduction (Cloud of Insects Rune)
- 10% damage output reduction (Gem of Efficacious Toxin)
- 10% increased damage received from all sources (Gem of Efficacious Toxin )
- 15% increased damage recieved from all sources (Parnha)
- 30% increased damage recieved (Strongarm)
Crowd Control
- Halcyon's Ascent
Best Aspects
The Crowd Control induced by Ascent and the stacking healing effects are easily the best parts about this build. There is no limit to the crowd control effects and no cool down (unlike stuns and freezes) for triggering it again. even with a poor power roll on Halcyon's Ascent you'll be dropping Voodoos fast enough to effectively freeze all enemies around you indefinitely and keep your allies health full well into the upper echelons of greater rifts.
Drawbacks
This build cannot solo. It is specifically meant to be run with a group. Survivability can be tough to contend with on this build as it takes a minute to gain all of your survival stacks (23 total fetishes). Once full stacks are obtained and you are dropping voodoos at an alarming rate survivability doesn't seem to be too much of a problem. Of course if you die all voodoos and effects you've applied go away and you have to start from scratch rebuilding your stacks so make sure you are paying attention to your health and surroundings. Your death will definitely be felt by your team.
Play
Upon entering a Grift make sure you summon all your pets. This will start the build off by giving you a good amount of survivablity via all your passives and set pieces. You'll want to find the closest group of anything and drop a voodoo to hold them in place, then begin hitting the group with spirit barrage until you have 15 extra fetishes. This all serves to max out your survivability and give you maximum cool down to voodoo (the more fetishes you have hitting enemies the faster that cool down goes). Your objective once you're all charged up and ready to go is to move around groups of enemies dropping voodoo as quickly as possible freezing them in place with Halcyon's Ascent and ensuring your team is as buffed as possible make sure you also tag enemies with a quick locust spray and let it spread to stack all your debuffs (cloud of insects, bad medicine, toxin gem) . Use your Paranha to further boost the damage your enemies take and group them for your team. You can also switch Piranhado with Mutilation wave to allow you to cast it more often if you choose. I prefer the grouping effects and to save it for elites. When you run into an elite pack move to the center of them and begin repeatedly dropping Voodoos effectively freezing them in place until your team can clean them up. Rinse and repeat. Make sure you are re-summoning fetishes via spirit barrage as their 60 second timer falls off.
The assumption that Voodoos Ghost trance healing effects stack is based on observation only. I know it's been stated that the other effects do not stack but in playing and watching it really does appear that the healing effects are stacking as when I have multiple out it appears that I heal significantly faster. Either way the effects of the entire build have proven themselves invaluable.
Updated to remove Gargantuan and replace with Piranha which frees up a ring slot (no longer using Short Mans Finger) and adds another debuff / crowd control spell to your arsenal in Piranha
Updated again. Removed soul harvest and Lakumba and replaced with Locust Swarm Cloud of Insects as the damage reduction difference is only 5% and the damage reduction offered by Locust Swarm applies to the team further helping with their survivability and to ensure that that damage reduction isn't lost once it's applied I switched jungle fortitude out for creeping death which helps since the build leverages both locust and piranha. The bracers may be replaced with any legendary deemed useful, I chose nemesis to help progress rifts faster for my team.
Updated again. Removed zuni pox and tasker and theo from main build. Moved tasker and theo to cube. Replace tasker and theo with zuni gloves. Replace pox with Oculus. Replaced countess necklace with Desire. Overall added another 120% dmg buff to team with these changes while loosing a bit of survivability.
UPDATED AGAIN! Desire procs very poorly and cannot be proc'd by followers. Therefore I've done some moving around of items to get the Strongarm bracers in there, keep the power of aquila cuirass and give you improved mobility via illusory. As an added bonus in the change we've freed up the shoulder slot which I imagine pauldrens will fill nicely with its survival bonus. the overall affect is %30 increased damage for the team and better mobility to get to your teamates and not get trapped in corridors.
OK final change made. After pushing into much higher Grifts which begin to expose cracks and weaknesses in the build I believe I've settled on this one as the most effective. My fetishes were dying often forcing me to re-summon using spirit barrage too often and make aquila cuiras up-time less than desirable. I realized I could still get the 4pc bonus from both sets using the off standard set pieces from Zuni (ring and offhand), allowing me to keep all the buffs and debuffs I had, by getting rid of wormwood and moving the serpent into that cube position and manually casting Locust. But since we no longer need to keep our mana maxed there is nothing lost in making the move and now we get a constant 60% damage reduction from helltooth instead of an intermittent damage reduction from aquila and we get to keep the powers of all the other support pieces we had in place. (the biggest reason for originally dropping the helltooth was for the illusory boots bonus without giving up uhkapian but now best of both worlds )
Freaking great build. Completely immobilized the enemy.
I have honestly never heard of support WD build until I came across this... and with S16 RoRG buff, this build could easily go far! Any suggestions on what to replace RoRG with? I currently use Obsidian Ring of the Zodiac in the cube. Thanks!
Currently running this Voodoo build but im also using Soul Harvest with Sacred Harvest and LO bracers, then Pirahna (Wave of Mutilation) and cubed strongarm bracers. Also using 4 piece set of Helltooth and Zunni so my toughness regularly hits between 2 billion and up to 5 billion depends on who im grouped with. Oh and using Aquila Curiss, this is nice cuz i also use haunt as a cheap way to proc gems/skills
Oh man after I thought dfans was dead I havent checked on this build in a minute. So here's the deal. This build was great but couldnt be used with META because the stun lock from halcyon would break land of the dead for Necro (LoD couldn't freeze dancing enemies) causing massive damage fall off. Well guess what? S19, Necro isn't META anymore! Playing this with a justice monk now and absolutely destroying things. At GR101 and neither of our pieces are very good. (I dont have a single level 25 gem yet) Very cool!
Marking this build as dead :(. The witch doctor buffs and debuffs are down right amazing. UNFORTUNATELY Diablo 3 is built like a turd on wheels and lags like a mother f***r if there are more than 20 mobs on screen. WD exacerbates this by an extreme degree with the number of ground effects he places which make this build unplayable beyond like 110.
