Build Guide
This build is pretty flexible in what passives and runes you run, but in my opinion this setup is the best combination of damage/survivability for HC with the gear setup I'm using. I like Fists of Thunder - Quickening because this is a physical oriented build and it provides a gap closer and good spirit generation. The mantra rune can be either armor or resist all depending on what you're lacking, or you can use Wind Through the Reeds for speed runs.
Dashing strike and cyclone strike are both preference on runes, but I like the added MS and range since this build is mostly about getting into the thick of it and grouping up mobs quickly to AoE them down. If you use Kyoshiro's then Blade Storm is required, but otherwise you can feel free to swap that rune as well. It should be no surprise to anyone to see serenity with ascension in a HC build so I'm not even going to discuss that further.
For passives I think these have the most synergy but again you can swap a couple of them if you want. I think Unity and NDE are really the required ones, Unity because it's permanent 20% damage with your allies and NDE because it's HC. Momentum I like because you can keep it up all the time and it works on both single target and groups (unlike Determination) and this isn't really a heavy AA build where seize the initiative is that useful. I also like harmony but you can feel free to swap to sixth sense or even another damage passive if you've got enough toughness. If you were running Unity with Traveler's Pledge and Compass Rose on top of 50% from SW I think Harmony is kind of overkill at that point.
The play style of this build is really straight forward:
- get up sweeping wind stacks
- dash into enemies and cyclone strike
- hit mantra and keep punching and hitting cyclone while everything explodes
- use serenity and dash to escape molten/frozen or as an "oh shit" button in case you get in too deep
- repeat
This is a great build because it has reasonable damage, can kite if needed but doesn't typically have to, and it has no problem clearing TX efficiently and seems like it has a pretty reasonable capability for higher GR's. I haven't really had the chance to test the limits because my gear sucks (no ancient weapon, no decent TP/CR, no augments, one trifecta, few ancients, etc) but despite that I have no problem speed farming TX and haven't even broken a sweat through GR 55 while I'm working on my season journey. I expect to have no trouble getting to 70+ but I'm only a little over two weeks into the season and my game time is pretty casual these days. I'll update as I progress though in case I make changes...
