This is a Lighting based build that I worked on shortly after hitting level 70. I would say it is a progressive build. I run T3 comfortably with medium quality gear.

Build Guide

This is for sure a progression build. I am pretty new to Diablo 3 still and was playing barbarians until RoS showed up.

EDIT 12/10/2014: This build does work with a 1hander. Recently obtained a Thunderfury and did a test run with Fervor. Due to the attack speed increase there are 2x as many hammers flying than with a 2hander which is great when fighting large groups. Also the 15% CD reduction + Eberli Charo shield (roughly 50% Heavens Fury CD reduction) = 100% Heavens Fury uptime.

The Brunt of It.

  • So, I use Justice as a main wrath generator - feel free to use something else if wrath is not a problem for you. But it does hit for a lot considering the +dmg% using Blunt.
  • The main damage dealer is Blessed Hammer w/ Thunder struck. The damage of this is ramped up by +Lighting Damage gear (easy to find on necklaces and bracers), I am lucky enough to have +14% damage to this ability on my boots which took about 50 rerolls at the enchanter. And then of course the +20% damage using Blunt. This is a great ability as it only costs 10 wrath, but it is a weird ability and take a bit of time to "rev" it up so to speak.
  • Akarats Champion is great on Elite packs and it will be important to hang on to some cooldown (+55% CD reduction?) reduction gear and Akkahn Set pieces in the future for the 100% Akarat uptime combination.
  • I use the Steed Charge + Endurance, it makes things a lot quicker and can also get you out of bad spots here and there. And who doesn't love a horsey? But, if you do not like this, feel free to use something else.
  • I use Laws of Valor + Critical at the moment, this is really nice for a DPS boost. If you have pretty crappy survivability and find you are a little on the squishy side then go with Law of Hope or Law of Justice to try an mitigate damage.
  • Lastly, I use Heavens Fury + Ascendancy (for the huge damage boost despite it not being Lightning). Given the nature of the Blessed Hammer ability, it is nice to have a good single target move. Heaven Fury is great for that, and it is on a super low CD. The rune is up to you. Or change this out for something totally different like Phalanx (but that'll cost you 30 wrath I believe), Shield Glare, or Taunt maybe.

Passives

  • Mandatory: Heavenly Strength (for the 2-Hander), Blunt for the +20% damage, and Finery is great, unless for some reason you have no gems when starting out, then I'd say it is pretty useless. Refer to EDIT for the 1hander info.
  • Interchangeable: I enjoy having a way out besides smashing on my Health Potion so I use Indestructible for that, it is a great ability that saves me once or twice a run and sometimes I let it kick in for the +35% damage increase which is the icing on the cake. Vigilant is also a nice survival passive and if you are just starting out, it is great for the toughness and healing bonus. Lastly Holy Cause is nice for the damage increase but you really don't get much of the 1% life back as we are doing mostly Lightning Damage, you may get some HP return depending on gems?, weapon?, and Heavens Fury rune.

Gems/Misc.

  • I use the Wreath of Lightning Gem, it is amazing for this build. Use other Legendary gems at your digression. The rank 25 Gem of Efficacious Toxin seems amazing to me. I also use the Mirinae, Teardrop of the Starweaver gem as I might convert this to a holy build in the future.
  • It is a good idea to use Diamonds in the rest of your gear, both for the CD reduction (on helmet, ideally with Leorics Crown if you are lucky to find it) and for the resist all. Reaching I think 850 resist all is a good number to abide by. And of course use an Emerald on the weapon you use.
  • Reapers Wraps are great for the wrath re-gen and it is easy to get because you can craft a few of them up. Try and get +Lightning Damage on these.

A few things you'll notice.

  • Blessed Hammer ability is something to get use to. It takes a bit to rev it up but once the hammers are flying it it really fun to play with.
  • Mobs that like to run suck sometimes because Blessed Hammer kind of just does what it wants. Justice will daze and stun so if something is running or dashing away I'll toss a few hammers, jump on my horse, then burn it down really quick. You could also toy with using Shield Glare or Condemn with Vacuum on this build for a bit more crowd control as well.
Comments or suggestions are great.
