Build Guide
Captain Crimson set
The 2.6.6 PTR brought changes to the Captain Crimson's set as follows:
Captain Crimson's Trimmings
- (2) Set Bonus
- Regenerates 6000 Life per Second
- Reduces cooldown of all skills by10% 20%.
- Now also reduces Resource Costs by 20%
- (3) Set Bonus
- Set bonuses have been replaced
- Damage dealt is increased by your total percentage of Cooldown Reduction
- Damage taken is reduced by your total percentage of Resource Cost Reduction
This build takes advantage of all parts of the set. It foregoes a ring slot and the belt slot to fit it in. This set has great synergy with Multishot Demon Hunter builds because Yang's Recurve has a whopping 50% Resource Cost Reduction built-in. This means that in addition to all of the normal bonuses Captain Crimson's set gives, we get 50% damage reduction on top as well, which pushes it over the top. Demon Hunters also want at least 37.5% Cooldown Reduction to maintain 100% Vengeance uptime, so the CDR synergy is also good.
Basically we are getting at least 60% damage reduction and 37.5% increased damage from the 3-piece Crimson set bonus, which is well worth the belt and ring we are giving up to get it. In addition the 2-piece bonuses are both good: 20% resource cost reduction helps us run Wolf Companion instead of Bat Companion, and the 20% cooldown reduction lets us roll damage elsewhere instead of CDR so we can get back the damage we lost by dropping The Witching Hour belt.
Season 18
The build has additional synergy with the Season 18 buff. In addition to the buffs all builds receive, sets using Captain Crimson's Trimmings get an additional bonus. One of the three types of circles that players will be creating (the blue ones) give 50% sheet resource cost reduction, which amounts to a 50% damage reduction multiplier while wearing Captain Crimson's set. This is not mandatory and won't be up all the time but it's a nice little toughness boost.
Update: This seasonal interaction doesn't appear to work after all. After some testing, the blue RCR rings give sheet RCR but this doesn't affect your toughness as listed in your character sheet. It's unclear if this is a bug or not, there is a similar bug reported on the PTR bug report forums and I'll update this guide if I learn more.
I think it's one of the first builds that popped in everyone's mind after seeing the patch notes lol was wondering if you've tried squirt's necklace for speed runs? An added 100% damage would be cool. Just wonder how bad 50% extra damage taken would be with all the damage reduction in there.
Maybe even gogok of swiftness could be interesting for extra cooldown/damage?
**tried it and calling it right now, crimson set is getting nerfed. With nems on, traveler's pledge compass rose and 71% rcr, i reach 99. some % damage reduction. Never gonna stick lol
Cheers!
