Mike Morhaime showed a cinematic of Diablo 3, now we are getting a gameplay video.
The Barbarian in this video fights over 20 mobs and he dispatches them easily. You can destroy and interact with the environment -- this is physics at work here. You can access the character window similar to World of Warcraft. Weapons can be enchanted. The barbarian is now doing whirlwind to deal with powerful enemies. Some lootable chests have traps ... the example given -- the chest activated a trap where many skeletal casters spawned to attack the barbarian. Deckard cain is talking in-game now in a interesting interface for RPG.
We see now a Witch Doctor class that can summon Mongrels as pets. He can create a wall of zombies to block incoming attacks of mobs from reaching you while you annihilate them. The Witch Doctor is a ranger basicaly casting from afar. The gameplay is about to end but before they want to show us what a real fight is in multiplayer with a witch doctor, a barbarian and a rogue. Holy cow this huge beast with four legs and a huge body that takes haf the screen is fighting the three classes. The beast is named Siegebreaker assault beast. It has a lot of HP but the 3 classes are doing heavy damage to it. It dropped an amulet and gold. The creature just exploded after looting and hundreds of skeletons now fighthing onscreen. Diablo 3 logo seals the gameplay video.

PARIS, France – June 28, 2008 – Blizzard Entertainment, Inc. today revealed Diablo® III, the newest entry in its critically acclaimed action role-playing-game franchise. The announcement was made during the 2008 Blizzard Entertainment® Worldwide Invitational at the Porte de Versailles Convention Centre in Paris, France. A cinematic trailer and an extended gameplay demonstration with commentary from the development team introduced the game to the thousands of players in attendance.
“We’ve wanted to expand on the epic story and gameplay elements of the Diablo universe for some time now,” stated Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. “We know that players have also been long awaiting a return to the series, so we’re very excited to be sharing this announcement with Blizzard gamers here in Paris and around the world today.”
Diablo III will pick up the story twenty years after the events of Diablo II. Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal have been defeated, but the Worldstone, which once shielded the inhabitants of the world of Sanctuary from the forces of both Heaven and Hell, has been destroyed, and evil once again stirs in Tristram. Playing as a hero from one of five distinct character classes, players will acquire powerful items, spells, and abilities as they explore new and familiar areas of Sanctuary and battle hordes of demons to safeguard the world from the horrors that have arisen. The first two characters classes -- the barbarian and the witch doctor -- were shown as part of the announcement at the event today in Paris.
Diablo III will feature a custom 3D-graphics engine to render lush indoor and outdoor areas of Sanctuary with a high level of detail and vivid special effects. The game’s physics-enhanced environments will be interactive and destructible, offering traps and obstacles that create added danger for players and monsters alike. These elements, along with a new quest system and random scripted events, will be integrated into the game’s random-level generator, giving Diablo III the ultimate combination of dynamic gameplay and replayability. Cooperative and competitive play will be available online through an upgraded version of Blizzard Entertainment’s renowned online gaming service, Battle.net®.
Blizzard Entertainment is developing Diablo III for simultaneous release on the Windows® and Macintosh® PC platforms. Further information about the game, including details on the other character classes, major new features for the single-player and multiplayer components, system requirements, pricing, and availability, will be announced as development progresses. It should live for ever.
Um, Witch Doctor Endugu?
yeah he does, but im a barb man. always have been always will be. =)
unless its heaven vs hell - which doesnt seem so much like it in the demo.
My point was that there was a Witch Doctor in the lore.
Yeah, my thoughts exactly. It would be hard to do factions without it being an MMO, which it clearly (and was said not to be) one.
yes i agree hammer spam was annoying at times and i think if they put hammer in then they should not make it so strong like in d2
When asked about it Blizzard said:
When it's ready.
We tend to announce games 1-1.5 years before it is released.
I wonder if the Dark Lord himself hasn't corrupted us all.....
only cause that's when i had to reformat my PC and then my D2 disc died
so i decided to just wait till D3 came out
and now...
patience pays off!!!! chyeaa!!!
I've been wishing for D3, or at least another expansion, since 2001 - not long after LOD was released. I loved Diablo, was mesmerized by D2, and got off on LOD. I had honestly given up hope on ever seeing D3. After all, look at the vast time span.
Now I'm elated. It's like getting laid for the first time in over six years. I am now hoping very hard that my Amazon didn't get lost in the Spider Forest or the Flayer Jungle with this new development. I'm very anxious to see if it is going to be worth these past few years of waiting and hoping. And waiting, and waiting, and waiting...
I really wish D3 would go to paid servers, or at least offer a subscription service. Paid servers are far less cataclysmic than what I experienced on the open servers. I play Everquest as well, and I enjoy the peaceful gameplay without all the hacks and bots that send the servers into resource arrest.
Thank you, Blizzard, very much! You've made an old woman happy!
