A rep from Blizzard just sent me notice that there would be no more announcements at BlizzCon tomorrow (Saturday), so for those of you (ie: all of you) who were hoping that this would be the day that Diablo 3 was finally confirmed, I'm sorry to inform you that you'll have to continue to wait. We all know that it's eventually coming, but the waiting for the official confirmation of the third game along with some idea of what it will be like is a really hard thing to wait for. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but I figured it would be best to tell you about this now rather than have you guys waiting around all day Saturday hoping that we'd hear more about Diablo 3. Thanks for sticking with us though... Blizzard is listening to us and sooner or later (ok, later) Diablo 3 will become a reality.
In other Blizzard-related news, the rep just sent me word that our own Umaro participated in the first-ever Starcraft II tournament with Loc Teinh (from w3roc.com) on his team and won in the first round, but they were unfortunately defeated in round 2 by TeamLiquid. The overall winner of the tournament was TeamLiquid who were then given the opportunity to play Karune and Stephen Chang from the eSports team. TeamLiquid wasn't able to defeat them though. Unfortunately there's no replay video footage from this tournament, but maybe that will change later on.
More news as it becomes available.
Sad Diablo indeed. (thanks to Zabadak for sharing this image with us)
Gay... Dumb... Stupid... Theres only so long people are gonna wait for this game. There gonna loose there target audience if blizzard waits much longer. The kids that grew up with there games D1 and D2 are getting older. I know at least my window of opportunity to play my very much anticipated D3 is getting much smaller, and shit im only 21.
i dont care if your a new member or not your a fuckin idiot.. SC fans have gone a decade and they would still wait if it wasnt coming out.. its the quality of the game and if your here just to shit on something we care about then shut up and piss off
and visucius.. games dont discriminate by age.. EVERYONE should only play in their spare time it isnt what yoru life is supposed to center around.. unfortunatly there are those who play constantly just because they cant handle the real world so they live in the world... of warcraft.. my dad is 46 and right now he is in his room playing command and conquer because he was the free time to do so if games were for kids you wouldnt have games such as Gears of War and Grand Theft Auto which mostly KIDS play..
I still remember the joy when i saw that the characters could run in D2, the excitment when i make my first runeword, the infinity hope to complete my assassin set. The hell literally to kill the ubber diablo. the fight to get the "Annihilus" charm.
If i need to wait i little or much longer(hope little) don't care if the game give so much pleasure as d1 or d2.
I believe games are for kids. When I move out I'm only going to play only in my spare time, but hey, that's like 7 years. (I am 13).
Since your 13 I will not be Sarcastic..
Its amazing, some of the Eliete/Expert gamers in the world make an access of $300,000 a year, with endorsements and sponsers. That is Upper Class....
Youll learn more about this is phosiology. 300 k a year is more than alot business owners make.
I think any person is justified to play games as much as they want as long as they take care of their shit first. And it's good to have a well-balanced range of hobbies besides gaming as well.
For example, there are days where I'll play a single game for several hours straight. That could potentially be a problem if I didn't also work, go to school, hike, swim, read, write, and socialize with my friends. But I still manage to do all those things anyway. So I'm not gonna worry whether I'm too old or too young to be playing games. And besides, people of different ages play for different reasons. So one can't necessarily say a game developer is missing its target audience by waiting to long to release the game. The game will manage to appeal to a new audience as well as stay true to its original audience. At least, I'm confident Blizzard will do that.
But can any one Diablo fan honestly say once D3 is actually released, "Nope. Sorry. It's too late for me. I've missed my window of opportunity to play that game." Even playing casually for one hour a week (which really isn't that much) does not require a major committment of time. I'm sure we'd all like to pretend we're so busy, that we won't be able to play D3 on and off for even a little bit. But c'mon, folks.
And for those who insist they have become too busy in life by the time it's released, well, that's okay too. It just depends on how important a game is to you whether or not you're willing to make the time for it. To each his own in that case.

games are just that, games. football=game. soccer=game. politics=much more complicated but also a game. life=game. why do people choose to do the same to video games? it would be the same as if we said football and soccer were only for kids, adults should all have real jobs.
i hate the misconception that most people have, that just because its on a screen and its much funner to play, its for kids. the adults of today are beginning to embrace it, but its not large enough yet. when the 13-20 year olds of today go into their 30's and 40's, we will see a radical change in the way people see things. games will become much more acceptable, and wont be blamed for retards that decide to go on shootings.
another thing i think we will see is a change in politics. more and more politicians will start to accept and appeal to the gaming community. right now we dont like any politicians because no one supports us. everyone is either against or undecided on gaming, because none of them want to look bad. but imagine if someone came out and supported gaming and tried to pass bills and stuff to get the other tons of lobbyists off the backs of game companies. with WoW alone, they got 9 million supporters. not saying they are all at least 18, but alot are, and so are all the tons of people playing xbox, ps3, and overall pc games.
everyone has his own hobby, some like cars, others like fishing, swimming, sculpting. gardening, sports, reading, working, politics, eating. we decide on gaming. and one day WE will be the ones running the country.
Anyways, yeah gaming is just a hobby, it is also growing all the time the days of games being for nerds with no life are long gone.
Say you come home from work when you're 30 or something, instead of sitting down to chill out watching TV you could play games too, there really is no difference. It's entertainment.
console games as well as pc games. if i have a WoW account and you do too, its much more fun playing in the same room than over the chat or teamspeak. not even WoW, because i used to play Unreal Tournament 2004 with my friends at school during Computer maintenance and repair. we would finish our work as soon as possible and just play over LAN. when someone would come into the class, someone would yell CMOS and everyone would minimize the game. it was probably the funnest class i ever had, Carloseus would always be in the top 3 fraggers. some people would get so pissed off sometimes they would jump up and get angry, but they just made us laugh.

Interesting. Are you referring then mostly to censorship laws and the rating systems? Because that's mainly where politics affects video games. And for the most part, I'm not sure censorship policies has adversely affected the gaming industry too much. You still get to purchase extremely violent video games. Maybe I'm just not concerned about the rating systems because I'm old enough to buy any game. But I would be concerned if content was being cut from games just because a censoring panel didn't understand the context of that conent and decided it was too violent or obscene. I do agree with you also that as time goes on, the lobbyists will include those representing the gaming industry as that industry becomes more prevalent. Just as Hollywood has its representatives as well.
The current trend among video gamers certainly suggests that people of all different ages are getting into games. Consider the Wii. It's target audience is for casual gamers. Its commercials show families and/or older people in the living room enjoying Wii games. They are the kind of games that you can play a lot, but require little commitment. So in other words, while there are more serious games on the Wii intended for serious gamers, the Wii is proof that not only are they making games for a broader audience, but entire console systems as well.

no, the lobbyists are trying to put limits on the game content itself, but since its not regulated by the government, they cant. and also, they dont make money off gaming, almost all the other industries of anything pay lobbyists to do nothing, gaming just makes them jealous and therefore they stand against it.
im also old enough to buy any game, so i dont really care about all that. ratings are nothing to me, in the end my eight year old little brother still likes to play diablo 2 every once in a while, and will probably play diablo 3 when it comes out regardless of its rating, unless its for adults only. oh, and he also enjoys WoW, but i dont want him to get too much into WoW. kids are very impressionable at his age, they develope their first addictions, mine was dbz.
That's true actually. The ESRB is a non-profit organization. But if they're not a government organization, how do they assert the right to get their ratings posted on the packaging of those games?
I miss playing the first Halo on multiplayer just because my brother and friends would all get together with our four Xboxes, link them all together with four tv's and up to six players and just hang out all night, eat and drink beer and play Halo. Good times.

i dont remember, but we had a discussion like this with our english teacher. she was really cool

Yeah like I just came back from a party and there were around 10 people playing timesplitters the whole time, like you said everyone had a great time.I think it's more socialable then a bunch of people watching TV or a movie, you're interacting with eachother the whole time.
its becoming a large trend for people to take their xbox's to work, or from work meet up at someone's place and play online all together. people that work in offices and stuff.

This is exactly what they did to Manhunt 2. The ESRB decided that it was "too mature" and it got the dreaded AO rating. Which means Nintendo won't support it, and lots of retailers, such as Blockbuster and GameFly, won't supply it.
If (and that's the key word) the checks are in place to make sure certain titles don't get in the hands of kids, then it shouldn't matter how gory a game is. They certainly don't do that for movies.
So when does it get to a point where game developers are actually bartering with the ESRB for a rating?
"Okay, we take out the sex scene, but can we get a few decapitations? Okay...5 decapitations, but only one with spurting blood? What about beating a dog?"
What I do think is funny about most rating systems is how much easier it would be for a video game to show a decapitation and get an M rating. But if the video game showed a breast or two, that would get it an AO rating. This is a problem I have with American television. I see the sickest most goriest images all the time and that's okay as long as the show is on during the evening (since apparently no child watches tv beyond 7 p.m.), yet I never get to see Major Kira naked. It's a travesty I tell you.

good god i love you.. people are way too concerned with sex than they are with gore and disgusting images.. think about it.. eventually theyll see sex(unless of course.. world of warcraft.. you know wher eim goin with this..) but some of the stuff they show now WILL scar someone because most people dont have to actually watch someone die.. let alone see them ripped appart.. good god you can find sex online ANYTIME and seriously it doesnt take a 17 year old to figure out "oh i can click the 'I'm 18 Show me the Website' button" and yet you see ALL these gory nastey completely wrong movies coming out with PG 13 ratings in movies but if theres a sex seen it automatically gets an R rating
Its like that episode of South Park.. they buy weapons and end up putting Butter's(character) eye out with a ninja star and in order to try to keep from getting in trouble Cartman(other character) strips down bare ass naked(not gunna explain why) and they see the boy with a ninja star in his eye.. then 5 minutes later they see the boy bare ass naked and instead of freaking out about "Oh my god this child is seriously injured because parents are too stupid to know what their kids are doing" they freak out because "oh my god my little girl was watching and this 9 year old flashed his little milimeter peter!" and its bullshit
im sure i could come up with more b ut i dont wunna run this rant too long(id go on about girls gone wild and male enhancement commercials coming on after 11 but those are all too easy)

And yes, we are all off topic right now. Someone should start a censorship thread.
