Blizzard Confirms New Product Next Month!
"It took a good day of calls and emails, but Blizzard just got back to us about the rumor floating around that Starcraft 2 will be announced next month during their World Wide Invitation in Seoul, South Korea.
According to a Korean website, StarCraft 2 is being developed in 3D with a new race and lots of changes for existing units. The site went on to say that additional details would be revealed during Blizzard's WWI on May 19th in Seoul.
When reached for comment today this was Blizzard's official response:
We do intend to announce a new product at the Worldwide Invitational next month in Korea, and we appreciate the enthusiasm and interest in getting an advance look at what that will be, but players will have to wait until May 19th to find out more. Also, we have a very strong connection with the characters and settings of StarCraft, and we do plan to revisit that universe at some point in the future, but we don't have anything new to announce in that regard at present.
So that's a yes on a StarCraft 2, eventually, and a yes to a product announcement next month. The only question now is are they one in the same. " -Brian Crecente, from Kotaku.
So what do you guys think? A lot of people still believe it's gonna be Starcraft (which would be fine too because, honestly, who wouldn't love to see that game revisited just as much as Diablo?) but after a statement like that, I'm thinking it's gonna either be an announcement for Diablo 3 or a completely new Blizzard title. If it's not a Diablo or Starcraft game, I'm putting my money on TacoCraft.
Alright, let the speculation begin! May 19th simply cannot come soon enough.

All u got are speculations. All you lack are common sense, facts (as in something to "prove" your points), knowledge of marketing and manners. It could be anything. But when the announcement comes, if its not a WoW expansion (which is most likely that its not) make a new thread saying how stupid you are. Being so absolute about something you dont know is stupid enough.
First of all, that is the most conceited remark I have ever heard in my life. Even I don't say shit like that even if I do have proof to back that comment up.
Second, why the fuck would it be WoW. Sure the expansion did sell millions (don't know the exact number) and it was supposed to be big news but seriously an announcement for WoW at a world wide event in Korea would just be washed out. Sure people in Korea would care but, unlike if Blizzard released Starcraft, they would not be exactly thrilled about it.
Third, why are u such an asshole to everyone who doesn't agree with you in the least way. I mean, a forums supposed to be about sharing ideas. That also means accepting them as other people's opinions.
Now to the point that I was going to make, i do think SC2 will come out on the 19th. The reason I think this is because
one: its in Korea
two: 10 yrs since new SC game
three: SC mmo would be retarded.
Why would an mmo be retarded. Well if they made it like WoW (correct me if im wrong, i dont play SC) then it would more than likely be a third person shooter if anything. I mean pvp would be stupid as (SC uses lasers right, i don't know anyway) people could shoot someone about on the other side of the map. Also there would be too many sides. There would be three, four if they added another race.
These are my ideas. You can rip them to shreds. Oh and if Im wrong about the SC concept, please correct me without making any derogitory statements as I'll say again, i dont play Starcraft.
If we were talking about how very ignorant you are, then I could see why you'd say that. But, if you see no reason to speak and defend your stance on the issue at hand, then frolic on home because there is no place for you here. This is a discussion of news and announcements; not a mindless blathering and poop throwing contest.
And Fingolfin is right. You've got nothing but unfounded speculations that give us no reason as to believe why you are right. If you don't care what people think, then don't speak at all, because no one is going to care what you think. But we know you do, because you wouldn't be so desperately trying to throw half-assed insults at me.
Well, I'm happy to tell you that my testicles have indeed descended. And your mom can vouch for that, since they were on her chin last night. And nobody likes you, because nobody agrees with anything you say. But I won't even waste my time outlining why you're an incompetent moron. Being the incompetent moron that you are, my words of wisdom would most likely go in one ear and out the other.
What? Do you even now what emaciated means, or was it the word of the day on your calendar? Wait, you can't read! (oh, duh) I mean, last time I checked, muttonchops wasn't exactly just flesh and bones in his picture. This whole revelation about your illiteracy just explained why you write half-assed insults and threats in a news forum. It also explained why you have no proof to back up any of your speculations, cus you couldn't read them to begin with.
Also, in the picture, Muttonchops is slightly tan.
Those are some good points, and if anything is pressuring Blizzard to continuously shoot out MMO's, it's Vivendi.
Now, he brings up two reasons why it would be a SC MMO.
Reason 1: Creating an MMO shifts the underlying structure and philpsophy of a company, making it less likely for them to leave the MMO genre.
Reason 2: WoW will die, and Blizzard wants to keep their subscribers to give them money, and they would do that through a new MMO.
The second reason holds very true, but not in the present. Contrary to what you might believe from reading the WoW-forums, WoW isn't dying, far from it. It has years to go still, and Blizzard will want to continue to gain alot of money out of it for as small a cost as possible.
If they were to intorduce a new SC MMO on the market, and the could keep WoW players leaving the ship, they could still lose money on the deal. If a player closes one account and opens a new one Blizzard will get the same amount of money, while they will have to host two MMO's. Not to mention the structural difficulties of running two MMO's at the same time.
Of course there's no doubt that a SC MMO would attract different and new people, but I wonder to what extent.
Reason 1 seems much more credible, if it is true. If anyone could add what they know regarding this point I'd appreciate it.
SC as an mmo adding continuous millions but still taking some money away for the server
OR
SC as an rts without pay to play and using battle net, still adding millions to Blizzard
I suppose that the mmo would make the most moeny but as I said before, I think that SC would generally become a third person shooter if they made it like WoW. If what I just said is right about the shooting lasers in Starcraft (i don't know, don't play it) then, they may as well just release Starcraft: ghost as it is also jsut as anticipated.
Although I was hoping for Diablo 3, I'll be happy with any Blizzard game. Also, if you don't bleave me you can check their website www.g4tv.com and go to the AotS homepage and download the video, they store their shows on it.
You play Final Fantasy XI muttonchops? Just seen a guy with your name.
it would be too early to release another mmo. I do see a good chance of having a SC MMO, but not yet. WoW lives, and it does very well. With the new hardcore stuff and the content that today is considered hardcore nerfed (next patch), more "casual" people will get access to loots, new mounts and much more in general. WoW wont be dying for at least a couple more years. Thinking of Blizzard development tactic, it would be right on time to release another MMO if WoW is dying at that time. Announcing it now would still appear too early though, right now everyone's happy with the new content (i'm having really much fun with my warrior now that i finally hit 70), instances, abilities etc. Announcing another mmo would be bad for their current money maker.
What would make more sense to me?
Starcraft 2 now, Starcraft MMO in a year (announced) and in 2-3 years released. Blizzard said they're going to support WoW for at least 5 years after release. 2 years have passed already and WoW is well supported as everyone knows (in matters publicity too - and it succeeded to have around 8 million active subscribers at the moment). I just dont feel its the right timing to announce another one.
OR
It could be that diablo 3 has a better chance of being an mmo. I think I heard a rumor that Blizzard is gonna make all their games into mmos. So if SC becomes an mmo, than that rumor may hold some truth.
I dont know! *throws hands up into air* Ten more days though:D
Well, I did play. But Muttonchops wasn't my character.
I've got my money on it being an SC-related product.
i posted about blizzard denying that rumor...check back maybe 2 pages
but i just realized..
One thing everybody is forgetting, is that with MMO's, most people will only buy one mmo since it costs money to play...
but with an rts...people can play more than 1 game, say you're playing diablo 2, and you get bored so you play counter strike right? [just an example, not implying anything]so if they were able to have more than one choice for the consumer, that would instantly mean profit. If they announced Startcraft 2 and diablo 3 that would be a dream come true for SC fanboys, Diablo fanboys [ME!!!], and Blizzard... if they aren't going to be mmos
competing with your own company doesnt have to be a bad thing
so i doubt there will be another mmo...
i do think that there will be a starcraft 2 announcement, and then in 2-4 months a diablo 3 announcement..
it makes all the sense in the world to me...
tell me what you think.
