I think am good with my processor core2 quad q9300@2.50

    4 gig ram.

My video card is only a nvidea gt 440. I imagine this is going to cause some problems?

do you think with an ati 6850 I would be able to run on high setting at full resolution?

    thx.

I posted this back in November. Have 8 gigs of ram now, rest of system is still the same. Just wondering if the 6850 is the best bet for getting me to run at highest settings. I'm looking for the least expensive way to run at highest quality.

    Thanks.

Some good advice. I am glad to hear you can change your build on the fly - takes a lot of the 'stressing' over a build out of play. I will just play and pick what I think is 'cool'. Just a little over a month to go. Ya!

    Hi all,

    Pretty much a newbie here.

Unlike most of you, I have not played D2. Made my way through Titan's Quest and loved it. This said, I was pretty much winging it - didn't have a good handle on which abilities/etc worked best together, didn't have a good sense where I should be putting my level up points (strength, dexterity, etc) and in what ratios. I am really not sure how well my character was built; probably not very.

I'd like to try avoid this for D3 and have a decent plan upfront. But honestly, while I really enjoy these type of games, I don't seem to have much of a head for how to best build up a character.

My style of play is to insert myself into the middle of a horde of bad guys and swing for the sky. So I'd like a build that can dish out the damage, but also can take a beating with the best of them.

Any suggestions on a character build that can meet this criteria and is newbie friendly.

honestly, I'm not sure that I would see my self playing through the game more than once (if that makes any difference), but you never know.

Also any suggestions on where to put skill points (or whatever they are called) and in what amounts would be appreciated.

What resolution do you run? if you run 1920x1080, then i think you'll be in trouble.

From this review, 440 can barely take on WOW at 1280x1024

As for 6850, I am pretty sure it can max D3, but if you are only getting a videocard to play d3, then I suggest you to wait till when the game is out. There will likely be better choices then, since both Nvidia and AMD are planning to release new videocards in the spring of 2012. If they make it, you can get new videocards, or cheaper older videocards. Sometimes a 2nd hand videocard is not a bad deal for a older computer, and you can save up money for the next new pc instead.

thx. Yes, the vid card upgrade would be mainly for D3. I will wait for sure until it comes out before buying anything. Just want a card that will allow 1920x1080 and not cost a fortune.
